Abstract

Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pendampingan belajar kepada siswa-siswa Sekolah Dasar Insan Mulia pada masa pandemic covid-19. Virus Corona merupakan salah satu kondisi krisis saat ini yang sedang mendunia. Tingkat penularan yang tinggi menjadi salah satu faktor keresahan masyarakat di dunia. Pada masa pandemi tentu menimbulkan berbagai masalah-masalah dari berbagai kondisi, salah satunya adalah dalam bidang pendidikan. Berkenaan dengan hal ini, para orang tua serta siswa kurang memenuhi kebutuhan pembelajaran dikarenakan proses belajar jarak jauh yang diterapkan oleh pemerintah tidak dapat berjalan dengan maksimal. Terkendalanya masalah teknis serta gawai yang kurang memadai berdampak pada kualitas kegiatan pembelajaran yang kurang efektif. Maka dari itu perlu adanya pendampingan belajar terdapat siswa terutama Sekolah Dasar Insan Mulia Jimbaran. Kegiatan pengabdian ini menawarkan program pendampingan belajar siswa melalui program Fun English Learning. Melalui program ini siswa, guru dan orang tua mendapatkan kebermanfaatan mengenai teknik dan metode pembelajaran yang tidak membosankan sehingga mengurangi perasaan psikologis siswa yang jenuh selama mengikuti pembelajaran online atau jarak jauh selama ini. Kegiatan ini juga menghasilkan modul dan video edukasi pembelajaran yang dapat dimanfaatkan siswa, guru dan orang tua walaupun program pendampingan ini sudah berakhir sehingga dapat digunakan sebagai sumber belajar dikemudian hari.

Abstract

Language is a highly elaborated signaling system. It serves various functions in communication, it is used to share ideas, convey feelings and emotions, etc. The researchers are interested to uncover more on how people use language in terms of its variety and lexical in one of the popular social media networking platforms that we all know as Facebook. Based on the aforementioned background of the study, the problem of the research can be formulated as follows: (1) what are the figurative languages used in Facebook posts by female and male Facebook users? (2) How are the emotional lexical varieties e.g. used in Facebook posts? Method of research is a procedure needed to do the research better. In this case, method of research covers data source, data collection and data analysis. The data of this research have been taken from facebook profile, it is as an online social networking website where people can create profiles, share information such as photos and quotes about themselves, and respond or link to the information posted by others. The method that used in collecting data is method of library research. They are collected by reading the Facebook user’s post, by underlining and note taking as well.The data analysis is the last step in this process of writing this research. The analysis is done by descriptive method. To make the analysis clearer, all of examples are completed with explanation. Referring to the first research problem, there are some figurative languages used by the Facebook users such as, Simile (female 1 or 4.3% and male 0%), Metaphor (female 4 or 17.3% and male 0%),, Personification (female 3 or 1.3% and male 1% or 4.3%),, Hyperbole (female 4 or 17.3% and male 1 or 4.3%), and Idiom (female 3 or 13% and male 0%),. Furthermore, in regards to the second problem that is emotional lexical used by the Facebook Users, we could mention that both the Augmentatives (female 3 or 13% and male 1 or 4.3%), and Euphemisms (female 1 or 4.3% and male 1 or 4.3%), are used in the Facebook postsKeywords: Figurative, lexical variety, Facebook, Post

Abstract

The aims of this research is to analyse about the differences of emotional lexicon used by male and female communication in South Kuta-Bali when they used Balinese language in their daily interaction. The scope of male and female is closely related to the social behavior which includes the social identity of male and female in society and this becomes the basis of how the language is used in this context of social. This research is interested to uncover more how people use language in terms of expressing their emotional in social interaction. This study is a sociolinguistic approach used the theory from Hickey, Raymon (2010). The data source in this study is the south Kuta community who use Balinese language in social interactions. The Data collection is done by observation, interview, recording and note taking and descriptive qualitative method is applied to analyze the data. The result of the analysis found that the emotional lexical is used by the male and female in their social interaction, it could mention that both Augmentatives and Euphemisms is used by male and female in their social interaction however the augmentative is mostly used by female in informal occasion. Balinese female often used prohibition instead of imperative in expressing her idea about ordering someone to do something. In the other hand, the male directly used imperative sentence in ordering something. He usually does not use many awkwardness to say his point in a conversation. This may be considered that the male often go to the straight point when expressing his idea. Keywords: Emotional Lexicon, Male and Female

Abstract

This study focuses to investigate students’ motivation in studying English during Covid-19 Pandemic, whether they had intrinsic or extrinsic motivation. This research was a survey method and the technique sampling used in this study was random sampling. Furthermore, the instrument used questionnaire to collect the data. The questionnaire consists of 20 questions in which question 1-10 are questions for intrinsic motivation. The question 11-20 are extrinsic motivation. The result of this study shows that the total mean score of intrinsic motivation is higher than the total mean score of extrinsic motivation 4.20 > 3.39. It means that first semester of English students at Faculty of Foreign Language, Mahasaraswati Denpasar University had the higher intrinsic motivation than extrinsic motivation in learning English during Covid-19 Pandemic. In other words, the motivation to learn English that comes from inside students was higher than the motivation comes from outside students. Abstract

