Abstract

This study aims to analyze: 1) the socioeconomic characteristics and NEET (Not in employment, education, or training) status of young individuals in Jambi Province; 2) the determinants influencing the NEET status of young people in Jambi Province. The data utilized in this study is derived from a survey conducted in four sample villages within Jambi Province, consisting of 200 young participants. Descriptive statistical tools, single-frequency and cross-frequency tables, and binary logit regression are employed for analysis. The findings of the study reveal that: 1) NEET youth, when compared to non-NEET youth, tend to be older, have a higher proportion of females, possess higher education levels, are more likely to be married, are predominantly non-migrants, and have fewer siblings or step-siblings; 2) The parents of NEET youth, in comparison to non-NEET youth, generally have higher incomes and predominantly belong to non-Malay ethnicities in Jambi. 3) Factors significantly impacting the categorization of youth as NEET include gender, education, marital status, and parental income.

Abstract

The community engagement activity aims to: 1) Provide understanding to officials and policy makers in the West Tanjung Jabung Regency Government about the role and importance of interregional cooperation in accelerating development; 2) Enhance the practical knowledge of officials and policy makers in the West Tanjung Jabung Regency Government in designing the establishment of interregional cooperation institutions. The methods employed in this socialization activity include lectures, discussions, audiovisual presentations, and evaluations. During the lectures, knowledge materials cover the philosophy, basic concepts, and understanding of interregional cooperation; general principles of interregional cooperation; various forms of interregional cooperation; legal foundations of interregional cooperation; interregional cooperation experiences in Europe and Asia; and technical aspects of implementing interregional cooperation in Indonesia. Through discussions, participants are trained to articulate ideas and key points related to interregional cooperation. Additionally, audiovisual tools are utilized to present materials, case studies, and challenges related to interregional cooperation as a means to enhance participants' interest and motivation in the socialization process. The results of this community engagement activity conducted by the University of Jambi's community engagement team received positive responses from the participants. This is evident from the high level of participation in discussions and the emergence of statements from participants highlighting the importance of establishing interregional cooperation between West Tanjung Jabung Regency and other regencies to enhance the development of West Tanjung Jabung Regency.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze: 1) the socio-economic characteristics of households of informal sector workers in Jambi City; 2) the coping strategies of these households in facing the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic; 3) the influence of household socio-economic characteristics on the economic coping strategies of informal sector workers in Jambi City. The primary data used in this study were sourced from a survey of households of informal sector workers in Jambi City. The analysis utilized descriptive statistical tools and structural equation modeling (SEM). The findings of the study reveal that: 1) informal sector workers are generally of productive age, with relatively good education, and predominantly engaged in trading and daily wage labor; 2) the COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted the social conditions of these households, particularly in terms of income, savings, and non-food expenditures; 3) in the context of economic coping strategies, the strategy of generating additional income is more commonly employed by these households compared to cutting back expenses; 4) the characteristics of the wife and the family significantly influence the coping strategies adopted by households of informal sector workers. In contrast, the characteristics of the household head do not have a significant impact.
