Abstract

Consumptive behavior is the tendency to buy goods or services without rational consideration. This study aims to analyze the influence of financial literacy and reference groups toward consumptive behavior across senior high school students. The study used a cross-sectional design and the research location was selected purposively based on the distance of the school from the shopping center area. Using the self-administered questionnaire, the study involved 125 students of public high school (SMAN) at Bogor City, that is SMAN 3 and SMAN 9. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and inferential statistics. The study showed that the level of financial literacy was in the medium category, while the reference group and the level of consumptive behavior were in a low category. Moreover, results indicated a relationship between the characteristics of adolescents, financial literacy, reference groups, and consumptive behavior. The regression test found a significant negative effect of financial behavior toward consumptive behavior. Females were more likely to be more consumptive, while reference groups positively influenced the consumptive behavior of senior high school students.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effect of financial literacy and self-control on financial behavior among Bogor High School students. This research was conducted in two public high schools in Bogor, West Java, Indonesia, that were selected based on the level of passing grade of the school (high-grade and low grade). In collecting the data, this study used a self-administered questionnaire. About 113 of senior high school students from science and social majors were selected as the sample. This study found that financial knowledge and financial attitude were on a moderate level. High-grade school students tend to have better financial knowledge and attitude than those from low-grade schools. The results of this study also show that the self-control of students was classified as a low category. Those from low-grade schools were more likely to have better self-control compared to students from the high-grade school. Furthermore, financial behavior, which consists of saving and spending behavior, were categorized as poor. There was a significant difference in financial knowledge, financial attitude, and self-control among both schools. The financial attitude was positively significantly related to financial knowledge and behavior. Self-control was associated positively with financial behavior. Further analysis of multiple linear regression shows a positive and significant effect of financial attitude and self-control towards financial behavior.

Abstract

In sandwich-generation families, there are individuals who simultaneously support the financial needs of children and the elderly. This is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design using an online survey as a data collection tool. The study was conducted in Indonesia with a research population including sandwich families living in one house consisting of three generations: husband and wife, children, and elderly. The research sample consisted of working wives from the sandwich generation. Of the 223 respondents who participated, 106 met the criteria for further analyses. The results show that spousal education and income play important roles in reducing financial vulnerability and improving family welfare. Harmonious interactions between husbands and wives can reduce financial vulnerability and improve family welfare. Conversely, high financial vulnerability can disrupt a family's objective welfare if not properly managed. The conclusion is the need to improve financial literacy, create a good financial management strategy, and maintain open and harmonious communication between husband and wife to reduce financial vulnerability and improve the welfare of sandwich-generation families.

Abstract

Elderly are frequently encountered with various problems such as low social support, self-efficacy, and financial stress, affecting quality of life. Therefore, this research aimed to analyze the influence of social support, self-efficacy, and financial stress on the quality of life of the elderly in Tidore Kepulauan. A cross-sectional research design was used, and data were obtained from interviews with 200 retired and non-retired elderly respondents. The data analysis also used descriptive and inference methods using the SPSS 25.0 program. The results showed that the majority of elderly retirees received high levels of social support, while 60% of non-retired elderly experienced low social support. This research further revealed that eight out of ten had moderate self-efficacy. Financial stress for all elderly was low because social and financial support was high. The quality of life of the retired elderly was better than that of their counterparts due to their high income. Elderly employment, years of education, and income positively correlated with quality of life, suggesting that higher education and income led to better quality of life. Additionally, the regression test results showed that social support had a significant positive effect, and financial stress had a substantial negative impact on the quality of life of retired and non-retired elderly. This implied that higher social support and lower financial stress led to higher quality of life for both groups.

Abstract

Children who are left by their parents who work outside the region or abroad as migrant workers will face various well-being problems. This requires a further study to explore the well-being of left-behind children of migrant workers' families in Indonesia, both circular migrant workers and international migrant workers. This study aimed to analyze left-behind children's subjective well-being condition and its relation to family-based social capital and social support that children of migrant worker families perceive. This study is expected to be an initial finding to direct further studies related to strengthening the nuclear family system for families of migrant workers who can optimize the left-behind children's well-being of families of migrant workers. This research was conducted in Juntinyuat, Limbangan, and Dadap Villages, Juntinyuat District, Indramayu Regency. The sampling technique used snowball sampling with samples of children aged 12-18 years from families of migrant workers, both circular and international. The total respondents were 120 children whose data were collected through a self-administered method. The study found that left-behind children whose mothers worked as international migrant workers were more vulnerable to their well-being than other left-behind children. The role of family-based social capital and social support as components in strengthening the nuclear family system of migrant worker families is discussed further in this article

Abstract

Family interactions are needed in disasters because they play an important role in strengthening the emotional bonds between family members. In husband-wife interaction, different family roles and functions make couples feel complementary. This study aims to analyze the influence of socioeconomics, religiosity, and coping strategies on the interaction of husband and wife families of earthquake survivors in the Cianjur district. The study population was families of earthquake survivors in Cianjur Regency. The research sample was selected using a stratified non-proportional random sampling technique based on lightly damaged and heavily damaged houses. Respondents in the study were the wives of earthquake survivors in Cianjur Regency, with 200 respondents. Data processing and analysis used Microsoft Excel, Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) 25.0 for descriptive analysis, and Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) for influence analysis. The results showed high religiosity, spousal interaction involvement, and high satisfaction. Coping strategies, frequency of husband and wife interaction, and potential conflict between husband and wife are in the medium category. This study shows that husband and wife interaction is positively influenced by husband and wife's education, age of marriage, family income-expenses, and religiosity and negatively influenced by husband and wife's age. In addition, religiosity also has a positive effect on coping strategies. This study implies that families of disaster survivors are expected to increase family religiosity to improve husband and wife interactions. Local governments are advised to conduct adequate education for community readiness to face disasters.

Abstract

Abstract

The decline in people's income causes their financial prosperity. This can occur due to a lack of public awareness in managing finances for the future or a lack of interest in investing. This research aims to analyze the influence of financial literacy (knowledge, attitudes and behavior) on investment interest. This research is a quantitative descriptive study involving 205 respondents who met the criteria, namely adults and not yet invested. Sampling was carried out using voluntary sampling techniques from people who were willing to become respondents. The data collected is primary data obtained directly from respondents by filling out an online questionnaire. The research results show that the respondents' financial knowledge is in the low category, while the respondents' financial attitudes and behavior are in the medium category. The investment interest of all respondents is in the low category. The results of the analysis also show that investment interest is directly influenced by financial knowledge and financial attitudes. Financial knowledge has an indirect influence on investment interest, namely through financial attitudes. It is hoped that the public can increase their financial literacy and interest in investing through socialization, advocacy and mentoring programs.
