Abstract

Introduction: The response time in handling prehospital emergencies has not been fully optimal so that people still complain about it. Appropriate response time will reduce mortality and morbidity rates so that patient satisfaction can be met. The aim of this study was to describe the emergency response time and its determinants in the Quick Response Team (it is called "Tim Gerak Cepat”) Surabaya.  Methods: This research was a descriptive research design with a cross sectional approach. The population of the study were all nurses in Tim Gerak Cepat (TGC) at the Integrated Command Post Surabaya totaling 126 nurses and a sample of 96 respondents were taken by purposive sampling. The variables were abilities, skills, education, emergency training, length of service, and motivation of nurses as well as the response time in handling emergencies. Collecting data using a questionnaire and presented in descriptive analytics.  Results: The research results showed that the majority of respondents had high abilities (90.6%) and skills (93.8%). The majority of respondents had achieved a third diploma (D3) in nursing (82.3%) and had undergone basic emergency training (88.5%). Furthermore, more than half of the respondents had worked for more than 3 years (68.7%) and showed moderate motivation (51%). In general, the majority of respondents had a response time of ≤ 8 minutes (79.2%). Conclusion: Nurses at TGC Surabaya actually have a good response time. This is supported by high capacity and skills in emergency situations, as well as educational background, including emergency training. But nurses still need to increase self-motivation. Further research can explore further what are the priority determining factors for emergency response time, especially in Surabaya as the 2nd largest city in Indonesia, in order to assist the government in making the best setting and organization at TGC Surabaya.

Abstract

Background: Successful breastfeeding is influenced by various factors, one of which is family support. Support from a husband, mother, or other close family members plays a crucial role in building a mother’s confidence and commitment to exclusive breastfeeding. Lack of emotional, informational, or instrumental support may lead to early weaning or the use of formula milk. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between family support and the success of breastfeeding in the neonatal room of Islam Hospital Surabaya Jemursari. Methods: A cross-sectional design was employed involving 48 postpartum mothers whose neonates were admitted to the neonatal room. Participants were selected using simple random sampling. The independent variable was family support, and the dependent variable was the success of breastfeeding. Data were collected using a validated structured questionnaire assessing the level of family support and breastfeeding outcomes. Statistical analysis was conducted using the Spearman rho correlation test with a significance level of α = 0.05.|Results: Among the 27 respondents who reported successful breastfeeding, the majority received sufficient family support, while a smaller proportion reported low support. Interestingly, among 21 respondents who also reported breastfeeding success, nearly half received less family support. The Spearman rho test yielded a p-value of 0.211, indicating no statistically significant relationship between family support and breastfeeding success (p > 0.05).Conclusion: This study found no significant relationship between family support and breastfeeding success in the neonatal unit. Further research with larger sample sizes and more detailed measurement tools is recommended to explore this relationship further.

Abstract

Background: Islamic boarding schools as educational institutions that teach religious morals as a basis for behavior should be a safe and comfortable place of education for students. There should be no more violence occurring in Islamic boarding schools, but in fact, recently there has been a lot of news about incidents of violence or bullying occurring in Islamic boarding schools. Islamic boarding schools are expected to provide a safe environment for students while fostering religious and moral values. However, incidents of bullying continue to occur within these institutions, highlighting a gap between expected and actual student experiences. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the factors that influence bullying incidents in an Islamic boarding school environment. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at Al-Hidayah Islamic Boarding School, Sidoarjo, involving 109 students selected through simple random sampling (10% of the population). Independent variables included age, gender, school level, length of stay, and peer perception, while the dependent variable was bullying incidence. Data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire and analyzed using multiple linear regression at a significance level of 0.05. Results: The results indicated that 68.8% of respondents were in early adolescence (12–16 years), 60.6% were male, and 52.3% had stayed at the boarding school for over 35 months. Additionally, 68.8% of respondents had negative perceptions of their peers. The regression analysis yielded a significance value of 0.004 (p < 0.05) with an R-square of 15.4%, indicating that all independent variables jointly influenced bullying incidents. Conclusion: Age, gender, school level, length of stay in the boarding school, and peer perceptions collectively influence bullying behavior among students. These findings highlight the need for boarding school administrators to implement policies and interventions that address these contributing factors to reduce bullying prevalence.

Abstract

Background: Women diagnosed with breast cancer often experience emotional distress, leading to a decrease in psychological well-being. Online self-management training during the COVID-19 pandemic is crucial for maintaining psychological well-being, as it is closely related to stress hormone cortisol levels, which play a vital role in boosting the body’s immune system. However, research on self-management strategies for breast cancer patients, particularly regarding psychological aspect and its relationship to cortisol levels during the COVID-19 pandemic, remains limited.Purpose: The purpose of this study was to measure the effectiveness of self-management training on psychological well-being and salivary cortisol levels in breast cancer patients. Methods: This study used a pre-post-test quasi-experimental design with a control group. The participants included 70 breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at a hospital in Malang City, East Java, Indonesia, recruited using simple random sampling. Self-management training using the EDUDARA (Edukasi Kanker Payudara) was administered to the participants in the intervention group for six weeks. Data on wellbeing were collected using the Ryff Psychological Wellbeing Questionnaire, while salivary cortisol levels were measured with the DBD cortisol kit using the competitive ELISA method. SPSS with t-tests was used to analyze the data. Results: The average post-test psychological well-being score in the intervention group was 90.3, while in the control group, it was 82.69. The results of statistical tests showed a significant difference in psychological well-being between the two groups, with the intervention group showing greater improvement after the training. Additionally, the mean salivary cortisol level post-training was 4.531 in the intervention group and 6.169 in the control group (p=0.001). This indicates a greater reduction in cortisol levels in the intervention group after training, showing that participants’ psychological condition following the “EDUDARA” training was better than that of the control group. Conclusion: Self-management training had a positive effect on increasing psychological well-being and decreasing salivary cortisol levels among breast cancer patients. Therefore, structured self-management training for these patients can be used for nursing intervention

Abstract

The prevalence of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) continues to increase globally, including in Indonesia, causing a decrease in quality of life and the risk of serious complications. The Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis) is designed to improve disease management, but its utilization has not been optimal. Self-efficacy is a key factor in encouraging patient participation in health services. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the relationship between self-efficacy and the utilization of Prolanis health services in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Specifically, the objectives of this study include identifying the level of self-efficacy of type 2 DM patients who are members of the Prolanis group and assessing the level of utilization of Prolanis health services by type 2 DM patients. Methods: The study was conducted using a cross-sectional approach at the Lamongan Health Center from March to May 2023. The study sample was 125 DM patients in the Prolanis group who were selected by accidental sampling. The research instrument used a general self-efficacy questionnaire and a questionnaire on utilizing the Prolanis health service system compiled by researchers from the results of a literature review and data analysis using the Spearman Rank test. The study results showed that the majority of respondents, 68%, had high self-efficacy, and 51.2% made good use of Prolanis health services. The results of the Spearman Rank test are p = 0.000 and r = 0.763, meaning that there is a relationship between self-efficacy and the utilization of Prolanis health services for type 2 DM patients. The correlation strength is strong and positive. The conclusion shows that high self-efficacy in type 2 DM patients tends to be better at utilizing Prolanis health services than low self-efficacy.
