Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of climate change (temperature, humidity, wind speed, rainfall, and rainy days) on environmental-based diseases (DHF and ARI) in Palu City in 2015-2020. This study uses a quantitative method with an ecological study design. The sampling technique used total sampling where the samples were all cases of DHF and ARI from the Palu City Health Office and climate data from the Mutiara Palu Meteorological Station from 2015-2020. Data analysis using multiple linear regression test. The results of the study for the incidence of DHF showed, partially temperature (0.384 > 0.05), wind speed (0.873 > 0.05), rainfall (0.868 > 0.05). 0.05) and rainy days (0.608 > 0.05) had no effect on the incidence of DHF because the significance value was greater than 0.05. Simultaneously the test results obtained are (0.628 > 0.05), meaning that there is no significant effect between climate change and the incidence of DHF in Palu City because the F test results show a significance value greater than 0.05. The incidence of ARI shows that part there is a significant effect of temperature and humidity on the incidence of ARI with the same significant value (0.00 < 0.05) and positive (+) pattern, and there is a significant effect of wind speed and rainfall on the incidence of ARI with the same significant value (0.00 < 0.05) but with a negative pattern. The conclusion is that there is a significant effect of climate change on the incidence of ARI.

Abstract

To identify the determinants of risk for type 2 diabetes mellitus among the community at the Birobuli Community Health Center. Type of quantitative research with a case-control approach at a confidence level of 95%. The sample size was taken using the Slovin formula with a result of 76 people and a 1:1 ratio and using gender matching with a total sample of 152 people. Sampling was done using the purposive sampling technique. The data source used secondary data in the form of medical records and primary data in the form of interviews using questionnaires measuring physical activity, unhealthy eating patterns, and sleep quality with the criteria that a doctor diagnosed the respondent as suffering from Type 2 DM and not suffering from other types of Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Data analysis used the odds ratio test, the results showed that physical activity (OR=4.455 and CI=2.250-8.819), unhealthy eating patterns (OR=3.145 and CI=1.616-6.120), sleep quality (OR=5.444 and CI= 2,703 10,966), and dyslipidemia (OR=4,287 and CI=2,121-8,667) are determinants of the risk of Type 2 DM. It is suggested that health workers should improve health services at each Integrated Development Post (known as POSBINDU), an integrated monitoring and early detection activity for NCD risk factors (heart and blood vessel disease, diabetes, acute obstructive pulmonary disease, and cancer) as well as disorders due to accidents and acts of domestic violence which are managed by the community through integrated guidance, meanwhile, provide education on healthy lifestyles to overcome the incidence of DM

Abstract

Malaria remains a major public health concern in many regions, despite global efforts toward its elimination. This study systematically reviews malaria elimination strategies, emphasizing the role of surveillance, vector control, and community based interventions. Using a comprehensive literature review, data from PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were analyzed to assess epidemiological trends, intervention effectiveness, and persisting challenges. Findings indicate that active surveillance programs and integrated vector control measures have significantly contributed to malaria reduction in countries such as China, El Salvador, and Rwanda. However, human mobility, climate variability, and drug resistance continue to pose challenges, particularly in malaria endemic regions. To address these barriers, the study underscores the necessity of strengthening health systems, enhancing cross border collaborations, and leveraging emerging technologies for real time disease monitoring. Policymakers must tailor interventions based on regional epidemiological patterns and promote greater community engagement in malaria control efforts. Future research should focus on refining stratification models, assessing novel vector control strategies, and examining the long term sustainability of malaria elimination initiatives. By implementing targeted, evidence based approaches, malaria elimination can be accelerated, bringing the world closer to the goal of eradication.
