Abstract

Pumice is often found around the banks of rivers, this stone is a type of igneous rock formed from volcanic eruptions. One of the compounds contained in pumice is silica. Therefore, the synthesis of silica nanoparticles from pumice using the sol gel method was used because it is simpler and more efficient in terms of cost and processing time. the initial step was by reacting pumice powder and NaOH at 70°C - 80°C then synthesized by adding 2M HCI to form a gel or white precipitate, soaking in ethanol, teos, hexane solutions was then synthesized to become an aerogel. Silica synthesis results into silica aerogels were characterized by FTIR and XRF. From FTIR silanol and siloxane functional groups were found, and the SiO2 composition increased to 93,299% after synthesis.

Abstract

Lead is a hazardous and toxic metal if it reaches human organs in sufficient doses or if it is present in water. Pb2+ can build up in the brain, causing cancer, disorders of nerve cells, kidneys and mental health as well as problems with male reproduction and resulting in bone irregularities in children. As a result, it is vital to regulate the presence of this metal in water. Biosorption is a heavy metal removal technique that use biomass as an adsorbent. The biosorption method was conducted in this study employing sugarcane bagasse as an adsorbent and batch contacting. Variations in contact duration and stirring speed were tested in this study to determine the influence of contact time and stirring speed on the biosorption process. The study's findings revealed that a contact duration of 60 minutes and a stirring speed of 100 rpm were the best conditions in this research.

Abstract

Zn2+ is a harmful ion generated from industrial waste that must be overcome. Zn (II) absorbed in excess conditions can interfere with body health and cause system dysfunction. Metal ion absorption is carried out using langsat fruit peel biosorption. Langsat fruit peel contains active functional groups that have the potential as a binding agent for Zn2+ metal ions. This study aims to determine the optimum conditions for the absorption of Zn2+ ions using langsat fruit peel on the effect of particle size and flow rate on the column. the results showed that the biosorbent was able to absorb Zn ions of 12.2994 mg/g at a particle size of 106 micro and 12.6275 mg/g at a flow rate of 1 ml/min. this shows that langsat fruit peel is one of the best biosorbents in absorbing metals with large absorption capacity data.

Abstract

Cu2+ ion is a dangerous metal ion produced from various industrial wastes that need to be addressed. Excess and high concentrasions of absorbed Cu2+ ions can disrupt health and ecosystems because they are difficult to degrade and easily accumulate in the body. This study aims to determine the optimum conditions for the absorption of Cu2+ ions using langsat fruit peel on the effect of particle size and flow rate by column method. Adsorption of Cu metal ions with langsat fruit peel biosorbent obtained optimum conditions at adsorbent particle size of 150 micrometers with adsorption capacity of 13,963 mg/g and flow rate of 1 mL/minute with adsorption capacity of 13,442 mg/g. This shows that langsat fruit peel is one of the best biosorbents in absorbing metals with large absorption capacity data.

Abstract

Increasing industrial activities have a negative impact on the ecosystem. One of them is environmental pollution. Heavy metals can be found in industrial waste whose presence can endanger living things around the industrial environment. Overcoming the presence of heavy metal ions in industrial waste can be done by biosorption methods. Biosorption is one of the strategies that can be utilized to adsorb heavy metal levels contained in wastewater. Langsat shell was used as biomass to adsorb Cd2+ metal ions using column method.  This study was conducted to determine the effect of flow rate on the absorption of Cd2+ metal ions. The results showed that the optimal absorption of Cd2+ metal ions by langsat shell occurred at a flow rate of 1 mL /  min with an absorption capacity of 16.5425 mg/gram.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze whether there is a significant relationship between the variables of Teacher Expertise, Courses Offered, Learning Environment, and Facilities toward the satisfaction of international students in the Non-Degree and Full Degree programs at University X. The research sample consisted of 92 international students, and data collection was conducted through an online questionnaire poll. The research methodology used was the Partial Least Square (PLS) statistical technique, which includes two stages: Outer Model Analysis and Inner Model Analysis. The research findings indicate that the key factors significantly influencing the satisfaction of non-degree program students are the expertise of the teachers and the courses offered, with the latter being the most influential factor. Conversely, for Full-Degree program students, the only factor that significantly affects their satisfaction is the variable of the learning environment. The variables of teaching expertise and courses offered in the non-degree program show a significant relationship with student satisfaction, as they have p-values 0.05 and T-statistics 1.96. The p-values for teaching expertise and courses offered are 0.032 and 0.008, respectively, and the T-statistics are 2.776 and 2.212, respectively. On the other hand, in the Full Degree program, only the variable of Learning Environment shows a significant relationship with student satisfaction, with a p-value of 0.013 and a T-statistic of 2.581. The research highlights the need to strengthen teaching quality and enhance campus facilities for both Full Degree and Non-Degree programs. It is expected that these improvements will increase the enrollment of international students in the future.

Abstract

Industrial activities have been growing rapidly lately. Increased industrial activity can improve the quality of human life, but behind it there are adverse effects on the environment and human health. There are many harmful heavy metals found in industrial waste. One of them is cadmium metal, which is one of the dangerous heavy metals that if accumulated in the body can threaten human health. Langsat fruit peel waste can be utilized as an adsorbent. Adsorbent is an absorbent substance/material to absorb heavy metal ions. Biomass was characterized using AAS instrument to determine the concentration of Cd2+ metal ion absorption in langsat peel biomass. This study was conducted to determine the effect of the initial concentration of solution on the absorption of Cd2+ metal ions in methanol-modified langsat peel biomass. The results showed that the optimal absorption of Cd2+ metal ions in methanol-modified langsat peel biomass was at a concentration of 400 mg/L with an absorption capacity of 9.387 mg/g.
