Abstract

BACKGROUND: Administration of resistant starch (RS) influences the diversity and the composition of microbiota as well as inhibits the growth of cancer cell. Banana as a potential source of RS has been reported. Although Musa paradisiaca has been reported to induce apoptosis in colon cancer cells, Musa balbisiana, which has low glycemic index and suitable for particular patients, has not been investigated yet.METHODS: Starches of M. balbisiana and M. paradisiaca were prepared and mixed with other components to make 3 types of mouse pellets. Mouse model for colon cancer was prepared and fed with different types of mouse pellets. Blood was collected and processed for measuring β-glucuronidase and malondialdehyde (MDA) with Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method. Resected ceca were incised to collect the inner part for short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) measurement with gas chromatography analysis. Resected colas were fixed and processed for immunohistochemistry to detect Caspase-3.RESULTS: Colon-cancer-mice fed with the M. balbisiana and M. paradisiaca starches-contained pellets had significant higher concentrations of total SCFA (p=0.003), acetic acid (p=0.000), propionic acid (p=0.000) and butyric acid (p=0.000); lower concentration of β-glucuronidase (p<0.001); higher Caspase-3 score (p=0.040); and lower MDA concentration (p<0.001) than colon-cancer-mice fed with standard pellet (control).CONCLUSION: M. balbisiana and M. paradisiaca starches could be suggested as potential anti-colon cancer RS. Abstract

Latar Belakang : Dislipidemia merupakan faktor risiko terjadinya penyakit kardiovaskular yang menjadi salah satu penyebab utama kematian di dunia. Bunga rosela sebagai tanaman herbal yang popular di masyarakat Indonesia mengandung bahan aktif yang dapat memperbaiki profil lipid. Tujuan Penelitian: Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh pemberian seduhan kelopak rosela terhadap profil lipid tikus wistar yang diberi pakan tinggi lemak. Metode : Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental laboratorium dengan design pre-post test dengan kelompok kontrol, menggunakan 24 ekor tikus wistar jantan usia 3 bulan, dibagi menjadi 4 kelompok yaitu kelompok kontrol diberi pakan standar dan minum ad libitum, kelompok perlakuan P1 diberi pakan standar dan seduhan rosela dosis 1340 mg/KgBB/hari, kelompok perlakuan P2 diberi pakan standar dan seduhan rosela dosis 2700 mg/KgBB/hari, kelompok perlakuan P3 diberi pakan standar dan seduhan rosela dosis 4020 mg/KgBB/ hari selama 30 hari. Pada awal dan akhir perlakuan diambil serum darah untuk mengetahui kadar trigliserida, kolesterol total, HDL, dan LDL. Hasil: Pemberian rosela pada ketiga kelompok perlakuan mengalami penurunan kadar trigliserid, kadar LDL, Peningkatan kadar kolesterol, dan kadar HDL secara bervariasi. Kelompok P3 menunjukan penurunan kadar trigliserid sebesar -61,00±45,41 (p<0,05) lebih baik dibanding kelompok lain. Kelompok P2 menunjukan peningkatan kadar HDL sebesar 10,20±9,89 (p>0,05) lebih baik dibanding kelompok lain. Kelompok P2 menunjukan penurunan LDL sebesar -5,50±7,06 (p>0,05) dibanding kelompok lain. Kesimpulan: Pemberian teh rosela dengan dosis 4020 mg/KgBB/hari selama 30 hari mampu menurunkan kadar trigliserida secara signifikan (p<0,05) pada tikus hiperkolesterolemi. Abstract

Latar Belakang: Sarkopenia erat kaitannya dengan aktivitas fisik dan komposisi tubuh terutama persen lemak tubuh. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan aktivitas fisik dan persen lemak tubuh dengan indikator sarkopenia.Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan studi cross sectional dengan 40 subjek usia 50-59 tahun yang dipilih dengan metode consecutive sampling pada warga penghuni rumah susun Karangroto. Subjek diukur tinggi badan dan berat badan untuk mengetahui status gizi. Indikator sarkopenia diamati dengan mengukur massa otot, kekuatan otot dan performa fisik. Massa otot dan persen lemak tubuh diukur dengan Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), kekuatan otot diukur dengan Electronic Hand Dynamometer, performa fisik diukur dengan tes Time Up and Go (TUG), aktivitas fisik diukur dengan kuesioner self-report International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) Short Form, dan asupan makanan diukur dengan kuesioner semi kuantitatif Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). Analisis data menggunakan Tes Mann Whitney U, korelasi Pearson Product-Moment dan Rank Spearman.Hasil: Sebesar 62,5%; 47,5%; 52,5%; 52,5%; 2,5%; 40%; 5% subjek secara berurutan memiliki Indeks Massa Tubuh kategori obesitas, persen lemak kategori obesitas, aktivitas fisik sedang, asupan lemak lebih, massa otot rendah, kekuatan otot rendah dan performa fisik rendah. Terdapat perbedaan signifikan pada massa otot dan kekuatan otot antara laki-laki dan perempuan (p<0,001). Aktivitas sedentary berkorelasi negatif dengan massa otot (r -0,434; p 0,005), serta persen lemak dengan massa otot (r -0,356; p 0,024).Kesimpulan: Terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara aktivitas sedentary dan persen lemak tubuh dengan indikator sarkopenia yaitu massa otot pada penghuni rumah susun Karangroto, Semarang.

