Abstract

This article discusses to what extent mathematics teachers do Biblical integration in their class, explores the challenges that mathematics teachers face when they do or want to do Biblical integration, and explores the school’s expectation of Biblical integration for mathematics teachers with more clarity and intentionality. Research was conducted from September until October 2016. The research subjects were the curriculum coordinator, head of the Department of Mathematics, seven mathematics teachers, and 362 senior high students. The data collection techniques that were used were a semi-structured interview, and a questionnaire. The results of the research showed that the school’s expectation is that teachers should be able show how mathematics is capable of expressing truths about God’s work, God’s beauty, and God’s regularity because God created mathematics. All of the mathematics teachers modeled Biblical qualities. The challenges and obstacles that mathematics teachers were confronted with was that they had little time to find Biblical integration material, they did not have enough understanding, they had difficulty doing Biblical integration from the material, and the teachers were afraid that their explanations about Biblical integration would sound forced to students, especially non-Christian students.ABSTRAK BAHASA INDONESIA:  Artikel ini membahas sejauh mana guru matematika melakukan integrasi Alkitabiah di kelasnya, tantangan dan hambatan yang dihadapi oleh guru matematika saat mereka melakukan atau ingin melakukan integrasi Alkitabiah, dan untuk mencari tahu ekspetasi sekolah tentang integrasi Alkitabiah untuk guru matematika dengan lebih jelas dan mempunyai maksud. Abstract

Algebra is one of the most fundamental concepts in learning mathematics and the concept of equality is an essential part of learning algebraic topics. However, many students find this concept difficult to understand. The problem is the difficulty of the content and how to teach it. In order to solve the problem, this paper reviews the use of the theory of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) in teaching the concept of equality. RME is a process of teaching and learning mathematics in a contextual way as mathematics is considered as a human activity. This paper aims to review the use of the RME theory in teaching the concept of equality within the Biblical perspective as the parameter of the implementation for mathematics as one of God’s tools to reveal His glory and wisdom. The method used in this paper was literature review which used literature findings as the resources. According to the literature research, it was found that the main problem in teaching and learning the concept of equality was students’ misconception of equality. The use of the RME theory can help teachers to teach the “equality” concept to help student learn contextually.

Abstract

This research used a qualitative approach with a case study design in a Christian school in Tangerang. The research’s subjects included eight mathematics teachers and 143 students from different classes, each one taught by the eight mathematics teachers. Data collection was based on interviews, observations, and distributing questionnaires. The data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model which consists of three processes: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The research results showed that student negative behaviours included having a low self value in mathematics, saying negative words to classmates, being disrespectful towards the mathematics teachers, abusing the learning environment, and assuming God has no connection with mathematics learning. To redeem student negative behaviours, mathematics teachers at the school gave advice, warnings, consequences, and attempted to be a role model for students. Student responses towards teachers' actions can be grouped into two categories: positive responses: students receive advice, warnings, concequences and repair their negative behaviour and negative responses: students think trivially about advice, warnings, or consequences given by teachers.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus di suatu sekolah Kristen di Tangerang.

Abstract

The purpose of education is to develop the potential of students to become human beings who believe and fear God Almighty, have noble character, are healthy, knowledgeable, capable, creative, independent, and become democratic and responsible citizens. But in practice, much education separates science and faith in God. Christian education allows students to get to know God more and develops the potential of each student according to God's truth and purpose. Mathematics learning should be a tool to bring students to see and admire God as the great Creator. Investigation and discovery in learning mathematics should acknowledge some of God's attributes and allow students to admire the beauty of mathematics and to praise God.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Tujuan pendidikan adalah untuk mengembangkan potensi peserta didik agar menjadi manusia yang beriman dan bertakwa kepada Tuhan Yang Maha Esa, berakhlak mulia, sehat, berilmu, cakap, kreatif, mandiri, dan menjadi warga negara yang demokratis serta bertanggung jawab.

Abstract

Lecturers are human resources who have the main role in higher education. However, as significant assets of higher education, lecturers often indicate a low level of job satisfaction and organizational commitment, which is caused by unprofessional and disproportionate task load division procedures and systems as well as ineffective leadership styles which then lead to the intention of lecturers leaving the organization. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effects of instructional leadership and task load on lecturers’ organizational commitment and job satisfaction. This is an experimental study which uses quantitative methods by using a structured questionnaire that is distributed to 60 lecturers who work at the Dental Faculty of IIK Bhakti Wiyata Kediri. The Partial Least Square (PLS) is used in this study as a statistical tool to test research hypotheses. The findings indicate that instructional leadership has positive effects on organizational commitment (p = 0.297) and job satisfaction (p = 0.301), while task load has negative effects on organizational commitment (p = -0.553) and job satisfaction (p = -0.364). These findings have implications for the importance of the ability of leaders in higher education to be able to manage proportional and fair workload assignments to increase lecturers’ organizational commitment to the organization. The findings also encourage the ability of leaders in higher education to be able to build closer social relationships with lecturers both psychologically and emotionally to understand their level of job satisfaction in order to achieve organizational goals effectively.

