Abstract

This study was conducted to determine how the fermented feed effect against blood profile, digestive organ and fecal ammonia of laying ducks. Feed materials were prepared according to laying ducks need as 21% crude protein, then mixed rations already given water until 45% the water content, then anaerobic fermented for 7 days. This study used a completely randomized design with 4 treatments of feed, such as: dry feed, wet feed, wet fermentation feed, and commercial dry feed. Each treatment was repeated 5 times, and each replication was consisted of four laying ducks. Laying duck were 80 heads Indramayu duck at 5 month of old. Blood observations were taken 3 times at 5 months, 6.5 months and 8 months old. Parameters measured were red blood cell (RBC), packed cell volume (PCV) = volume percentage of erythrocytes in the blood, hemoglobin (Hb), white blood cell (WBC), heterophile cell (H), lymphocytes (L), monosit (M) and the ratio of HL. Blood was taken from vena pectoralis vein under duck wings. Observation of digestive organs and fecal ammonia content was at 8 months old of duck. The results showed in pre treatment of the 5 months ducks significantly influenced the PCV and the WBC, but at 6.5 months and 8 months of treatment did not significantly affect blood profile of laying ducks. Digestive organs of liver in fermentation treatment showed significantly lower than in controls. The content of fecal ammonia were not significantly different.

Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the effect of Hemicell® addition on diets containing different levels of crude fiber on performance and egg quality of laying hens. A total of 72 laying hens aged 21 weeks were randomly divided into 18 experimental units. A completely randomized design with factorial design 2×3 and 3 replications was employed in this study. Factor A was crude fiber level (5% and 8%) and factor B was the level of Hemicell®(0, 100x103 and 200x103 IU/kg ration). Results showed that crude fiber significantly (P<0.01) increased feed consumption and decreased the performance of laying hens. The addition of Hemicell®in diets significantly (P<0.01) decreased feed consumption and increased the performance of laying hens. Hemicell®addition (100 IU) to a diet containing 8% crude fiber significantly (P<0.05) affected egg mass, feed conversion ratio, egg yolk score and egg weight. It can be concluded that diet with 8% crude fiber added with Hemicell® (100 IU) could increase egg mass, feed conversion ratio, egg weight and yolk color score.

Abstract

The achievement of this study was to evaluate the use of jack bean seed and protease enzymes in different protein levels in the Broiler ration on performance and metabolizable energy. Two hundred and forty broilers were distributed into 3 object factors and 3 replications. The first factor was the difference of the ingredients (soybean meal-based basal ration and jack bean seed-contained rations), the second factor was the level of protein (22% and 19.5%) and the third factor was the enzyme treatment (without enzymes and with the inclusion of the proteases). A total of 2 birds from each treatment were assigned as a sample for metabolizable energy assay. The experimental design used was a factorial completely randomized design (FCRD). The data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results showed that adding jack bean seed into the Broiler starter’s ration significantly (P <0.01) decreased the body weight gain (BWG) but it could be improved with the inclusion of protease enzyme. The metabolizable energy of the ration containing jack bean seed was significantly higher (P<0.01) than in the basal ration. The use of a low protein level ration (19.5%) significantly (P <0.01) showed the decrease in BWG, decrease in true metabolizable energy, and true corrected-nitrogen metabolizable energy but could be improved with the addition of protease enzyme. The use of the protease enzyme could improve the performance of broiler chickens fed with a low protein ration that contained Jack bean seed (Canavalia ensiformis).

Abstract

This experiment aimed to evaluate the decrease of the fiber fraction of some agricultural and plantation residues after being treated with Fiber Cracking Technology (FCT) and urea. The residues included rice straw, oil palm frond (OPF), oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB), cocoa pod and coffee husk. They were added with 5% urea and incubated in FCT at temperature 135oC and pressure 2.3 atm for 2.5 h. The experimental treatments were arranged as a factorial design 5 × 2, in which the first factor was various agricultural and plantation residues (rice straw, OPF, OPEFB, cocoa pod and coffee husk) and the second factor was FCT application (untreated and treated with FCT + 5% urea), performed in 4 replicates. All treatments were subjected to Van Soest analysis and in vitro digestibility test. The decrease of fiber fraction was confirmed with Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) methods. Results showed that FCT + 5% urea treatment decreased NDF, ADF, cellulose and lignin contents of all samples (P<0.05), and increased IVDMD and IVOMD in comparison to untreated samples (P<0.05). However, the treatment did not alter in vitro methane gas production and VFA profiles of the samples. Analyses using SEM, XRD and FTIR revealed that FCT + 5% urea treatment demolished cell wall component, decreased crystallinity index and cleaved fiber bonds. It was concluded that combination between FCT and urea 5% effectively enhances the quality of some fibrous feed materials.

Abstract

This research aimed to evaluate the effect of cassava leaf meal with enzyme supplementation in feed on the digestive organs of the broiler. The research used a completely randomized factorial design on 48 Cobb-strain broilers distributed into two observation factors and four replications (consisting of 2 samples). The observation factor is factor 1 is the addition of cassava leaf meal (0%; 1.5%; and 3.0%), and the second factor is the addition of non-starch polysaccharides and protease enzymes with each dose of 250 g/ton feed (with and without enzymes). The variables analyzed were the relative weight of the digestive organs, the relative weight of the parts of the small intestine, and the relative length of the parts of the small intestine. The data obtained were analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA), and if the results indicated significantly different, then the posthoc test was conducted. The results showed that the addition of cassava leaf meal could increase the relative weight of the gizzard significantly (p<0.05). The addition of enzymes can significantly decrease the relative weight of the gizzard, small intestine, pancreas, ileum, and the relative length of the duodenum and ileum (p<0.05). The use of cassava leaf meal in the feed up to 3.0% does not interfere with digestive organs. There was no interaction between cassava leaf meal and enzymes on size response of digestibility broiler organ. The addition of enzymes can offset the detrimental effects caused by the use of cassava leaf meals in feed.

Abstract

Rice bran is one of the feed ingredients used in various types of animal rations in Indonesia. In addition to containing anti-nutrients, rice bran has also a low storability. This research was conducted to study the impact of using hermetic packaging and a preservative containing calcium propionate (ProsidTM MI 208) application on the physical properties of rice bran during storage. The factorial completely randomized design (CRD), 3 x 4 with 4 replications was applied. The first factor was storage time 0 (W0), 30 (W30), and 60 (W60) days; the second factor was burlap sack + 0 ppm calcium propionate (P1), burlap sack + 160 ppm calcium propionate (P2), hermetic sack + 0 ppm calcium propionate (P3), and hermetic sack + 160 ppm calcium propionate (P4). The variables measured were moisture content (MC), bulk density (BD), tapped density (TD) dan true density (TDS). The obtained data were analyzed using if there was a significant difference, followed by Duncan's multiple range test. The results showed that storage time significantly (P<0.05) increased the MC and decreased the BD, TD, and TDS values. The increasing MC and the decreasing BD, TD, and TDS values of the rice bran during storage were higher (P<0.05) in the burlap sakcs than in the hermetic sacks packaging both with and without the addition of calcium propionate. The combination of using hermetic sacks with the application of calcium propionate could further increase to maintain of the physical properties of rice bran from the damage. The use of a hermetic sack and the application of calcium propionate could maintain the quality of rice bran and increase the resistance of rice bran to damage during 60 days of storage.
