Abstract

ABSTRACT:  The quality of semen inseminated to the dam might influence on the fer-tilization process and fetal growth during pregnancy. The aim of this research was to analysis the litter size, birth and weaning weight of Boer x PE goat crosses. Forty one parous and multiparous Peranakan Etawah (PE) does were naturally mated with selected Boer buck (NM-group), while the other 24 does were inseminated using artificial tech-nique using semen collected from the same buck as NM-group  and called as AI-group. The result showed no significant differences in litter size, birth weight and weaning weight between kids resulting from the does mated naturally and artificially insemina-tion technique (1.8±0.64 vs. 1.79±0.58; 2.93±0.568 vs. 2.96±0.397 kg; and 11.06 ± 2.001 kg vs. 11.31 ± 1.54 kg, for litter size, birth weight and weaning weight, respec-tively. It was concluded that mating technique in cross mating between PE does x Boer buck did not influence on the litter size and early growth phase of kids. Keywords: PE does, Boer buck, natural mating, artificial insemination

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the dose of mangosteen rinds juice (0%, 2%, and 4%) in a diluent Tris Aminomethane-egg yolk. The fresh semen was collected once a week using an artificial vagina from five Limousin bulls aged 8 to 11 years old with a body weight of 895-1034 kg. The research method was experimental laboratory using a randomized block design with 3 treatments and 10 replications. If there were significant influences among the variables, it would be then tested by Duncan’s Multiple Range test method. The result showed that Tris Aminomethane-egg yolk diluent with 4% of mangosteen rinds juice suplementation had significant differences (P<0.05) on the sperm quality kept for 72 hours in the cold storage in terms of the percentage of sperm motility and sperm viability. It also had a significant difference (P<0.05) on sperm abnormality particularly within the 1st hour. It can be concluded that the addition of 4% mangosteen rinds juice in Tris Aminomethane-egg yolk diluent could protect Limousin bull semen quality (motility, viability and abnormality) after stored for 72 hours at 50C. Keywords: Abnormality, liquid semen, mangosteen rind, motility, viability

Abstract

The factors that influence the success of Artificial Insemination is affected by acceptors that will be used for AI which have a good Body Condition Score, because BCS has a relationship with animal reproduction, such as fertility and pregnancy. The purpose of this research was to evaluate and determine the relationship of Body Condition Score (BCS) on Service per Conception (S/C) and Conception Rate (CR). The material used was 80 Brahman Cross (BX) cows, the sample was selected by Purposive Sampling with the criteria 2-3 years old with body weight ranged from 300-500 kg, gave birth, and BCS between 4-7 (scale 1-9). The method used in this study was the survey method. The variables observed were the relationship between Body Condition Score (BCS), Service per conception (S/C), and Conception Rate (CR). The data was obtained by using correlation analysis and also a simple regression with the SPSS 2.0 software program, then analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the equation of relationship between BCS and S/C variables obtained r = 0.961% and the regression value equation y = -25.998 + 1.520x (R2) 23.9%. The relationship between BCS and CR variables obtained a value of r = 0.976% and BCS regression equation value with CR y = -39.727 + 1.109x (R2) 29.5%. The research thus concludes that there is a positive relationship that is being between BCS on the S/C and CR of Brahman Cross cows.

Abstract

The success of artificial insemination (AI) would be determined by the semen quality during storage. This research aims to evaluate the quality of Boer goat liquid semen stored with caudal epididymal plasma (CEP-3) supplemented with water clover (Marsilea crenata) extract or WCE during cold storage (3-5ºC). The semen was collected from Boer goat aged 2.5 to 3 years old by using an artificial vagina. The semen with >2+ mass motility and >70% individual motility were then selected for the study. A randomized block design which consisted of four treatments with ten replications as follow: P0 or control (CEP-3 + 10% egg yolk + 0.4% albumen); P1 (CEP-3 + 10% egg yolk + 0.4% albumen + 1% WCE; P2 (CEP-3 + 10% egg yolk + 0.4% albumen + 2% WCE); P3 (CEP-3 + 10% egg yolk + 0.4% albumen + 3% WCE) was used in this study. The data were analyzed with ANOVA and followed with Duncan’s multiple range test to determine significant differences. The results of this study showed that motility, viability, and membrane integrity in all treatments showed highly significant differences (P<0.01), while no significant difference (P>0.05) was shown on the semen abnormality. The result concludes that 1% WCE supplementation to the CEP-3 extender showed the best Boer semen quality during 96-hours cold storage.

Abstract

There is lack of evidence on the black soldier fly (Hermetia Illucens L.) and its use as a biological control and waste recycle agent. Unknown information related with mating and ovipositional activities. The aim of this research is to determine the reproductive profile and its manure of the Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia Illucens L.) through different rearing substrate as ruminant feed. A total of 4 treatments and 4 replicates were used in this experiment. The treatment diet was formulated as follows:    T0:  dry fermented cow waste, T1: 21% of crude protein, T2: 22% of protein, T3: 23% of protein. The data was analyzed using ODA SAS on an academic general linear model (GLM).  The result showed using different rearing substrates gave insignificant differences (p > 0.05) on the reproductive profile, nutritional content, and manure nutritional content. In summary, the use of different leves of protein can be used as the rearing substrate without any adverse effects.

Abstract

Bali cattle constitute one of Indonesia's native germplasm sources for meat supply. Beef is one of the primary sources of protein that plays a crucial role in meeting the nutritional needs of the community. The research material consisted of 251 female Bali cattle aged 12 months and 24 months. These Bali cattle belong to the farmer group in Bontang city, Kutai Timur Regency (Kutim), Berau Regency, Kutai Kartanegara Regency (Kukar), Penajam Paser Utara Regency (PPU), and Paser Regency. The morphometric traits measured were withers height (WH), chest girth (CG), and body length (BL). The data obtained were analysed via analyses of variance, and if there were significant differences, the analysis was continued until a least significant difference was detected. The results revealed significant differences in the morphometric characteristics of 12-month-old Bali cattle across regions (P<0.01). The highest WH was from Bontang cattle (104.30±3.16a), and the lowest was from PPU (98.94±6.79c). The CG of Bontang cattle also had the highest value (131.30±6.29a), and the lowest value was from PPU (119.59±7.34b), with the highest BL of cattle from Berau (101.22±2.73a) and the lowest value from PPU (93.35±4.89b). Twenty-four-month-old female Bali cattle also presented significant morphometric differences (P<0.01) across regions. Cattle from the PPU consistently excelled in all parameters: WH (108.00±2.24a), CG (138.40±3.51), and BL (110.60±6.66a). The lowest WH was cattle from Berau at WH (101.33±0.58b), CG (126.00±2.65), and BL (97.33±4.62b). In conclusion, on the basis of observations of withers height, heart girth, and body length, all individual samples met the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) criteria for female Bali cattle breeding stock. Significant morphometric differences are caused by local genetic selection factors, the environment, feed availability, feed quality, and management practices.
