Abstract

Sungkai (Peronema canescens Jack) is known to contain flavonoid compounds with antioxidant properties that may contribute to blood glucose reduction. Cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmanii (Nees & T. Nees) Blume) also contains key antidiabetic compounds, including methylhydroxy chalcone, cinnamaldehyde, and proanthocyanidins. The combination of multiple medicinal plants is believed to produce a synergistic effect, potentially enhancing antidiabetic activity. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a combination of sungkai and cinnamon leaf extracts on body weight and blood glucose levels in alloxan-induced mice (Mus musculus). The extracts were obtained through maceration and subjected to phytochemical screening. The antidiabetic test was conducted using seven treatment groups, with observations recorded on days 3, 5, and 7 following extract administration. Phytochemical analysis revealed that the combined extract contained alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, steroids, and triterpenoids. The treatment groups (C+, P1–P5) showed a lower percentage of body weight loss compared to the negative control group; however, no statistically significant differences were observed. In contrast, the P5 group (250 mg sungkai extract + 100 mg cinnamon extract) demonstrated the highest percentage reduction in blood glucose levels, reaching 43.97% on day 5, significantly outperforming other treatment groups. These findings suggest that the combination of sungkai and cinnamon leaf extracts has promising potential as an effective antidiabetic agent. Keywords:          Diabetes, Sungkai, Cinnamon   Abstrak Sungkai (Peronema canescens Jack) diketahui mengandung senyawa flavonoid yang berpotensi menurunkan kadar glukosa darah melalui aktivitas antioksidannya. Kayu manis (Cinnamomum burmanii (Nees & T. Nees) Blume) juga mengandung senyawa aktif seperti metilhidroksi chalcone, sinamaldehid, dan proantosianidin yang berperan dalam mekanisme antidiabetes. Kombinasi beberapa tanaman obat diyakini dapat memberikan efek sinergis yang lebih kuat dalam menurunkan kadar gula darah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi efek kombinasi ekstrak daun sungkai dan kayu manis terhadap berat badan dan kadar glukosa darah pada mencit (Mus musculus) yang diinduksi aloksan. Ekstrak diperoleh melalui metode maserasi dan diuji kandungan fitokimianya. Uji antidiabetes dilakukan pada tujuh kelompok perlakuan yang diamati pada hari ke-3, ke-5, dan ke-7 setelah pemberian perlakuan. Hasil skrining fitokimia menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi ekstrak daun sungkai dan kayu manis mengandung senyawa alkaloid, flavonoid, tanin, saponin, steroid, dan triterpenoid. Kombinasi ekstrak menunjukkan penurunan berat badan yang lebih rendah dibandingkan kelompok kontrol negatif, namun perbedaannya belum signifikan secara statistik. Sebaliknya, perlakuan P5 (kombinasi 250 mg ekstrak daun sungkai dan 100 mg ekstrak kayu manis) menunjukkan penurunan kadar glukosa darah paling signifikan, dengan persentase sebesar 43,97% pada hari ke-5. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi ekstrak daun sungkai dan kayu manis memiliki potensi sebagai agen antidiabetes yang efektif. Kata Kunci:         Antidiabetes, Kayu Manis, Sungkai

Abstract

Geopark Merangin is one of the World’s Natural Heritages (Geological Heritage Site) in Jambi Province which under the auspices of UNESCO. The area has the potential to be developed into an eco-geotourism area. To support this development, monitoring is needed for geological diversity, biodiversity, and cultural diversity. One potential study that can be explored is the existence of freshwater crabs. To date, the existence of freshwater crab species in the waters of Geopark Merangin has not been reported. This study aims to collect freshwater crabs that can be found in the Geopark Merangin area as a preliminary study of freshwater crab diversity in that area. The result indicates that one of the freshwater crab can be found is Parathelphusa maidroni. The presence of P. maidroni in Geopark Merangin area can serve as bioindicator of good water quality and open up potential for the discovery of other species. Futhermore, the discovery of P. maidroni in the aquatic region of Geopark Merangin can be considered as an initial step towards the identification of various freshwater crab species in that area.  AbstrakKawasan perairan Geopark Merangin Provinsi Jambi merupakan salah satu warisan alam dunia (Geological Heritage Site) dibawah naungan UNESCO. Kawasan tersebut berpotensi untuk dikembangakan menjadi kawasan Eco-geowisata. Untuk mendukung pengembangan tersebut, perlu dilakukan monitoring baik dari keanekaragaman geologi, keanekaragaman hayati maupun keanekaragaman budaya. Salah satu kajian yang dapat digali potensinya yaitu keberadaan kepiting air tawar. Sampai saat ini belum dilaporkan keberadaan jenis-jenis kepiting air tawar yang ada di perairan Geopark Merangin. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji jenis kepiting air tawar yang dapat ditemukan di kawasan Geopark Merangin sebagai studi pendahuluan terkait keragaman kepiting air tawar yang ada di kawasan tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan salah satu jenis kepiting air tawar yang dapat ditemukan yaitu Parathelphusa maidroni. Keberadaan P. maidroni di kawasan perairan Geopark Merangin dapat menjadi bioindikator perairan yang masih baik, dan membuka potensi ditemukan jenis kepiting air tawar lainnya. Selain itu dengan ditemukannya P. maidroni di kawasan perairan Geopark Merangin dapat dijadikan sebagai langkah awal untuk dilakukannya pendataan dan eksplorasi jenis-jenis kepiting air tawar di kawasan tersebut.

