Abstract

Zinc is the fourth most used metal after iron, aluminum and copper and and it pollutes terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. The primary issue with zinc is that it is non-biodegradable and will build up in water. To overcome this Zn metal, biosorption employs a batch method by using langsat peel immobilized with sodium silicate as a biosorbent, which is more efficient, environmentally friendly, and improves the adsorbent performance in the adsorption process. In this study, the parameters tested were variations in pH, solution concentration, particle size, contact time, and variations in stirring speed. The results showed that the maximum absorption capacity of the metal ion Zn2+ using sodium silicate immobilized langsat peel obtained through the Langmuir isotherm equation was 20.4081 mg/g in optimum state of the adsorption process at pH 4, solution concentration 300 ppm, particle size 150 m, time contact for 90 minutes and the stirring speed of 200 rpm.

Abstract

The Pb2+ ion is the most common and highly toxic metal ion that can be found in industrial waste. if it enters a water body, it will be difficult to degrade and easily accumulate in the body of organisms. This study aims to reduce the impact of Pb2+ ion pollution in the waters. The biosorption method was chosen in batches by utilizing plantation waste, namely dragon fruit peel as a biosorbent in the absorption of Pb2+ ions, because it is cheap, safe, and effective. Dragon fruit peel contains lignin and cellulose which contain active groups so that it ispotential to be used as a biosorbent. The result showed that the dragon fruit peel adsorbent was able to absorb Pb 2+ ions at an optimum contact time 70 minutes with a stirring speed of 200 rpm which was analyzed using an atomic absorption with the highest absorption capacity of 32,74 mg/g.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to synthesize xerogel from durian peel waste by determining the optimal NaOH concentration for the synthesis process. The sol-gel method was employed, utilizing SiO2 as the main component and Na2SiO3 as the precursor. The sodium silicate precursor was obtained by reacting SiO2 derived from durian shell ash with NaOH solutions of various concentrations: 2 M, 5 M, 8 M, 11 M, and 14 M. The surface area of the resulting xerogel was tested, and the optimal NaOH concentration was found to be 8 M, yielding a surface area of 6637.8 m2/g. The synthesized xerogel was further characterized using FTIR analysis within the wave number range of 4000-600 cm-1. The FTIR data revealed the presence of silanol at a wave number of 3253.30 cm-1 and siloxane at a wave number of 1060.18 cm-1, confirming the successful synthesis of the xerogel.

Abstract

Methylene Blue is a dangerous dye produced in the textile industry. Biosorption can be used as one method to overcome textile dye waste. Biosorption is an easy-to-use method, because it is simpler, more economical, and environmentally friendly. Biosorbents that can be used, namely cellulose in durian peel (Durio zibethinus Murr.) can be used as an alternative to be used as a biosorbent in the absorption of methylene blue dyes. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of stirring speed on the absorption of Methylene blue dye using cellulose adsorbents. In the study, methylene blue biosorption was carried out using durian peel cellulose biosorbent (Durio zibethinus Murr.) with a batch method at variations in stirring speeds of 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 rpm. The results of this study obtained a cellulose extract from 90 grams of durian peel the extract resulted in 28.585 grams with a percentage of 31.69%. Results obtained at a speed of 200 rpm obtained an optimum absorption capacity of 25,0948 mg/g.

Abstract

Research Optimizing the absorption of rhodamine b dye has been carried out using the batch method with biosorbent from matoa skin. This study aims to determine the optimum conditions of each parameter used and determine the value of the absorption capacity of matoa skin against Rhodamine B. Variations in particle size used for biosorption of rhodamine b were 106 µm, 150 µm, 250 µm, and 425 µm, while variations in contact time ranged from 30 minutes to 180 minutes with an interval of 30 minutes. The result of measuring the maximum wavelength of rhodamine b dye using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer is 554 nm with an absorbance value of 0.245. For variations in particle size, the optimum adsorption capacity was 71.08 mg/g at 106 µm, while for variations in contact time, the optimum adsorption capacity was 72.85 mg/g at 150 minutes. In this study, matoa peel has the potential to be used as an alternative biosorbent in the absorption of rhodamine b.

Abstract

Molecularly Imprinted Polymer (MIP) membranes as cholesterol absorbers have been successfully synthesized. MIP membranes can absorb cholesterol molecules because they have cavite (pores) and active groups that are selective and sensitive to cholesterol molecules. MIP membranes are synthesized from butyl acrylate monomers, cross-linkers, ethylene glycol dimethacrilate (EGDMA), initiators of 2- 2-dimethoxy-2-phenylacetophenone (DMPP, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as surfactants, and cholesterol as templates. MIP membranes are synthesized using photopolymerization irradiated with UV light. The results obtained in the form of powder solids can be characterized using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The results obtained by UV-Vis spectrophotometry showed that the MIP membrane prepared a standard curve with a linear regression equation y = 0.0054x-0.007 with a value of R2 = 0.9982. This suggests that MIP membranes are selective and sensitive to analytes. At optimum absorption of the MIP-cholesterol membrane can absorb cholesterol molecules in the amount of 0.020 grams of cholesterol composition within 20 minutes

Abstract

Pumice is often found around the banks of rivers, this stone is a type of igneous rock formed from volcanic eruptions. One of the compounds contained in pumice is silica. Therefore, the synthesis of silica nanoparticles from pumice using the sol gel method was used because it is simpler and more efficient in terms of cost and processing time. the initial step was by reacting pumice powder and NaOH at 70°C - 80°C then synthesized by adding 2M HCI to form a gel or white precipitate, soaking in ethanol, teos, hexane solutions was then synthesized to become an aerogel. Silica synthesis results into silica aerogels were characterized by FTIR and XRF. From FTIR silanol and siloxane functional groups were found, and the SiO2 composition increased to 93,299% after synthesis.
