Abstract

Abstract. Mathematical modeling is the process of mathematizing real-life problems into mathematical language. Modeling assessment is conducted to evaluate student learning outcomes at the end of the learning process and to gather information on students’ abilities, guiding teaching strategies. The lack of teacher competence in preparing mathematical modeling assessments and students' struggles in mathematical modeling result from a lack of experience in connecting mathematical concepts with real-life problems. This service activity aims to provide training for mathematics teachers in developing assessments based on mathematical modeling to enhance students' AKM. It also aims to understand the response of MGMP mathematics teachers to the training and to obtain high-quality learning tools based on mathematical modeling. The model for implementing this activity is a mentoring model designed to enhance teacher professionalism in preparing teaching and learning activities, particularly in creating digitally assisted learning tools. A total of 22 participants from Ogan Komering Ilir Regency took part in this activity, conducted synchronously and asynchronously. The analysis of the satisfaction response questionnaire revealed positive results in terms of relevance, material attractiveness, practicality, program design, feedback, and recommendations. Abstrak. Pemodelan matematika merupakan proses matematisasi dari permasalahan kehidupan nyata menjadi bahasa matematika. Abstract

Climate change demands urgent attention from both teachers and students. As pivotal agents of change, preservice teachers play a crucial role in shaping a generation that values and conserves the environment. This study investigated how academic background (mathematics/science vs. non-mathematics/science) influences preservice teachers' attitudes toward climate change and their value orientations. The study included 287 mathematics/science and 182 non-mathematics/science preservice teachers who completed a 50-item questionnaire. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was employed to analyze the gathered data. The findings indicated that academic background did not significantly influence preservice teachers' value orientations or attitudes toward climate change. This suggests the presence of other influential factors not examined in this study. Given these results, adopting a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to environmental education is imperative. Such an approach can better equip preservice teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively engage students in understanding and addressing climate change. Further research should focus on identifying these additional influencing factors. This will enable educators to refine environmental education strategies, fostering a future generation that values and actively contributes to environmental stewardship.

Abstract

Geometric argumentation has an important role in solving mathematical problems in geometric material, so students must have this ability. Each student has different thoughts, including when stating arguments. Each student's arguments will vary and be at different levels. This study aims to determine the levels of lower secondary school students' geometric argumentation. This research was conducted in a lower secondary school involving 20 ninth-grade students. Students participating in this study were asked to work on geometry problems related to proof. Through the proofs carried out, the argumentation structure owned by students is visible. The structures of argumentation given by the students were then analysed using Toulmin's model of argumentation.  The components of the Toulmin model used consist of claim, data, warrant, and backing.  The results of the analysis of the proof prepared by the students stated that some of the students have been able to reach a high level of geometric argumentation and can compile a series of proofs. But not a few of them also have difficulty compiling the proof, have difficulty providing the components of the Toulmin model, and make some mistakes. Errors made by students include symbol writing errors, calculation errors, and others.

Abstract

Spatial literacy, as a subset of mathematical literacy, integrates three core domains: visualization, reasoning, and communication. This systematic literature review aims to investigate the application of spatial literacy in geometry education, drawing on existing research findings, and to identify strategies that effectively enhance students' spatial skills within this context. Employing the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines ensures a systematic and structured approach to the review process. Data were sourced from platforms such as Google Scholar, Web of Science, and Scopus, encompassing publications from 2020 to 2024. The findings reveal that spatial literacy in geometry education is fostered through the use of visual aids, geometric models, activities emphasizing mental rotation and transformation, and the integration of spatial language. Additionally, strategies to improve students' spatial literacy include leveraging technology, implementing project-based learning, fostering collaborative group work, and engaging students in physical exploration.