Abstract

Prospective teachers must be equipped with creative thinking skills to be able to design innovative mathematics learning media. However, studies on the creativity of prospective teachers are often not comprehensive and tend to focus on only one dimension of creativity. Although the 4P creativity model (Person, Process, Press, Product) provides a comprehensive analytical lens, research that integrates all four dimensions simultaneously in the context of mathematics teacher education is still rare. This study is a qualitative descriptive study that aims to describe and analyze the creativity of prospective mathematics teacher students in developing mathematics learning media. The subjects were eight students of the Mathematics Education study program who were taking the Mathematics Learning Media course and had completed a mathematics learning media development project. Data sources came from students' reflective journals when creating learning media, interview transcripts, and the learning media products that had been created. The collected data were analyzed based on Rhodes' 4P creativity framework: Person, Process, Press, and Product. The product dimension was analyzed descriptively and quantitatively using the Torrance rubric, consisting of four creativity indicators: fluency, flexibility, originality, and development. The Process dimension was analyzed based on Wallas' creative thinking framework: Preparation, Incubation, Illumination, and Verification. The person and press dimensions were then analyzed qualitatively using a thematic analysis approach. The results showed that students with high intrinsic motivation, active involvement in exploring ideas, and the ability to manage technical and time constraints tended to produce more creative and meaningful learning media. The key findings of this study significantly expand and challenge the traditional understanding of the Press dimension. The use of technology, particularly generative AI such as ChatGPT, serves not only as an external tool but also as a digital cognitive environment. AI acts as an interactive, dialogical partner, assisting in brainstorming, developing flowcharts, and solving technical problems, thereby blurring the boundaries between environmental factors (Press) and students' internal thinking processes (Process). This deep integration demonstrates that AI has become an integral part of students' cognitive workflows, implying that the 4P framework in the digital era needs to be viewed as an interconnected and flexible system, rather than as four rigidly separate pillars.    Keywords: creativity, mathematics learning media, creative thinking process, case study, pre-service teachers, artificial intelligence.

Abstract

The problem of academic dishonesty is a common problem in academia, but it is a serious problem that needs to be solved. Academic dishonesty, as the opposite of academic integrity, is the condition where students carryout their academic work (i.e., assignments and tests) dishonestly. From a Christian perspective, when students truly know Christ and have integrity in their lives, problems like academic dishonesty should not exist because students are supposed to live out their Christian values. In the brokenness of this world, these problems still happen even in Christian academic institutions. The purpose of this paper is to examine the factors causing academic dishonesty and other problems resulting from academic dishonesty, determine how to deal with acts of academic dishonesty, and suggest some ways to prevent academic dishonesty. To deal with academic dishonesty, the authors suggest some ways that are adapted from the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Action) theory, also known as The Deming Cycle. Ultimately, helping students act with academic integrity, instead of with academic dishonesty, requires the involvement of everyone in the school, including students and parents.

Abstract

Critical thinking is one of the most important issues in education. However, based on field observation results it is found that students have low critical thinking skills. One reason is that learning activities in the classroom do not foster students’ critical thinking skills. The purpose of this research study to enhance students’ critical skills by implementing the Problem-based Learning (PBL) method. The research subjects were 29 grade 7 students in a junior high school in Manado. The research method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted from September 12 to November 3, 2017. The instruments used were diagnostic tests, pre-tests and post-tests, observation sheets, student interviews, checklists by observers and students, and the researcher’s reflection journal. Data results were analyzed using the descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that the implementation of the PBL method was able to enhance students’ critical thinking skills in learning math with the achievement percentage of students who passed the KKM for pre-test and post-test based on the overall data analysis result from cycle one to two showing an enhancement of 22% on the first indicator, 9% on the third indicator, and 2% on the fourth indicator. The second indicator showed no enhancement amd there was a decrease of 8% on the fifth indicator. Therefore, the PBL method is effective in enhancing students’ critical thinking skills through each stage of the method in the learning process.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Kemampuan berpikir kritis adalah salah satu hal terpenting dalam dunia pendidikan.
