Abstract

ABSTRACTHeavy metals in water can be included in hazardous and toxic materials in high concentrations. Mercury (Hg) and Chromium (Cr) are heavy metals that are dangerous when entering water bodies and will affect aquatic organisms. Microalgae are aquatic organisms that have a significant role as the basis of the food chain, as well as one of the parameters of the fertility level of water which is the primary concern because it has a high risk of being exposed to aquatic organisms such as microalgae. One of the microalgae is Dunaliella sp. This research was conducted to determine the ability of Dunaliella sp. as a condition for biota to test heavy metal toxicity. Observations of the growth of Dunaliella sp. were carried out for 14 days to see the entire growth phase of Dunaliella sp. The results of this study show that there are five life phases of Dunaliella sp., namely the lag phase, the acceleration phase, the exponential phase, the retardation phase, and the death  phase.   Dunaliella sp. qualified  as a test biota for heavy metal toxicity testing according to the Asean-Canada Cooperative Program on Marine Science Phase II. The cell density of  Dunaliella sp. on day four or at the beginning of the exponential phase is 1.36 x 10 6 cells/ ml. It can be seen that the cell density of Dunaliella sp. exceeds the minimum limit (1x106 cells /ml).Keywords : Dunaliella sp., , Exponential, Density  Phytoplankton, Toxicity test

Abstract

ABSTRACTMicroalgae have an important position as primary producers which have the first trophic level in the food chain of aquatic ecosystems. One of them is Dunaliella sp. Lead and cadmium are non-essential heavy metals that are toxic to aquatic organisms. The purpose of this study was to determine the growth of Dunaliella sp. for heavy metal toxicity tests. Observations were made for 14 days to see all growth phases of Dunaliella sp. The results showed that there were 4 growth phases of Dunaliella sp. namely the lag phase, the exponential phase, the stationary phase and the dying phase. The  microalgae Dunaliella sp. met the requirements for heavy metal toxicity test on day 4 or in the exponential phase and the minimum limit for the cell density of the test biota was (1 x106 cells/ml) according to ACCPMS -11 (1995).Keywords : Dunaliella sp., Toxicity test,  Exponential phase, Phytoplankton,       Heavy Metals

Abstract

Seasonal floods in Lake Lubuk Siam are already rare. This flood brought a lot of nutrients and fish into Lake Lubuk Siam. This results in a lack of fishermen's catches, so finding alternative sources of additional income for the surrounding community is necessary. This service uses the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method, which seeks to actively involve the community in efforts to develop an ecotourism area in Lake Lubuk Siam. The educational activity on ecotourism development in Lake Lubuk Siam was attended by 30 people consisting of the village government, the chairman, and members of the fishermen's group. Based on the questionnaire results, it can be seen that many people still did not understand the concept of ecotourism. Some others even consider that there is no potential for ecotourism development in their area. However, after socialization and education, the community understood and realized that the aquatic resources in their area could be developed into an ecotourism area. Through the results of this education, it can be concluded that the local community in Lake Lubuk Siam already has sufficient information as the primary capital for developing ecotourism independently in their area.

Abstract

Abstract

In Indonesia, the study of biomarkers is still very few because not many biomarkers are understood in various inland public waters here. The research location was at the Koto Panjang Reservoir as the experimental location and the Sei Tiban Fish Seed Center as the control location. The fish tested were carp and tilapia. Sample analysis was carried out in a certified laboratory at Construction Materials Laboratory, Department of Public Works, and Genetics Laboratory, Universitas Riau. The biomarkers studied were LSI, GSI and MT, and heavy metals observed were Cd, Pb and Hg. The research method was Experimental Design. Based on the statistical test, there was no difference in the LSI value of tilapia in the treatment group and tilapia in the control group (p = 0.187; p > 0.05), while it was different from goldfish (p = 0.0000; p < 0.001). In GSI, both of tilapia and carp showed significant differences (p = 0.0010; p < 0.010) and (p = 0.0060; p < 0.010). The tilapia and carp-treated livers showed the presence of MT while not in the control fish. This indicates that MT can be used as a biological marker of heavy metal exposure compared to GSI and LSI.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the relationship between the length and weight of Subhan fish (Puntius bulu) and to identify cluster structure in populations based on various variables. Descriptive and exploratory analyses were performed on 51 fish samples measured for total length, raw length, total weight, total gonadal weight, sex, and gonad maturity level. The relationship between fish length and weight was found to be strong, reflecting growth patterns common in many fish species. In addition, cluster analysis revealed the presence of two distinct groups of fish in the population, which may reflect differences in life cycle stages, environmental conditions, or life strategies. These results have significant implications in fisheries management, including stock assessment, capture planning, and conservation.

Abstract

Riau is known for its peaty waters, which often pose a challenge in providing clean water to the community. This activity aims to introduce a simple yet effective technology in purifying peat water using specially formulated magic powder. The methods used in this activity include counseling, demonstration of the use of peat water purification magic powder, and interactive discussions with participants. The participants of this activity were the local community who were very enthusiastic about participating in the whole series of events. The results of this activity showed an increase in community knowledge and understanding of the importance of clean water quality and an easy way to purify peat water using magic powder. Evaluation of the participants' understanding was conducted through questionnaires before and after the activity. The evaluation results showed that most participants were able to understand and apply the peat water purification method correctly. This activity is expected to be sustainable and have a positive impact on the health and quality of life of the community in Tenayan Industrial Village.

Abstract

Indonesia is a maritime country and an archipelagic country. Indonesia has abundant and diverse fish resources. Abundant fish resources make fish easy to obtain and cheap. However, there are still many people who do not like to consume fish and do not know the benefits contained in the body of fish. This activity aims to provide education about eating fish through puppet stories, so that students understand the benefits of fish in body growth. Community service activities were carried out on November 2, 2022 at the 178 Pekanbaru Elementary School, which were attended by 152 students. The method used is pretest and posttest design. From the results of the activity, it appears that in the pretest activities only a few students already know about the types of fish, the nutritional content of fish, the benefits of eating fish, and processed fish products. Then during the posttest, many students were able to answer and provide explanations regarding the types of fish, fish content, benefits of fish, and processed fish products. This service activity is expected to increase students insight and knowledge about types of fish, nutritional content, benefits of eating fish, processed fish products so that it is hoped that in the future students will like to eat fish.
