Abstract

Global data for 2018 shows that 149 million children worldwide or the proportion of toddlers experiencing stunting is 21.9%. The incidence of recurrent infectious diseases is a direct factor causing stunting, where this factor is closely related to unsanitary sanitation conditions and the behavior of washing hands with soap. This research was conducted with the aim of finding the relationship between washing hands with soap, clean water facilities and ownership of healthy latrines with the incidence of stunting in toddlers. This study used an analytic observational design and a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used random sampling with a total of 100 samples. Data were collected directly from respondents through interviews and observations using questionnaires and observation sheets. Data were analyzed using the chi square test. The results of the study found that there was a relationship between clean water facilities and the incidence of stunting in Siau Dalam Village, with a p value = 0.000. There is no relationship between ownership of healthy latrines and the incidence of stunting in Siau Dalam Village with a p value = 0.115. It is hoped that the puskesmas will be more active in role health education with creative methods related to making and utilizing healthy latrines and it is important to use clean water which are aspects that are considered in the triggering factors for stunting. Keywords: Stunting, clean water facilities, Letrine.

Abstract

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major contributor to illness and death. COPD can result in the obstruction of airflow and disturbance of the respiratory system. These symptoms have a tendency to be enduring and progressively worse. In Indonesia, the number of persons affected by COPD is estimated to be 9.2 million, with smokers being the primary cause of COPD cases. Hence, the objective of this study was to determine the risk variables linked to the occurrence of COPD among smokers in Bandung City in 2022. This study employed a cross-sectional design, with a sample size of 189 smokers aged over 40 years in Bandung City. The participants were selected via total sampling. This study employed secondary research methodology, utilising chi-square and binary regression analysis for data analysis. The findings indicated that the prevalence of high-risk COPD cases in Bandung City in 2022 was 12.7%. An relationship was seen between age, smoking intensity, namely 20-30 packs of cigarettes per year, and level of physical activity. After controlling for age, physical activity, and degree of smoking, the primary cause of the increased risk of COPD was the consumption of 20-30 packs of cigarettes per year (PR= 11.34; 95% CI = 1.65 to 77.67). This study highlights the significance of lifestyle interventions, such as smoking cessation programmes and CERDIK's behaviours, in managing COPD.

Abstract

There has been a reduction in prevalence of stunting nationally, the prevalence is still high in several regions, including Kerinci Regency. This study focused on identifying hotspots for stunting cases in Kerinci Regency, Jambi Province, utilizing spatial autocorrelation analysis. The research aimed to pinpoint specific regions with high prevalence of stunting in 2019, 2020, and 2021, highlighting the importance of tailored interventions at the village level to combat stunting effectively. This research utilized data on stunting cases sourced from the community-based nutrition recording and reporting system (e-PPGBM) from 2019 to 2021. Spatial autocorrelation analysis was conducted using the global and local indicator for spatial auto correlation (LISA) with village as the analysis unit. This study found the Moran Index values in 2019, 2020, and 2021 were 0.148, 0177, and 0.238 respectively. Hotspots were found in specific regions of the regency in each year, with shifts in distribution patterns observed. In 2019, hotspots were in the southwest region, in 2020 in the central part, and in 2021 in the southwest region. These findings highlight the importance of targeted interventions at the village level to address issues effectively. Continued monitoring and targeted efforts are crucial to address the shifting patterns and improve the overall nutritional status of the population.
