Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of landslide vulnerability and how community-based landslide mitigation is carried out in Lubuk Begalung District. This study uses a quantitative descriptive approach. The results of this study indicate that the area with low landslide vulnerability is 1,251.47 hectares, moderate vulnerability is 1,113.24 hectares, and high vulnerability is 512.19 hectares. In the implementation of community-based landslide mitigation in the high landslide vulnerability zone, there is the highest level of involvement in all stages of mitigation. The community in this area is active in observing environmental conditions, participating in training, planting trees, and building retaining walls. In the moderate risk zone, there is sufficient involvement in the implementation stage, such as reforestation and information dissemination, but it is still low in the aspects of planning and evacuation simulation. Conversely, communities in low-risk zones show almost no mitigation activities, whether in the form of risk identification, planning, or implementation.

Abstract

As climate change intensifies and environmental degradation worsens, flooding has transformed from a seasonal event into a persistent and escalating threat. Rural areas are particularly vulnerable due to their limited adaptive capacity and fragile social structures. The increasing frequency and severity of floods underscore the urgent need for both structural reforms and the strengthening of community-based social systems. However, existing studies have not adequately addressed the research gaps, especially concerning how specific components of community social resilience contribute to effective flood disaster management in rural contexts. This study aims to fill that gap by analyzing the role of sustainable community social resilience in managing and adapting to flood disasters in Kampar Regency. The research employs the Rapid Appraisal for Resilience method and analyzes data using Multidimensional Scaling (MDS). It focuses on four key dimensions: social, education, health, and economics. Primary data were collected through interviews with 105 purposively selected respondents from flood-affected communities across 22 subdistricts in Kampar Regency. The results of the multidimensional sustainability index indicate an overall score of 49.06, categorizing the area as “less sustainable.” The dimension-specific scores were as follows: economic (50.29), social (46.08), health (50.10), and education (49.76). These results reveal uneven levels of community resilience, with economic and health dimensions showing slightly better outcomes than others. Tailored interventions addressing dimension-specific weaknesses are essential. Strengthening these localized aspects supports long-term strategies for disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation. This study underscores the importance of incorporating multidimensional assessments into local development planning to build resilience in flood-prone communities.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the spatial vulnerability of Mount Marapi eruption to residential areas. The type of research in this study is quantitative. This research is a geographic research using an ecological/environmental approach. This research was conducted in Agam Regency and Tanah Datar Regency, precisely the sub-districts on the slopes of Mount Marapi with a radius of 7 km. Based on the results of data processing on the total vulnerability of the Mount Marapi eruption area, there are 4 nagari that have a high level of vulnerability to the eruption of Mount Marapi. The areas found in this high vulnerability are dominated by the number of settlements and the high number of residents, both vulnerable age population and poor population. Recommendations for handling the high vulnerability of the eruption of Mount Marapi are limiting the construction of houses in vulnerable areas of Mount Marapi, rearranging settlement space in nagari with high population density, suppressing population growth in vulnerable areas of Mount Marapi eruption, protecting and managing natural forest areas, protected forests and shrubs, limiting and supervising the expansion of productive land.
