Abstract

This study investigates the influence of solar declination and right ascension on extreme temperature variability in West Sumatra during the 2020–2024 period using a quantitative empirical framework. Monthly climatological observations were integrated with astronomical parameters calculated through high-precision algorithms to construct a harmonically structured time series dataset. The results reveal that solar declination primarily governs the amplitude of seasonal temperature variation, while right ascension regulates temporal synchronization, producing observable phase shifts between astronomical forcing and atmospheric response. Harmonic analysis demonstrates that these relationships extend beyond linear correlations by capturing periodic patterns characterized by amplitude and phase metrics. Furthermore, residual components indicate the presence of external modulators, particularly sea surface temperature anomalies and large-scale climate variability, which alter the magnitude and timing of extreme temperature events. The combined analytical approach confirms that tropical atmospheric dynamics are shaped by interactions between deterministic astronomical cycles and stochastic environmental influences, offering a more robust basis for predictive climatological modeling and advancing the understanding of solar–atmosphere coupling in equatorial regions.

Abstract

This research describes the initial study to develop e-modules based on student perceptions. This type of research is descriptive which was conducted in seven high schools in Padang based on school level with 667 students as respondents. Data were obtained using a questionnaire of student needs for teaching materials consisting of four indicators, namely student characteristics, implementation of physics learning, use of teaching materials in physics learning, and student needs for teaching materials. The results showed that as many as 67% of students experienced difficulties in physics subjects, supported by 53% of teachers who provided feedback at the end of each physics lesson and 45% of teaching materials used were less varied, in other words 80% of students needed other learning resources containing text, images and learning videos that were studied independently. The results of this study are expected to be the basis for the development of e-modules and efforts to improve the quality of physics learning in high school.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the topics that become students' misconceptions in kinematics, the causes that can trigger misconceptions, and the remediation used to overcome these misconceptions. The method used in this research was the systematic review method. Based on the data analysis, it was found that the biggest misconception among students was in straight motion. Several causes trigger the emergence of misconceptions in kinematics, where the causes that often arise come from the students themselves, namely, students' preconceptions or initial conceptions, students' abilities, students' cognitive development stages, wrong intuitions, and students' reasoning.  The remediation that was often used to remediate misconceptions was the use of learning models, for instance, generative models.

Abstract

Critical thinking ability is one of the important skills that need to be improved to face the 21st century. In learning physics, appropriate teaching materials are needed and can improve students' critical thinking skills so that students can increase their learning independence. The purpose of this research is to develop student worksheets integrated with the Predict Observe Explain (POE) learning model to facilitate student's critical thinking skills. The type of research used in this study is Research and Development (R&D) with the Borg and Gall model modified into six stages, namely potential and problems, data collection, product design, product validation, product revision, and product trial. The research instruments used were expert validation sheets, teacher practicality sheets, and student practicality sheets. The data analysis technique used was descriptive statistics. The results of this study are the average value of the validity of the student worksheet product is 0.82 which is categorized as valid, and the average value of practicality according to the teacher is 98% and the average value of practicality according to students is 90% with a very practical category. therefore, the use of student worksheets integrated with the POE model is valid and practical in learning physics.

Abstract

Physics learning at school still shows the implementation of the learning model teacher's use is still learning with a teacher-centred teaching and learning process that creating low student learning outcomes. Therefore, a study was conducted by employing the discovery learning model to increase student learning outcomes. The type of research conducted was a quasi-experiment with the research design RandomisedPossttest Only Control Group Design. With the same number of sample class members, namely 36 students. The research data includes student physics learning outcomes on cognitive aspects. Data analysis techniques employed are normality test, homogeneity and hypothesis testing at the real level of 0.05. Based on data analysis, average physics learning outcomes of students in the knowledge aspect of the experimental class is 82 higher than the control class which is 76. Hypothesis testing of the posttest conducted tcount<ttable where 2.52 > 1.66 H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, it can be concluded in the study that the usage of the discovery learning model has a significan effect on the physics students' learning outcomes a real level of 0.05.

Abstract

In the current era of digital transformation in education, the quality and variety of learning resources play a crucial role in fostering meaningful learning experiences. However, how student learning outcomes remain a critical issue at MAN Kota Solok, particularly due to the limited variety and lack of attractiveness of the teaching materials currently used. This problem underscores the urgency of developing innovative learning resources that can increase student engagement and conceptual understanding. As a solution, this study implements an Electronic Student Worksheet based on the Problem-Based Learning model, which is designed to make learning more interactive and meaningful. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the PBL-based Electronic Student Worksheet in improving student learning outcomes. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a Posttest-Only Control Design, involving two groups: an experimental group using the PBL-based Electronic Student Worksheet and a control group using the conventional worksheets provided by the school. Data were collected through cognitive posttests and psychomotor assessments during the learning process. The findings revealed that the experimental group achieved higher average scores in both cognitive and psychomotor domains than the control group. Furthermore, hypothesis testing showed that the calculated t-value exceeded the critical t-value, indicating a significant difference between the two groups. These results demonstrate that implementing the PBL-based Electronic Student Worksheet effectively enhances student learning outcomes. This study contributes to the development of innovative digital learning resources that not only foster active student participation but also promote deeper conceptual understanding.

Abstract

The demands of 21st-century learning require students to develop higher-order thinking skills, particularly Scientific Higher Order Thinking (S-HOT), which includes scientific reasoning, critical thinking, creative thinking, self-efficacy, and metacognition. This study aims to conduct a needs analysis for the development of S-HOT-based assessment using the Dual Space Inquiry (DSI) approach in kinematics. The study employs a quantitative descriptive method, referring to the preliminary research stage of the Plomp development model, with data collected through questionnaires, observations, interviews, and document analysis. The results of the needs analysis indicate that students’ Scientific Higher Order Thinking (S-HOT) skills have not yet developed optimally, and their implementation in learning remains limited. In addition, the assessments used tend to focus on procedural problem-solving and have not yet accommodated the comprehensive measurement of higher-level scientific thinking processes. These findings reveal a gap between the demands of physics learning and the assessment practices currently implemented. The implications of this study highlight the importance of developing assessments that not only function to measure learning outcomes but also promote students’ higher-level scientific thinking skills. Therefore, it is necessary to develop assessment instruments based on Dual Space Inquiry (DSI) that can comprehensively integrate S-HOT indicators. Future research is recommended to proceed to the stages of development, validation, and practicality testing of S-HOT-based DSI assessments in physics learning.