Abstract

The utilization of organism in the mangrove forest area should always in minimum tolerance of utilization, especially in the vicinity of conservation areas. Therefore, as an initial step to assess the knowledge and understanding of community in the buffer village of the East Coast Mangrove Forest Conservation Area (CAHBPT) need to be conducted. The research was carried out from April to September 2023. This research is descriptive research which divided in two steps, namely interviews with respondents and sample identification. The interview method used in this research is semi-structured interviews, which open-ended and conducted on topic development. Respondent selection in this research uses the snowball sampling technique (26 respondents which conducted by 16 males and 10 females). The result shows the knowledge and understanding of community in the buffer village of the East Coast Mangrove Forest Conservation Area (CAHBPT) about the important of conservation activity is relatively high. 90% of the respondents are familiar with the term of CAHBPT and the conservation efforts being undertaken. The involvement of the BKSDA Jambi has a significant impact of the knowledge and understanding of the community.

Abstract

Background: Agroforestry systems integrate agricultural production with environmental conservation, particularly in tropical regions. Although durian-based agroforestry practices have long been established in Jambi, comprehensive studies on their ecological structure, contribution to biodiversity, and sustainability strategies remain limited. This study aims to analyze the population structure of durian trees, agroforestry patterns, biodiversity, as well as the challenges and sustainability strategies of the system.  Methodology: Data were collected through vegetation analysis and in-depth interviews conducted in durian agroforestry areas in Selat, Jambi Province. Findings: The results show that agroforestry systems in this region are dominated by old durian trees that have strong associations with other species such as Jengkol (Archidendron pauciflorum), Duku (Lansium domesticum), and Rubber (Hevea brasiliensis).  Contribution: This research contributes to biodiversity conservation by providing habitats for local flora and fauna and maintaining ecosystem balance. However, the sustainability of this system faces significant challenges, including land conversion due to population pressure, oil palm plantation expansion, declining durian productivity, and the emergence of the “tasteless durian” phenomenon that reduces fruit quality. Therefore, management strategies focusing on species diversification, tree rejuvenation, and innovations in cultivation technology are essential to sustain durian agroforestry and improve community welfare, particularly in the Selat region

Abstract

Red pedada (Sonneratia caseolaris L.) is a mangrove plant that is often found in the East Tanjung Jabung Regency, Jambi Province. This plant contains several secondary metabolite compounds including alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, polyphenols, tannins, triterpenoids and steroids. This study aims to determine the comparison of antioxidant activity contained in extracts of leaves and fruit of red pedada (Sonneratia caseolaris L.). Extraction was carried out using the maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent. The antioxidant activity test was carried out using the DPPH (diphenyl-picrylhydrazyl) method and measured using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 517 nm. The results of the phytochemical test of red pedada leaf and fruit extract (Sonneratia caseolaris L.) showed positive results for alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, polyphenol and tannin compounds. Meanwhile, steroid compounds were only positive in leaves, and triterpenoids only in fruit. The results of the comparison of the antioxidant activity test of red pedada leaf and fruit extracts (Sonneratia caseolaris L.) showed better antioxidant activity in the leaves based on the IC50 value of 14,196 ppm and in the fruit of 24,590 ppm. The conclusion of this research is that red pedada leaf and fruit extract (Sonneratia caseolaris L.) has antioxidant activity very strong category.

Abstract

Jamu atau ramuan herbal merupakan ramuan tradisional yang menjadi ciri khas budaya Indonesia dan telah diwariskan kepada generasi penerus secara turun-temurun. Dalam proses pembuatannya, jamu dibuat berdasarkan resep dari leluhur dan berperan upaya melestarikan keanekaragaman hayati yang berkhasiat obat serta turut melestarikan kebudayaan Indonesia sebagai ciri khas tradisi yang dimiliki. Yogurt merupakan minuman fungsional yang baik terhadap kesehatan gastrointestinal dan kardiovaskular. Telah diteliti, kombinasi jamu dan yogurt mampu meningkatkan kadar antioksidan yang berperan dalam melindungi radikal bebas. Aur Duri adalah salah satu kelurahan yang berada disekitar 10 km dari Kampus Universitas Jambi Mendalo dan juga merupakan tempat domisili peneliti pengabdi. Beberapa penjual jamu gendong adalah ibu-ibu produktif kerap ditemui pengabdi dikelurahan ini.. Metode yang dilakukan adalah metode pengenalan terhadap produk inovasi,pelatihan dan pembekalan terhadap produk inovasi, monitoring dan evaluasi. Hasil pengabdian berdasarkan prestest dan posttest kuisioner menunjukkan bahwa mitra antusias dan memahami terhadap materi yogurt dan dapat mempraktekkan sendiri dirumah masing masing, feedback kegiatan berjalan lancar dan berkeberlanjutan.