Abstract

ABSTRACT               Background: Increased life expectancy has both positive and negative impacts. Elderly group are prone to nutritional issues and body function disorder such as sarcopenia. Factors including dietary intake and physical activity are contributors of sarcopenia.Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation of dietary intake and physical activity with nutritional status, body composition and hand grip strength (HGS) in elderly.Materials and Methods: The study was held on July-October 2020 at the Panti Wredha Dharma Bakti Surakarta. This was a cross-sectional study of 54 elderly subjects. Subjects were selected by purposive sampling method. The data included height was measured using microtoise, while weight and body composition was measured using Bioelectrical Impedance Analyzer (BIA). Dietary intake was obtained through comstock observation. Physical activity was measured by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Hand grip strength values was measured by hand grip dynamometer. Data normality analyzed by Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Bivariate test analyzed by Rank Spearman test.Results: Energy, carbohydrate and fat intake had no correlation with nutritional status, total body fat percentage, subcutaneous fat percentage and skeletal muscle mass percentage (p value > 0.05), but there was a relationship between energy (p value = 0.33), carbohydrate (p value = 0.016) and fat intake (p value = 0.047) with visceral fat percentage. Physical activity had relation with nutritional status (p = 0.048) but had no relationship with total body fat percentage, visceral fat percentage, subcutaneous fat percentage and skeletal muscle mass percentage. Protein intake also had no relationship with HGS value (p value> 0.05).Conclusions: Dietary intake only correlated with visceral fat percentage, but had no correlation with other body composition parameters. Physical activity correlated with nutritional status, but had no correlation with all of body composition parameters. Protein intake also had no correlation with HGS.

Abstract

Santri is one of the adolescent age groups who are prone to problems with food intake and low quality of diet and become one of the factors causing nutritional problems in the next phase of life. Nutrition compliance for a student depends on food service management, and an indicator of a student’s food quality is needed. The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlations between food acceptance and diet quality in Islamic boarding school students. This study was observational with a cross-sectional design. This study was held in Askhabul Kahfi Islamic Boarding School Semarang and consisted of 69 subjects chosen by simple random sampling. Diet quality data was measured through the Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ) and Diet Quality Index - International (DQI-I), food acceptance data were collected using questionnaires and food waste forms. The data were analyzed by the Pearson correlation test. This study showed that 66 subjects (95,7%) had a low diet quality and only 4,3 percent of subjects have high nutrition knowledge. There was no correlation between food acceptance and diet quality (p=0.346), but the components of diet quality which is variation score indicated significant positive correlations with a variety of food menus (p=0.020) and significant negative correlations between food acceptance with overall balance score (p=0.030). There was no correlation between food acceptance with diet quality among Santri. The incompatibility of portion standards with dietary recommendations was the most influential factor in food acceptance and diet quality of santri.Keywords: food acceptance, diet quality, santri, nutrition knowledge ABSTRAK Santri merupakan kelompok usia remaja yang rentan mengalami masalah asupan makanan maupun rendahnya kualitas diet dan menjadi salah satu faktor penyebab masalah gizi pada fase kehidupan selanjutnya. Pemenuhan gizi pada santri sangat bergantung pada penyelenggaraan makanannya, sehingga diperlukan indikator mutu kualitas makanan yang diberikan. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menganalisis hubungan antara daya terima makanan dengan kualitas diet pada santri. Penelitian observasional dengan desain cross sectional. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Pondok Pesantren Askhabul Kahfi Semarang dengan 69 subjek dipilih menggunakan metode simple random sampling. Data kualitas diet diukur menggunakan Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ) dan formulir Diet Quality Index – International (DQI-I), daya terima makanan dengan formulir sisa makanan dan kuesioner. Data dianalisis dengan uji korelasi Pearson. Hasil analisis menunjukkan 95,7% subjek memiliki kualitas diet rendah dan hanya 4,3 persen subjek yang memiliki pengetahuan gizi tinggi. Tidak ada hubungan signifikan antara daya terima makanan dengan kualitas diet (p=0,346) namun komponen kualitas diet yaitu skor variasi memiliki hubungan positif signifikan dengan variasi menu (p=0,020), dan skor keseimbangan keseluruhan memiliki hubungan negatif signifikan dengan daya terima makanan (p=0,030). Tidak ada hubungan antara daya terima makanan dengan kualitas diet pada santri. Abstract

The prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) in Indonesia is increasing. A significant risk factor for developing DM is central obesity. Lifestyles, including diet and physical activity, strongly influence the high prevalence of DM and obesity. The study aimed to analyze the association between unhealthy food consumption and physical activity among adults with central obesity in Indonesia. This study used secondary data from Riskesdas 2018 with a cross-sectional design. The subjects in this study were adults (≥ 19 years old) with central obesity. A total of 7493 subjects were included in the analysis. Food intake data were taken using a validated FFQ, and physical activity using the GPAQ questionnaire. The data were analyzed using a chi-square test and multiple logistic regression. Frequent consumption of sweet foods (p=0,001, OR=1,235), sweetened beverages (p=0,042, OR=1,157), carbonated drinks (p=0,001, OR=1,324), instant noodles (p<0,001, OR=1,845), salty foods (p<0,001, OR=1,669), seasoning (p<0,001, OR=1,514), processed meats  (p=0,009, OR=1,199), fatty foods (p<0,001, OR=1,687), and grilled foods (p<0,001, OR=1,243) were positively associated with the incidence of DM among adults with central obesity after adjusted with confounding variables. Low physical activity  increased the incidence of DM among adults with central obesity in the unadjusted model (p=1,161, OR=1,161). In conclusion, there is a relationship between the consumption of unhealthy foods and physical activity with the incidence of DM in Indonesian adults with central obesity.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Diabetes Mellitus can increase the risk of various comorbidities thus increasing the risk of malnutrition. Administering anti-hyperglycemic enteral formulas based on sorghum flour and soy flour was chosen as an alternative to expensive commercial enteral formulas. The low glycemic index in sorghum and the amino acids arginine, glycine in soybeans are beneficial for controlling blood glucose level.Objective: To analyze and compare the nutritional content and viscosity of the enteral formulas based on sorghum flour and soy flour with commercial enteral formulas.Method: Enteral formula was made from sorghum flour, soy flour, mung bean flour, skim milk, extra virgin olive oil, maltodextrin and sugar. This an experimental study using 3 comparison groups of sorghum flour and soybean flour, namely formula A (3:1), B (7:2), and C (4:1) which were compared with formula D (commercial enteral formula). Carbohydrate, protein, fat, sugar and dietary fiber variables were tested using by by different method, kjehdahl, soxhlet, luff schroll, enzymatic-gravimetric and viscosity was measured using an Ostwald viscometer which was repeated 3 times. Data were analyzed by One Way Anova and Kruskal Wallis tests, except that nutritional content of formula D was not tested.Results: Energy, energy density, and fat formulas A, B and C had significant differences (p<0.001) but formulas A and C had values that were close to formula D. Carbohydrates formulas A, B and C showed significant differences (p<0.05). Dietary fiber cotent of formulas A, B, and C was 46,12 g, 41,54 g, and 73,82 g higher than formula D content of 16 g. Protein enteral formula sorgum flour dan soy flour showed no significant difference (p>0.05) but the levels were lower than formula D. Sugar content of formula A, B C was 4,13%, 5,49%, 5,98% higher than the formula D. The viscosity of enteral formula tepung sorgum dan tepung kedelai was significantly different (p<0.05) with formula D.Conclusion: Formulas A and C are formulas that are similar to commercial enteral formulas based on their energy content, energy density and fat content.Keywords: Diabetes mellitus; enteral formula; sorghum; soybean ABSTRAKLatar belakang: Diabetes Melitus meningkatkan berbagai risiko penyakit  komorbid sehingga meningkatkan risiko malnutrisi. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental dengan 3 kelompok perbandingan tepung sorgum dan tepung kedelai yang diberi nama formula A (3:1), B (7:2), dan C (4:1) kemudian dibandingkan dengan formula D (formula enteral komersial). Variabel karbohidrat, protein, lemak, gula dan serat pangan diuji menggunakan metode by different, kjeldahl, soxhlet, luff schroll, dan enzimatik-gravimetri serta viskositas diukur menggunakan viskometer ostwald. Data dianalisis dengan uji One Way Anova dan Kruskal Wallis kecuali kandungan gizi formula D tidak diuji.Hasil: Energi, densitas energi, dan lemak formula A, B dan C memiliki perbedaan yang signifikan (p<0,001) namun formula A dan C memiliki nilai yang mendekati formula D. Karbohidrat formula A, B dan C menunjukan perbedaan yang signifikan (p<0,05). Kadar serat pangan formula A, B dan C sebanyak 46,12 g, 41,54 g, dan 73,82 g lebih tinggi dibandingkan formula enteral komersial yaitu 16 g. Protein formula enteral tepung sorgum dan tepung kedelai tidak menunjukan perbedaan yang signifikan (p>0,05) namun kadarnya lebih rendah dibandingkan formula D. Kadar gula formula A, B dan C yaitu 4,13%, 5,49%, 5,98% lebih tinggi dibandingkan formula D.Viskositas formula enteral tepung sorgum dan tepung kedelai berbeda secara signifikan (p<0,05) dengan formula D.Simpulan: Formula A dan C merupakan formula yang memiliki kemiripan dengan formula enteral komersial berdasarkan kandungan energi, densitas energi dan lemaknya.Kata kunci: Diabetes melitus; formula enteral; sorgum; kedelai