The existence of advertisement cannot be separated from a verbal and nonverbal signs; this case also appeared in education advertisement, especially for submission new university student that used by the college as a form of promotion. A good advertisement will consider the use of verbal and nonverbal sign, so that, the prospective students understand the meaning of signs that will be transmitted by the advertiser. The common phenomenon is about the ability of people in understanding the advertisement. The prospective students sometimes difficult catch the meaning of the advertisement. This study is a semiotic research by using advertisement of submission new students in Indonesia as a data source. This study was conducted to find out the types of signs and the meaning behind the series of a sign who appeared in the advertisement, so that it can be known whether advertisement have used a sign in accordance or not. In an effort to data collection, observation with note taking technique was applied in methodology. Then data were analyzed qualitatively using the theory of semiotic by Barthes (1998), theory of meaning by Leech (1974) and several supporting theory such as theory from Leech (1966) about English Advertising, Pierce (2007) about the sign and images and theory proposed by Cazanave (2000) about the color. The data presented in the form of formal and non-formal. The results of the analysis found that these advertisements have been using a verbal and visual sign in well proportioned. Verbal sign consist of linguistic features such as the used of verb and adjective dominantly in lexical choice. There were four types of sentence structure found namely declarative, interrogative, imperative and exclamative sentence. It also used figurative language and abbreviation which has a correlation with the context. Besides the conceptual meaning to give information, from the sign there was also hidden message behind it. Visual sign consist of symbol, icon, index and color that make different reaction for every advertisement. These signs have important role in conveying the purposes of advertiser such as to persuade, command and give some information to public. It can be said that the use of verbal and visual aspects in these advertisement are in a right combination.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine Face-threatening Act and the politeness strategies used by the community in daily communication. There is another intention or meaning behind the speaker's speech.. Therefore, pragmatic studies can determine and analyze this language study. The politeness strategy is a pragmatic study conducted to respect the interlocutor in communication. Face threatening is an act that threatens a person's face. Any face threatening that occurs regularly in daily interactions is often proposed and justified by politeness. Data in this study are the interaction of the Singaraja community. Data in this interaction are collected and analyzed qualitatively based on a theory proposed by Brown and Levinson (1987) about Face-threatening Act which is often abbreviated as FTA. Based on the results of data analysis shows that there are two types of face threatening act found, namely: Positive Face-threatening Act and Negative Face-threatening Act. In carrying out, four politeness strategies were found in social interaction, namely; First, do the FTA directly (on record); Second, do the FTA indirectly (off record); Third, use a positive politeness strategy, and Fourth use a negative politeness strategy.

Abstract

ABSTRAK                Desa Adat Serangan merupakan salah satu desa yang berada di Kecamatan Denpasar Selatan, Bali.Desa Adat Serangan memiliki potensi yang sangat kuat untuk menjadi desa wisata karena didukung oleh pesona alam dan nilai-nilai sosial budaya sebagai destinasi wisata yang maju seiring dengan kemajuan destinasi pariwisata sekitarnya.Dalam menyukseskan hal tersebut, tidak dapat dipungkiri bahwa Bahasa adalah salah satu aspek yang harus dikuasai, karena bahasa merupakan sarana dalam berkomunikasi dan kenyataan dilapangan tidak semua kelompok kerja dapat berbicara dengan menggunakan bahasa Inggris yang komunikatif, salah satunya kelompok penyedia jasa transportasi yang dikenal dengan sebutan “Serangan Transport. Tujuan dari pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian di Desa ini untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris kelompok kerja “Serangan Transport” agar lebih komunikatif.Kegiatan pengabdian fokus pada kegiatan pelatihan bahasa Inggrisdengan materi yang disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan komunikasi kelompokdan metode pengajaran yang disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan kelompok “Serangan Transport”. Diharapkan dari pelatihan ini, dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris para penyedia jasa transportasi agar lebih komunikatif dalam berkomunikasi dengan tamu asing yang tentunya akan berdampak pada keberhasilan pihak desa menjadikan Desa Adat Serangan menjadi Desa Wisata Bahari. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan di desa Serangan adalah metode ceramah dan diskusi yang fokus pada kegiatan pelatihan bahasa Inggris untuk kelompok sasaran yaitu kelompok kerja “Serangan Transport” di desa Serangan. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi dari masing masing peserta pelatihan, menunjukan bahwa beberapa peserta mendapatkan nilai baik dan sebagian lainnya mendapatkan nilai yang sangat baik.Sehingga dapat dikatakan bahwa peserta pelatihan dinilai telah mampu mengikuti dan memahami materi – materi yang diberikan dalam pelatihan bahasa Inggris ini. Kata Kunci: Pelatihan, Bahasa Inggris, Serangan, Desa Wisata, Kelompok Transport  ABSTRACT                Serangan Village is one of the villages in South Denpasar, Bali. This village was located in an island called Serangan Island which was parted from the main island. This village has a great potential to be a tourist village and becoming a flourishing tourist destination which is not inferior to the other destinations since it is supported by the enchanment of its nature and the socio – cultural values. In succeeding this, it cannot be denied that mastering English language is a very important aspect because language is an equipment to communicate,but the fact is not all of the team works have the fluency in spoken English. One of them is the transportation team work called ‘Serangan Transport”.The aim of having this community service in the village, peculiarly in this transportation team work,is to increase the competence in using communicative English. The activities of this community service are focused on the communication needs and the method of teaching the language which is suitable for the team work activities.It was expected that through this course, the English language ability of this team work is increasing, in order to be more communicative when having the conversations with foreign tourists.  This certainly will give influences to the success of forming the Serangan village as the nautical tourist village. The method that used in this program is explanation and discussing focused to larning English in communication for the team work in Serangan village. Based on the result of the evaluation shown that some of the members have got good value and some another got the best value. Abstract

