Abstract

This study focus on the external conflict the minor character faces in “The Martian” movie. External conflict occurs between the character and something outside of himself. External conflicts are divided into three: a conflict between a man, a conflict between man and society, and a conflict between man and nature. This study aims to find out what external conflict the minor character face in the movie faces and how they resolve the conflict. The data for this study were taken from the movie "The Martian" and the screenplay using note-taking techniques. The data were analyzed using qualitative research methods. The theory used is from Kenney (1966:19) and Rahim (2002:81-84). Based on the analysis, found man against man happens mostly in the movie. Further, for handling conflict the main character found mostly is dominating, from 5 types of conflict management: Integrating, obliging, dominating, avoiding, and compromising.

Abstract

This research aims to examine discourse components on the dynamics of female stereotype in texts. This research uses data taken from the Narrative text of an English textbook specifically designed for elementary school students in Indonesia. Books are considered a valuable source of scientific inquiry. This research uses a combination of data analysis techniques and field methods, especially by observations and interviews. The data collection strategy used in this research includes the use of questionnaires, interviews, and documentation of language forms contained in narrative texts in textbooks. The findings of this research show there are some aspects of discourse on the dynamics of female representation in students’ texts book, which include microstructure, macrostructure, and superstructure of the text. Microstructure includes grammatical components such as references, substitution, and conjunctions. The macrostructures are contained in context, circumstances, and culture that successfully represent women from different points of view. The superstructure of the text include orientation, complication and resolution. Data analysis reveals the prevalence of female stereotypes as evidenced by micro, macro, and superstructure.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the types and meaning of code mixing used by Raymond Chin in Merry Riana youtube channel entitled “Muda, Pintar, Kaya, Ternyata Ini Sisi Lain Raymon Friends Of Merry Riana”.This study used descriptive qualitative method for analysis the data. Several techniques were used to collect the data. The first step,the writer downloading the video from Merry Riana YouTube channel, second, the writer watching and listening the video with carefully and repeatedly,third,transcribing the conversation into text, fourth, finding the code mixing found in the video, and finally, the researcher classify the categories of code mixing based on the theory from Muysken (2000). Based on the analysis, this study found the total frequency of code mixing used by Raymond Chin is 176, with 80 from insertion code mixing, 79 from alternation code mixing, and 17 from congruent lexicalization code mixing. The type of code mixing that is most widely used by Raymond Chin in Mery Riana YouTube channel entitled “Muda,Pintar, Kaya ,Ternyata Ini Sisi Lain Raymon|Friends Of Merry Riana” is insertion code mixing. In addition, the reason of code mixing Talking About a Particular Topic in 94 utterance following by Intention of Clarifying the Speech Content For Interlocutors with 82 occurrences. Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan sosialisasi dan pelatihan kepada masyarakat Desa Munggu dalam pemanfaatan Ecobrick untuk mewujudkan WTC (Waste to Create) di TPS3R Jagat Lestari Desa Munggu. Desa Munggu terletak di Kecamatan Mengwi, Kabupaten Badung, Provinsi Bali. Desa Wisata Munggu terdiri dari 13 Banjar Dinas, 3 Desa Adat, 17 Banjar Adat dan 2 Lembaga Persubakan.  Terdapat beberapa permasalahan dalam pengelolaan sampah khususnya sampah non-organik. Pengolahan sampah non-organik yang berupa sampah plastik masih belum maksimal karena petugas TPS3R di Desa Munggu belum memiliki pengolahan sampah plastik secara mandiri. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, salah satu program kerja pengabdian masyarakat di bidang membangun desa yaitu “Pemanfaatan Sampah Non- Organik (Botol Plastik) dalam pembuatan Ecobrick di TPS3R Desa Munggu”. Beberapa metode yang dilaksanakan dalam kegiatan PKM ini adalah melakukan analisis situasi oleh tim pengabdian terlebih dahulu dengan melakukan observasi lapangan ke lokasi mitra sasaran yaitu TPS3R Jagat Lestari Desa Munggu. Kegiatan dilanjutkan dengan melakukan pemilahan sampah non-organik di TPS3R Jagat Lestari Desa Munggu tahap 1 dan tahap 2. Hasil kegiatan ini adalah adanya peningkatan kesadaran pentingnya melakukan pemilahan sampah berbasis sumber. Kegiatan ini diterapkan dengan baik melalui pendampingan secara langsung dalam melakukan pemilahan sampah non-organik di TPS3R. Selain itu masyarakat dapat secara mandiri mengolah sampah dari botol plastik menjadi Ecobrick untuk menekan penumpukan sampah non-organik di TPS3R Jagat Lestari Desa Munggu. Berdasarkan hasil kegiatan yang telah dilakukan maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembuatan ecobrick merupakan salah satu metode yang dapat digunakan untuk mengatasi permasalahan sampah plastik. Program pengabdian masyarakat di TPS3R Desa Munggu, Kecamatan Mengwi, Kabupaten Badung ini berjalan dengan baik sesuai dengan proker yang telah direncanakan.