Abstract

Background: soccer is a sport that requires a high level of energy. The combination of training and adequate nutrition can make better sport performance. Nutritional status can determine the quality of athlete while competing and reducing the risk of illness and injury. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between energy adequacy levels and the nutritional status of PSIS athletes. Methods: This correlational descriptive used a cross sectional design. Subjects were observed for a 2 months period. A total of 104 soccer athletes participated in thus study. The instrument of this research includes food recall and physical activity checklist for 3 x 24 hours, digital scale, Skinfold Caliper-Thickness and microtoise. Research variables include the level of energy adequacy, body mass index, and percent body fat. Results: The result showed that the energy adequacy level was 101 athletes (97.1%), normal nutritional status was 70 athletes (66.7%) and normal body fat percent was 71 (67.6%). The relationship between the level of energy adequacy and the percentage of body fat in PSIS athletes with a p-value of 0.56 (>0.05) and a correlation with an r value of 19%. The level of energy adequacy has a significant relationship with the percentage of body fat. Conclusion: it is recommended that dietary habit should be planned to improve the performance in sport fields.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a global health emergency that experiences an increasing trend every year. Diabetes mellitus can cause complications if not treated properly. One of the complications that arises is hypertension. Type 2 DM patients with hypertension may have a higher risk of complications than type 2 DM patients without hypertension. Aim: To prove the relationship between Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG) levels and lipid profile levels in type 2 DM patients with hypertension. Methods: This research is an analytical observational study using a cross-sectional approach. This study used secondary data from type 2 DM patients with hypertension medical records at Diponegoro National Hospital, with as many as 38 respondents from 2021 to 2023. Results: Spearman Rank’s analysis showed that in type 2 DM patients with hypertension, the correlation between GDP levels and total cholesterol levels was p = 0.073 and r = 0.295, HDL cholesterol p = 0.232 and r = 0.199, LDL cholesterol p=0.048 and r=0.323, and triglyceride p=0.371 and r=0.149. Conclusion: There was a significant positive correlation between GDP levels and LDL cholesterol levels in type 2 DM patients with hypertension.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus prevalence is rising. Liquid feeding in the form of enteral formulas is needed to meet the nutritional needs of patients who cannot consume orally. The development of enteral formulas based on sorghum-soybean flour for diabetes mellitus patients, which has been nutritionally analyzed and adjusted to the requirements of enteral manufacturing, was selected for further in vivo research. This study evaluated the effect of the sorghum-soybean flour formula on fasting blood glucose (FBG), lipid profile levels, and albumin in hyperglycemic rats.Materials and methods: This was a true experimental study with pre–post-test randomized control design. Wistar rats were divided into four groups: negative control group was normal rats and given standard feed only; positive control group was hyperglycemic rats and given standard feed only; treatment (T)1 and T2 groups were hyperglycemic rats given standard feed along with enteral formula at a dose of 4,41 g/day and 5,51 g/day for 28 days. Blood samples were collected to analyze FBG, albumin, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), triglycerides, and total cholesterol.Results: There were differences in the levels of FBG, albumin, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, and total cholesterol before and after the intervention in groups T1 and T2. Group T1 showed an 8.12% decrease in FBG, while T2 showed a 29.89% decrease. Triglycerides decreased by 29.22% in T1 and 31.85% in T2; cholesterol decreased by 11.41% in T1 and 13.94% in T2. LDL levels decreased by 29.97% in T1 and 38.44% in T2. Albumin levels increased by 47.90% in T1 and 56.67% in T2. HDL levels increased by 23.94% in T1 and in 35.04% in T2.Conclusion: Administration of an enteral formula based on sorghum-soybean flour can reduce FBG, triglycerides, total cholesterol, and LDL levels, and increase albumin and HDL levels in hyperglycemic rats.Keywords: hyperglycemia, enteral formula, albumin levels, fasting blood glucose, HDL, LDL, total cholesterol, triglycerides
