Abstract

Molecularly Imprinted Polymer (MIP) membranes as cholesterol absorbers have been successfully synthesized. MIP membranes can absorb cholesterol molecules because they have cavite (pores) and active groups that are selective and sensitive to cholesterol molecules. MIP membranes are synthesized from butyl acrylate monomers, cross-linkers, ethylene glycol dimethacrilate (EGDMA), initiators of 2- 2-dimethoxy-2-phenylacetophenone (DMPP, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as surfactants, and cholesterol as templates. MIP membranes are synthesized using photopolymerization irradiated with UV light. The results obtained in the form of powder solids can be characterized using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The results obtained by UV-Vis spectrophotometry showed that the MIP membrane prepared a standard curve with a linear regression equation y = 0.0054x-0.007 with a value of R2 = 0.9982. This suggests that MIP membranes are selective and sensitive to analytes. At optimum absorption of the MIP-cholesterol membrane can absorb cholesterol molecules in the amount of 0.020 grams of cholesterol composition within 20 minutes

Abstract

Pumice is often found around the banks of rivers, this stone is a type of igneous rock formed from volcanic eruptions. One of the compounds contained in pumice is silica. Therefore, the synthesis of silica nanoparticles from pumice using the sol gel method was used because it is simpler and more efficient in terms of cost and processing time. the initial step was by reacting pumice powder and NaOH at 70°C - 80°C then synthesized by adding 2M HCI to form a gel or white precipitate, soaking in ethanol, teos, hexane solutions was then synthesized to become an aerogel. Silica synthesis results into silica aerogels were characterized by FTIR and XRF. From FTIR silanol and siloxane functional groups were found, and the SiO2 composition increased to 93,299% after synthesis.

Abstract

Lead is a hazardous and toxic metal if it reaches human organs in sufficient doses or if it is present in water. Pb2+ can build up in the brain, causing cancer, disorders of nerve cells, kidneys and mental health as well as problems with male reproduction and resulting in bone irregularities in children. As a result, it is vital to regulate the presence of this metal in water. Biosorption is a heavy metal removal technique that use biomass as an adsorbent. The biosorption method was conducted in this study employing sugarcane bagasse as an adsorbent and batch contacting. Variations in contact duration and stirring speed were tested in this study to determine the influence of contact time and stirring speed on the biosorption process. The study's findings revealed that a contact duration of 60 minutes and a stirring speed of 100 rpm were the best conditions in this research.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health issue in Indonesia, including in Padang Pariaman Regency, where the prevalence reached 28.3% in 2021 and declined to 19.4% in 2023. Efforts to prevent stunting require a community-based approach that utilizes local resources, one of which is the nipa palm fruit (Nypa fruticans), known for its high nutritional content and potential as functional food. This Community Service Program (PKM) aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of Posyandu cadres in Nagari Katapiang in processing nipa fruit into nutritious and economically valuable food products. The methods included nutrition education, dissemination of information on nipa fruit potential, and training on appropriate technology for processing nipa into food products such as jam, nuggets, and meatballs. Evaluation was carried out through pre- and post-activity questionnaires. The results showed a significant increase in cadres’ knowledge of nipa’s nutritional content (from 20% to 100%) and health benefits (from 30% to 100%). Perceptions of nipa’s role in stunting prevention also increased from 25% to 95%. Furthermore, practical skills in producing nipa jam improved, where all participants who had never tried before were able to produce processed products after the training. Thus, this PKM activity successfully enhanced the knowledge and practical skills of Posyandu cadres, while demonstrating the potential of nipa fruit as a local food innovation supporting stunting prevention efforts.

Abstract

Nagari Ketaping in Batang Anai District has great potential for culinary tourism, especially through traditional fried snack vendors such as sala lauak. However, the extensive use of cooking oil in these activities leads to the generation of used cooking oil (jelantah), which poses serious health and environmental risks. Repeated use of the oil produces free radicals and carcinogenic substances that may cause degenerative diseases, while improper disposal into waterways leads to pollution and ecosystem damage. This community service program aims to educate and raise awareness among members of the majlis taklim in Nagari Ketaping about the dangers of used cooking oil and to demonstrate its potential for conversion into economically valuable products. The main participants are housewives who also operate small fried snack businesses. The outcomes include a scientific publication in Pelita Eksakta Journal (FMIPA UNP), a video documentation, and online media dissemination through Berita Minang.

Abstract

The increasing demand in the textile industry ideally requires effective wastewater treatment systems to prevent environmental pollution. These pollutants are resistant to degradation and pose serious risks to aquatic ecosystems and human health. To address this issue, sustainable and low-cost treatment methods are urgently needed. Biosorption using agricultural waste has emerged as a promising alternative; however its performance is often limited by insufficient active binding sites. Therefore, surface modification using natural protein sources is proposed to enhance adsorption capacity and efficiency. This study aims to develop and evaluate longan peel modified with duck egg white (LP-DEW) as an eco-friendly biosorbent for indigo carmine removal. The effects of particle size and contact time were investigated, and adsorption kinetics were analyzed using pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, and intraparticle diffusion models. The results showed that LP-DEW exhibited a maximum adsorption capacity of 128.27 mg g-1 at an optimal particle size of 63 μm and equilibrium time of 90 min. The adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order model, indicating chemisorption as the dominant mechanism. In conclusion, LP-DEW demonstrates high adsorption efficiency and favorable kinetics, highlighting its potential as a sustainable biosorbent for dye-contaminated wastewater treatment.
