Abstract

This study aims to determine the type and abundance of microplastics in the water and sediment of the Sail River. This study was conducted from January 2024 to April 2024. Sampling was carried out once a month for three months at 3 stations, namely: Station 1 (Jalan Akasia), Station 2 (Jalan Hangtuah), Station 3 (Jalan Sumber Sari). Microplastic samples in water and sediment were analyzed at the Waste Treatment Laboratory of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, University of Riau.. The research results found 4 types of microplastics per station in both water and sediment, with the most common types being fibers in water and fragments in sediment. The total abundance of microplastics in water ranges from 216.67 – 280 particles/m3 and sediment ranges from 4,006.67 – 4,720 particles/kg. It was concluded that there was no difference in the total abundance of microplastics in either water or sediment between the stations studied.

Abstract

Silvofishery education in mangrove ecosystem management aims to integrate aquaculture with mangrove forest preservation and management, fostering a balance between human activities and environmental sustainability within mangrove ecosystems. Residents of Putri Sembilan Village, situated adjacent to the mangrove ecosystem, have the potential to enhance mangrove forest management and sustainability through silvofishery practices. This educational initiative commenced with problem identification through discussions between the community service team and the Forestry Training and Community Empowerment Unit of the Riau Provincial Environment and Forestry Service. The agreed-upon approach involved educating Putri Sembilan Rupat Utara Village residents through lectures and practical tutorials. The educational process included pre-tests, presentations, question-and-answer sessions, interactive discussions, post-tests, and concluded with field practice. The education was well-received by participants, who engaged actively throughout. A key finding was that while most Putri Sembilan Village residents utilize the mangrove ecosystem for educational ecotourism and to mitigate residential land abrasion, there remains a limited understanding of mangrove forest preservation and silvofishery utilization for mangrove crab (Scylla serrata) cultivation. Post-activity evaluation demonstrated that silvofishery education significantly improved residents' understanding of the balance between utilization and conservation. It is recommended that this educational activity be followed up with practical training and assistance in mangrove crab cultivation for community groups dedicated to preserving the Putri Sembilan Rupat Utara Village ecosystem.

Abstract

The snail silvofishery education in Pangkalan Jambi Village aims to equip mangrove management groups in combining mangrove conservation activities with the utilization of its economic value through the cultivation of Cerithidea obtusa snails, in order to create a balance of mangrove ecosystem services to improve the economy of coastal communities. The target group for this education is the “Harapan Bersama” Mangrove Management Group which is one of the fostered groups of PT. Kilang Pertamina Internasional (PT. KPI). The method used is lectures and tutorials as a result of discussions with the CSR team of PT. KPI. The implementation of education begins with the implementation of a pre-test, presentation of materials accompanied by interactive discussions and post-tests. At the end of the activity, a field review was carried out as a candidate for the silvofishery location. The result is that the implementation of this education is very interactive and gets a positive response from the target group who have long struggled to preserve and utilize the mangrove area through several activities, including planting mangrove seedlings and making abrasion prevention tools and producing mangrove products as well as a mangrove educational tourism village. However, this group does not yet know and understand this silvofishery as a form of environmentally friendly mangrove forest preservation and utilization. Post-activity evaluation has proven that this educational activity has increased the understanding of the target group to diversify their activities in the future. The implementation is to practice and assist the snail silvofishery activities in this group

Abstract

Abstract

Microplastics are small pieces of plastic that can pollute the environment. This study aims to determine the types of microplastics in the digestion of freshwater kijing based on different stocking densities and water depths. This research was carried out from February to April 2024. Using the experimental method with a one-factor Group Random Design. Sampling of the kijing was observed after 2 weeks of laying according to the specified depth, and then the abundance of microplastics in the digestion of freshwater kijing was examined. Water quality parameters are measured by temperature, brightness, and pH. The study found five microplastic types: fiber, fragments, films, granules, and pellets. The most common type of microplastic found at all three different depths is the type of film. The microplastic abundance found at all three depths in order is 5.2, 5,4 and 6 particles/ind. From the ANOVA results, the depth has a p-value of 0.00850, which means that the p-value > 0.005 does not show any difference between depth data. While the p-value of the treatment is 0.00084, this means that the p-value of <0.005 is the difference between the treatment data. Treatments consisting of 1kg, 2kg, and 3kg had different abundance data in each treatment. This means that there are significantly different results by the treatment of microplastic abundance data in freshwater mussel

Abstract

Fishing technology has undergone rapid development in response to sustainability challenges; however, a comprehensive global synthesis of its research progress and future directions remains lacking. To address this gap, this study explores global trends and prospects in fishing technology research using an innovative bibliometric approach. A total of 164 Scopus-indexed documents published between 2009 and 2023, authored by 179 researchers across 33 countries, were analyzed. Bibliometric analysis was conducted using the Biblioshiny application in the Bibliometrix R package, complemented by knowledge domain visualization (KDV) to map scientific structures, collaboration networks, and citation patterns. The results indicate an annual publication growth rate of 12.3%, reflecting increasing global interest in fishing technology. China was identified as the most productive country, with the strongest record of international collaboration, while Cooke SJ emerged as the most influential scholar, with a PageRank score of 0.0204 and accounting for 18.25% of global citations. Keyword mapping revealed research hotspots centered on sustainable development, selective fishing gear, and the integration of digital technologies, including artificial intelligence and electronic monitoring. This study concludes that bibliometric synthesis not only provides a strategic overview of global knowledge gaps and thematic evolution but also highlights the critical role of interdisciplinary collaboration and technological innovation in shaping the future of sustainable fisheries management.
