Abstract

This qualitative descriptive research aims at describing the operation of number learning through picture clapping conducted to students with light mental retardation at Institute for physically and mentally handicapped children in Palembang. This study involves four students at the eighth grade as the subjects. Video recording and observation are undertaken to collect the data. The students' learning process will be recorded in video and later compared to the results of the observation. During the learning process using the selected strategy, teachers' role is as the facilitator to help the pupils translating the repeated adding question to be the multiplying operation. Thus, in the end of the class, students are able to do the exercises given.

Abstract

This research is qualitative research with design research methods and a development research type aiming to produce valid and practical worksheets on relational and functional materials based on problem-based learning (PBL) to support students' conceptual understanding. The learning process is carried out in the classroom with learning activities, accompanied by a student's worksheet, which consists of 2 questions. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII 10 of SMP Negeri 8 Palembang, with 6 students as the focus of the research. There are 2 stages in this research, namely: (1) preliminary stage and (2) prototyping stage (formative evaluation), which is divided into 5 stages, namely (1) self-evaluation, (2) expert review, (3) one to one, (4) small group and (5) field test. This research was conducted based on the learning system in schools with data collection techniques, namely walkthroughs, tests, interviews, and questionnaires, to be collected and analyzed qualitatively to see the validity and practicality of the worksheet. The results of this study will show that the worksheet that has been made is valid, as seen from the results of the expert review and practical validation sheets obtained from the questionnaire results, with an average of 84.03%, which is included in the valid and practical categories. The developed worksheet also supports understanding PBL-based concepts (Problem-Based Learning) in solving problems given in relation and function material, which can be seen from the overall student test results.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine student errors and the factors that caused students to make mistakes in solving PISA-type math problems. Error analysis was carried out based on Newman's analysis through tests and interviews. This research was conducted in one of the junior high schools in the Province of the Bangka Belitung Islands, involving 26 students. Subjects were selected based on a purposive sampling technique with three considerations: academic ability, teacher recommendations, and student willingness. This study used the descriptive qualitative method. The PISA math test questions tested consisted of change and relationship, space and shape, quantity and uncertainty, and data content. The results showed that reading errors were 40.21%, comprehension errors were 41.86%, transformation errors were 87.29%, process skill error is 90.26%, and the answer writing error is 88.46%. While uncertain and data is the content with the most significant error percentage, which is 82.31%. In general, errors were caused by students who cannot relate PISA questions to the material they usually study, and students were not accustomed to working on PISA questions.

Abstract

Mathematical argumentation is an important skill that must be owned in the 21st century. The purpose of the research is to analyze the structure of high school students' algebraic argumentation using the Toulmin model which consists of claim, data, warrant, and backing. This study involved 35 students in the odd semester of the 2022/2023 academic year at Muhammadiyah 1 Palembang High School. The students were asked to provide algebraic argumentation in mathematical proofs related to the quadratic function theorem. The algebraic argumentation was then analyzed using the Toulmin model. The results showed that 20% of students' mathematical argumentation skills were at level 5; 57.14% of students' mathematical argumentation skills were at level 4; 20% of students' mathematical argumentation skills were at level 3; 2.86% of students' mathematical argumentation skills were at level 2; and no students were at level 1.

This research focuses on creating infographic media in algebra material through Instagram to reduce mathematics anxiety and improve learning outcomes. The method used in this research is development research using the Sadiman’s model. The stages in this development model are preliminary stage, prototyping stage, and final stage, which from three stages contain of nine steps, namely identification of needs, formulation of objectives, formulation of materials, formulation of success measurement tools, writing of media scripts, production, tests/trials, revisions and the final product. There were 34 students of seventh graders of junior high school participating in this study. Data was collected through interviews, observations, tests, and questionnaires. Data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results of the validation test by experts show that 93% of infographics through Instagram as strengthening students' understanding are included in the valid category and are suitable for use in the learning process. In addition, as many as 88% of students experienced an increase in learning outcomes after learning to use infographics through Instagram which indicated that the level of student anxiety in learning mathematics had decreased.

Abstract

Abstract

TThis study aims to create a problem-solving based learning path for exponential material using the context of worm growth and to determine the effectiveness of this problem-solving based learning path for exponential material utilizing the context of worm growth. Exponential material is often considered difficult by students, so we must be able to create an interesting learning path to assist students in problem-solving, one of which is the PMRI approach. The worms' growth and reproduction process illustrates the exponential concept with an exponential regeneration and growth cycle. This study consists of four activities: (1) Understanding the problem, (2) Developing a plan, (3) Implementing the plan, and (4) Re-examining. The method used in this study is the design research method of the validation study type, which consists of three stages: preparation and design, design experiment, and retrospective analysis. Data collection techniques in this study used observation techniques, interviews, student work results, and pretests/posttests. The results of this study are learning paths designed to provide in-depth conceptual understanding for students and become solutions in problem-solving, especially in exponential material.