Abstract

Waste management has become a central issue due to the growing population and the increasing amount of unmanaged waste. This management should be implemented across all aspects of life, from small to large scales. At the smaller scale, waste management is introduced starting from schools, where values are instilled in students that they will carry into adulthood. The habit of managing waste from an early age is expected to become a positive practice in the future. State Senior High School (SMA N) 3 Muaro Jambi is a well-regarded Senior High School in Jambi Province, holding an A accreditation. Currently, SMA N 3 Muaro Jambi does not have an effective waste management system, particularly for organic waste. Additionally, the school is planning to implement the Adiwiyata program, which includes waste management as one of its key points. This community service activity is carried out in three stages: a survey and analysis of the waste problems, socialization of organic waste management into liquid organic fertilizer as an environmentally friendly solution, and practical training in organic waste management. It is hoped that this activity will provide students with knowledge that can lead to business development, serve as a benchmark for other schools in Jambi Province, and help fulfill the requirements for the Adiwiyata program.

Abstract

The Study of structure and compotition of invasive species in protected peat forest area of ​​the Sungai Buluh, Tanjung Jabung Timur was conducted from April to September 2020. This research was conducted in open space area. Data were collected with systematic sampling method in 2 x 2 m plot in tree long transects 500 m. Every transect has 5 plots with the same distance of 100 m, so that the total plots are 25 plots. The data obtained were analyzed to determine the importance value indeks of plant species, diversity indeks and Eveness index of plants in the location. Based on the identification results, were found 31 invasive spesies in Protected Peat Forest Sungai Buluh. Cynodon dactylon was found high Important Value Index 28.60%. Diversity index was found 2,65 and the value of the evenness index 0,77 in research location.

Abstract

Hutan gambut merupakan hutan tropis dan menjadi sumber daya alam yang unik yang dapat mendukung keanekaragaman flora dan fauna termasuk amfibi. Hutan gambut sering mengalami kebakaran pada saat musim kemarau. Kebakaran dapat mengancam kelangsungan hidup sejumlah flora dan fauna tak terkecuali amfibi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis dan komposisi amfibi serta untuk mengetahui indeks keanekaragaman dan kemerataan amfibi di Hutan Lindung Gambut (HLG) Tanjung Jabung Timur. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Visual Encounter Survey (VES) yang dikombinasikan dengan transek. Transek merupakan transek akuatik yang dibuat sepanjang 500m. Data yang telah diperoleh dianalisis dengan menggunakan Indeks Shannon Wiener dan dengan menghitung kemerataan jenis. Hasil penelitian yaitu jenis amfibi yang didapat ada 4 jenis (Fejervarya limnocharis, Fejervarya cancrivora, Hylarana erythraea dan Pulchrana baramica). Nilai keanekaragaman tergolong sedang dengan nilai H’= 1, 03. Hal ini menunjukkan secara ekologis kondisi habitat di HLG Londerang mampu untuk mendukung keberadaan jenis amfibi. Nilai kemerataan jenis amfibi menunjukkan nilai E= 0,74 yang berarti pensebaran amfibi tergolong cukup merata.

Abstract

Makrofungi telah lama menarik perhatian para ilmuwan dan masyarakat karena peran penting mereka dalam kehidupan manusia dan lingkungan. Namun, informasi tentang keanekaragaman hutan rawa gambut intropis makrofungi masih terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat katalog keanekaragaman hayati makrofungi dari Hutan Lindung Londerang di Provinsi Jambi, Indonesia. Area ini rentan terhadap kebakaran, yang dapat menyebabkan penurunan keanekaragaman hayati termasuk macrofungi.Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksplorasi berupa pembuatan jalur makrofungi, dan identifikasi makrofungi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dijumpai sebanyak 39 spesies macrofungi milik divisi filum Basidiomycota dan Ascomycota. Sembilan keluarga diwakili, yaitu: Polyporaceae (tujuh genus: Microporus, Polyporus, Earliella, Daedaleopis, Pycnoporus, Trametes, Ganoderma); Crepidotaceae (satu genus: Crepidotus); Tricholomataceae (dua genus: Mycena, Marasmius); Agaricaceae (dua genus: Cystolepiota, Lepiota); Russulaceae (satu genus: Russula); Auriculariaceae (satu genus: Auricularia); Genus Cantharellaceae 1 Cantharellus, gen Lycoperdiaceae 1 yaitu Calvatia, dan genus Xylariaceae 1 yaitu Daldania. Berdasarkan tempat pertumbuhannya, 68% ditemukan tumbuh di kayu mati dan 16% ditemukan tumbuh di tanah atau sampah.