Gianyar merupakan salah satu kabupaten di Bali yang menjadi pusatnya kesenian Salah satu desa di Kabupaten Gianyar yaitu desa Batubulan, terkenal dengan desa produksi seni patung kayu, namun kemampuan ini tidak dapat digunakan secara maksimal karena tidak didukung oleh kemampuan berkomunikasi Bahasa Inggris yang baik. Melihat fenomena tersebut, kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini menyasar kelompok pemahat patung kayu di desa Batu Bulan Gianyar dengan memberikan pelatihan bahasa Inggris. Pelatihan dilakukan selama delapan kali pertemuan. Materi ajar yang diberikan adalah memberikan saran, memberikan pujian, mendeskripsikan benda (patung), memberikan penawaran. Materi ajar yang telah disusun kemudian diaplikasikan dalam kegiatan pealtihan bahasa dan untuk megetahui keefektivannya dilakukan evaluasi di akhir pelatihan. Hasil evaluasi peserta pelatihan sangat baik karena peserta mampu meraih nilai dengan nilai rata-rata 87. Metode pengajaran yang tepat merupakan salah satu tolak ukur dalam memotivasi peserta pelatihan untuk mengikuti kegiatan pelatihan bahasa Inggris yang dilaksanakan. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah direct Method yang dikombinasikan dengan drill.

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan di Desa Guwang, Kecamatan Sukawati, Kabupaten Gianyar. Dari hasil analisis situasi dan permasalahan yang dihadapi mitra, tim pengabdi memberi solusi guna memperbesar kesempatan bagi para komunitas pemandu wisata freelance di daerah sasaran untuk meningkatkan kompetensi dalam berkomunikasi di depan umum. Solusi yang ditawarkan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mitra dalam berbicara di depan umum adalah dengan pelatihan public speaking. Hasil yang diperoleh adalah: (1) Respon positif dan antusias dari peserta pelatihan, (2) Meningkatnya kemampuan dalam melakukan komunikasi di depan umum sebagai pemandu wisata, (3) Meningkatknya rasa percaya diri dan bersedia mengambil resiko dalam berpartisipasi kepada wisatawan. (4) Meningkatnya kosakata, tatabahasa, pengucapan dan pelafalan. (5) Bertambahnya kemampuan peserta pelatihan dalam berkomunikasi secara lisan baik secara individu/monolog maupun secara berpasangan (6) Meningkatkanya kemampuan peserta pelatihan dalam berkomunikasi dengan mitra tutur dalam situasi yang dinamis dan menyenangkan/ tidak membosankan. Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan untuk meningkatkan kreativitas masyarakat dalam upaya pencegahan penyebaran covid-19 secara klinis. Permasalahan yang terjadi secara umum adalah kurangnya sosialisasi secara langsung terhadap masyarakat tentang upaya penanggulangan Covid-19, kurangnya pemahaman masyarakat dalam pemanfaatan bahan – bahan alami pembuatan hand sanitizer. Adapun program kerja yang diberikan untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut yaitu, membuat desain papan poster bersama masyarakat dan memberi informasi pencegahan penyebaran Covid-19 serta memasangnya di area terbuka serta memberi pelatihan membuat hand sanitizer menggunakan bahan alami bersama masyarakat dan membagikannya kepada seluruh masyarakat. Pengabdian ini berlokasi di Desa Dauh Puri Kaja. Pelaksanaan program kerja tersebut menggunakan metode pelatihan dan praktik secara langsung. Hasil dari kegiatan ini mampu menjadikan masyarakat sasaran lebih aktif serta kreatif dalam menanggulangi penyebaran Covid-19, menambah wawasan masyarakat saat berpergian keluar rumah dengan adanya pemasangan papan poster dan pemanfaatan bahan – bahan alami untuk pembuatan hand sanitizer.
