Abstract

Introduction: Patient safety (PS) is crucial to healthcare services, including in dental practice. A good patient safety culture can reduce adverse events and improve the quality of care. Patient safety training is one strategy to improve safety culture. However, there are still gaps in the implementation of patient safety culture (PSC). This study aims to analyze the differences in patient safety culture between staff who have received patient safety training and those who have not. Methods: This study was cross-sectional using the Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture (HSOPSC) questionnaire. Participants were staff at the Dental and Oral Hospital of the University of Muhammadiyah Semarang who met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected for two weeks, and statistical analysis was performed using the Mann-Whitney test to compare differences in patient safety culture between groups that had received training and those that had not. Results: Of the 12 dimensions of patient safety culture, teamwork within the unit (89.6 %) and organizational learning–continuous improvement (85.8%) had the highest positive response rates. In contrast, the dimensions of staffing (35.4 % ) and openness of communication (36.2%) recorded the lowest positive responses. Staff who had attended patient safety training showed a higher positive response than those who had not, but the results of the difference in mean scores with 95% confidence intervals (CI) proved to be statistically insignificant (p = 0.563). Conclusion: Patient safety training increased the perception of safety culture, although there was no significant difference in scores between staff who had and had not attended training. A supportive work environment and good teamwork are essential in shaping a patient safety culture. Hospitals should consider strategies to increase staffing so that they are not working in “crisis mode” to maintain patient safety and to support the Indonesian Ministry of Health and WHO Patient Safety Action Plan.

Communication is one of the factors that contribute to increasing the level of patient satisfaction. Meanwhile, communication problems are often a patient complaint as 35%-40% of patients are not satisfied when consulting with a doctor. Analyzing the relationship between patient satisfaction and the provision of communication, information, and education carried out by dental profession students at the Dental and Oral Hospital of Muhammadiyah University, Semarang. Method: This type of research is observational with cross sectional design. The population is 101 consisting of dental professional student patients. The sampling technique uses accidental sampling. The independent variables are the provision of IEC, age, gender, and level of professional students and the dependent variable is patient satisfaction. The questionnaire to measure patient satisfaction and the provision of IEC was taken from previous studies and has been proofread. Validity testing was conducted using expert judgment, with heterotrait-monotrait (HTMT) ratios below 0.9, and the reliability test using Cronbach's alpha yielded a result of 0.7. Ethical approval has been obtained and data collection involves informed consent and questionnaire interviews. Data analysis was carried out with univariate and bivariate using rank spearman correlation and Chi-square. There is a relationship between the provision of IEC with patient satisfaction (p = 0.000). there is no relationship between age (p = 0.840), gender (p = 1.000) and the level of professional students (0.260) with patient satisfaction. the results of patient satisfaction at RSGM Unimus assessed by patients have very satisfactory results. Maintaining and improving patient satisfaction is needed by RSGM to achieve maximum service quality. There is a relationship between the provision of communication, information, and education with patient satisfaction.

Abstract

Abstract

As a form of state responsibility as required by the ASEAN Agreement Transboundary Haze Pollution (AATHP), Indonesia and Thailand have provided sanctions to be imposed to the perpetrators of the forest and land fires. However, the national laws or legal instruments on this matter work only domestically and fail to overcome the effect of the domestic forest and land fires which potentially produce transboundary haze pollution. This paper proposes that the ideas of soft law of the AATHP and the non-intervention of the ASEAN Way should be reconsidered in dealing with transboundary haze pollution and a special regional court has to be made as a central authority to impose sanction upon the perpetrators of forest and land fires that cause the transboundary haze pollution. Using a comparative case study, this article evaluates the state responsibility and the implementation of the AATHP ideas in Indonesia and Thailand and put forward the arguments and the possibilities for installing a special court for transboundary haze pollution. The results demonstrate that, due to its regional needs and institutional and legal norms, ASEAN needs a different model of regional court compared to Uni-European’s one.