Abstract

The aims of this study is to find out and analyzed about students influences of Computer-assisted assessment (CAA) It is the case study and field research of one school in Nusa Dua Badung-Bali. The data sources chosen in this study were several high schools that carried out online examinations at Nusa Dua Vocational high school Bali-Indonesia. Data collection is done by random sampling from data sources, observation, interviews, recording, and note taking. Distribution of questionnaires was also carried out to strengthen data analysis. Data is analyzed based on the formulation of the problem and the study of theory that has been, then analyzed in qualitative description. The descriptive study used paper-based surveys and interviews for data collection. To obtain information about the students influences of Computer-assisted assessment (CAA). Based on our review and study result, there are some influences that found. The Computer-assisted assessment (CAA) systematics is held with the aim that students become more critical and independent in solving the questions given.

Abstract

This study investigated the students attitude during distance learning at SMP Angkasa Kuta - Bali. The impact of the corona virus outbreak (Covid-19) has also been felt by the education sector. Studying at home is a good way to break the spread of the corona virus. Distance learning is carried out with the supervision of a teacher and parents. This is what distinguishes distance learning from independent learning. In distance learning activity, one of the way to communicate each other is by sending text message. Most of the students are not accustomed to use written language well in formal communication. This activities requires them to text the message word by word to their teachers. Studying attitude in language helps all stakeholders in various ways. This can investigate effective student attitudes with the teacher using good language. In addition students can be confident, learn politeness in language with different learning styles. Students have their own language attitude in communication. In addition, they also have diverse views about the learning process. The data sources chosen in this study were the students of SMP Angkasa, Kuta-Bali. The analysis is done by descriptively method. To make the analysis clearer, all of data were completed with explanation and supported by the cart to show percentage of the data. The theory from Richard, Platt, & Platt (1992) about Language Attitude used to analyze the various kinds of language attitudes. This study used questioner to get some reason of the language used by the students as well.  This study found that there are two classifications of language attitudes used by students in communication using written language. Both Language Attitudes of students in terms of their Behavioral and Language attitude in term of their emotional are found. Based on this classification, student prefer use negative language attitude in their respond to the teacher. The reason why some students prefer use negative language attitude in their respond to the teacher have been found by the result of questioner.

Abstract

This study analyzes the reflection of liberal feminism values in the characterization of Merida in the movie Brave. Feminism, particularly liberal feminism, emphasizes individual freedom, equal rights, and personal autonomy, making it relevant to Merida’s character, who opposes traditional norms and refuses an arranged marriage. This research employs the liberal feminism theory proposed by Tong (2008) to identify the values of equality and liberty in Merida’s character. The analysis also uses Boggs and Petrie’s (2018) theory of characterization, focusing on four aspects: appearance, dialogue, external actions, and the reactions of other characters. Data were collected using observation and note-taking techniques by watching the movie and reading the script. The findings were analyzed qualitatively by identifying scenes and dialogues that portray liberal feminist values. The results show that Merida represents liberal feminism through her resistance to patriarchal traditions, her fight for autonomy, and her assertion of individual rights. This research is expected to contribute theoretically to studies in literature and gender, especially in exploring feminist themes in film, and practically to help readers recognize and understand the importance of equality and freedom in society. Abstract

This study examines person deixis in Michael Learns to Rock’s 1999 soft rock ballad Out of the Blue. While prior research has explored deixis in speeches, religious discourse, and talk shows, its role in song lyrics particularly emotional ballads remains underexplored. The song’s official lyrics served as the data source. Using Levinson’s (1983) typology for classification and Halliday and Hasan’s (1985) context of situation for interpretation, the research employed a qualitative approach involving careful listening, close reading, and systematic note-taking. The analysis revealed 38 instances of person deixis, primarily singular first- and second-person pronouns, with no plural or third-person forms. This distribution reflects the song’s intimate, direct communication and emphasis on personal emotions. Findings indicate that in lyrical contexts, person deixis enhances emotional closeness, fosters a direct connection between singer and listener, and shapes narrative perspective. The study demonstrates that deixis functions not only grammatically but also artistically, contributing to emotional impact and audience engagement. These insights expand understanding of deixis in non-traditional discourse and suggest its potential value in linguistic, literary, and musicological studies, as well as in language teaching using authentic song materials.

Abstract

The study concerned with the code mixing found in Travel Secrets Video YouTube Channel Episode 40. The study aims to identify the types of code mixing found on Travel Secrets Video YouTube Channel Episode 40 as well as to describe the reason of code mixing found on Travel Secrets Video YouTube Channel Episode 40. The data were taken from Travel Secrets Video YouTube Channel Episode 40 on the video “Penjelasan Boy William Dua Kali Gagal Menikah” by applying the theory types of code mixing by Hoffman (1991) and reasons of code mixing by Hoffman (1991). The analysis was done by applying descriptive qualitative and quantitative method with observation method and noted taking technique to collect the data. This study shows that there are three types of code mixing found and three reasons of code mixing found. The study concludes that intra-sentential code mixing is the most frequently used in types of code mixing and talking about particular topic is the most frequently used in reasons of code mixing. By doing code mixing, it is easier to build a sense of solidarity between the host and the guest rather than using only one language and making the conversation more attractive.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to find out the types of flouting maxims that occur in the utterances of the characters in Aladdin movie. The data were analyzed by using the theory proposed by Cutting (2002). In analyzing the data, the method that was used in this study was by using a descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected by downloading the movie and the script. The result of this study showed that four types of flouting maxim were performed by the characters in Aladdin Movie, those are flouting maxim of quantity, flouting maxim of quality, flouting maxim of relevance and flouting maxim of manner.
