Abstract

The production process in the fish processing industry indeed produces waste, including fish skin. The fish skin waste is then processed by the fish skin processing industry, one of which is in Tegalsari Village, Cilamaya Wetan Subdistrict, Karawang Regency, so the waste can be helpful and has more added value. In practice, this industry experiences several problems in its development, especially marketing and capital problems. Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang and other universities took the initiative to hold community service activities, such as coaching for the industry actors. The coaching activity aims to obtain solutions for the fish skin processing industry in this village to the two problems. The coaching method is carried out through counseling for the management of the Berkah Mandiri Women's Cooperative as players in the fish skin processing industry in the village. It requires the involvement of all stakeholders and synergy between them so that the industry's problems can be resolved effectively and thoroughly.

Abstract

Pemanfaatan sumber daya hayati ikan dari tahun ke tahun semakin meningkat dan tidak terkotrol diiringi penurunan mutu lingkungannya, telah mengancam keberadaan ikan di alam liar. Fenomenan ini diduga karena minimnya pengetahuan dan pemahaman masyarakat tentang ikan dan aspek kehidupannya. Upaya konservasi sumberdaya hayati ikan perlu terus dilakukan, salah satunya  memperkaya pengetahuan dan pemahaman masyarakat. Kegiatan Pengabdian Masyarakat berbasis sekolah dilaksanakan dengan tujuan untuk memberikan pengetahuan dan pemahaman untuk siswa sekolah terkait dengan sumberdaya hayati ikan dan konservasibya. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 20 Januari 2020 dengan mitra adalah siswa SMA Diponegoro Kabupaten Jembrana-Bali. Kegiatan dibagi menjadi 2 tahap yaitu tahap pembelajaran dan tahap evaluasi. Tahapan pembelajaran berlangsung dengan baik dan lancar. Hasil evaluasi secara umum pengetahuan siswa masih minim tentang ikan dan upaya konservasi.  Direkomendasikan perlunya pembeajaran pengenalan sumerdaya hayati ikan dan konservasinya dalam kuirkulum sekolah, untuk mendukung kegiatan konservasi yang selama ini dijalankan di Indonesia.

Abstract

Angka kejadian penyakit kardiovaskular cukup tinggi dan menjadi penyebab utama kematian di beberapa negara. Negara kita memiliki sumber kekayaan alam yang melimpah tapi belum dieksplorasi secara optimal. Secara empiris, herbal telah digunakan untuk mengatasi penyakit kardiovaskular. Akan tetapi jumlah riset dan publikasinya masih terbatas, sehingga mempengaruhi tingkat pengetahuan dan pemahaman mahasiswa tentang herbal untuk penyakit kardiovaskular. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan pemahaman mahasiswa tentang herbal untuk penyakit kardiovaskular. Kegiatan in diikuti oleh mahasiswa dari Perguruan Tinggi Negeri dan Perguruan Tinggi Swasta di Indonesia. Sebelum dan sesudah pembelajaran materi herbal untuk penyakit kardiovaskular, tingkat pengetahuan dan pemahaman diukur menggunakan soal pre dan post-test . Hasil test dianalisa secara statistic menggunakan uji T-test berpasangan dengan tingkat kepercayaan 95 %. Hasil kegiatan ini menunjukkan terdapat peningkatan pengetahuan dan pemahaman partisipan sekitar 50 % tentang herbal untuk penyakit kardiovaskular. Sementara terdapat penurunan pengetahuan partisipan kurang lebih 30 % dan 20 % tidak mengalami perubahan setelah kegiatan. Kegiatan pembelajaran daring adalah salah satu cara meningkatan pengetahuan herbal untuk kardiovaskular.

Sungai Tumapel di Malang digunakan oleh masyarakat untuk berbagai aktivitas sehari-hari sehingga berpotensi menurunkan kualitas air. Penelitian ini bertujuan menilai kondiai kualitas air sungai Tumapel menggunakan metode Biotilik dan FBI. Metode eksploratif digunakan dengan pengambilan sampel di empat stasiun pengmatan sebanyak 5 kali ulangan, dan analisis biologis menggunakan indeks Biotilik dan FBI. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kedua metode biologis tersebut sama-sama menunjukkan bahwa air Sungai Tumapel telah tercemar. Aliran sungai pada kawasan Riparian alami menunjukan kondisai kualitas air tercemar sedang. Tercemar berat pada kawasan Pertanian dan pemukiman. Sedangkan untuk aliran sungai pada kawasan Peternakan Kualitas air tercemar sangat berat. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan pemantauan rutin kualitas air, peningkatan metode Biotilik dengan melibatkan akademisi, identifikasi sumber pencemaran, edukasi masyarakat, dan pengelolaan sungai secara berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Scarus fish play an important ecological role in supporting the health of coral reefs. Unfortunately, studies related to morphometric variations, growth patterns and condition factors of scarus fish are still unexplored. Hence, this research aimed to describe morphometric variations, growth patterns and condition factors of scarus fish (Scarus quoyi, Scarus rubroviolaceus and Scarus niger) collected from Pulau Weh water, Aceh. As many as  50 fish for each species were obtained through fishermen's catches. The main parameters investigated include morphometric comparisons, length and weight distribution, growth patterns and condition factors. The number of morphometric characters measured was 12 characters. Morphometric comparisons and condition factors between fish species were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by the Least Significant Difference Test (LSD) and discriminant function test. Meanwhile, comparative growth patterns were analyzed descriptively. The research results show that dorsal finbase length, pectoral fin length, and caudal peduncle depth were key characters in distinguishing the three species of scarus fish. A comparison of morphometric characters between Scarus quoyi and Scarus rubroviolaceus showed a  63.6% different character. Meanwhile, both Scarus rubroviolaceus and Scarus niger, and Scarus quoyi and Scarus niger showed a  54.5% different character. All scarus fish in this study had a negative allometric growth pattern (b<3) with condition factor values ranging from 1.008 to 1.020. Efforts to develop fishing gear selectivity and further research related to reproductive biology aspects of the scarus fish are essential to obtain comprehensive information and support sustainability programs.  Ikan genus scarus memiliki peran ekologis penting memelihara kesehatan terumbu karang. Sayangnya, kajian terkait variasi morfometrik, pola pertumbuhan dan faktor kondisi ikan genus scarus masih minim diungkap. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis variasi morfometrik, pola pertumbuhan serta faktor kondisi ikan genus scarus (Scarus quoyi, Scarus rubroviolaceus dan Scarus niger) yang dikoleksi dari perairan Pulau Weh, Aceh. Jumlah sampel ikan yang dianalisis untuk masing-masing spesies berjumlah 50 ekor yang diperoleh melalui hasil tangkapan nelayan. Parameter utama yang dianalisis meliputi komparasi morfometrik, distribusi selang kelas panjang dan bobot, pola pertumbuhan serta faktor kondisi. Jumlah karakter morfometrik yang diukur sebanyak 12 karakter. Komparasi morfometrik dan faktor kondisi antar jenis ikan dianalisis menggunakan ANOVA satu arah diikuti dengan Uji Beda Nyata terkecil (BNT) dan uji fungsi diskriminan. Sementara itu, komparasi pola pertumbuhan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa panjang sirip dorsal, panjang sirip pektoral, dan tinggi batang ekor merupakan karakter kunci yang dapat membedakan ketiga spesies ikan genus scarus. Komparasi karakter morfometrik antara Scarus quoyi dengan Scarus rubroviolaceus menunjukkan persentase perbedaan karakter sebesar 63,6%. Sementara itu, baik antara Scarus rubroviolaceus dan Scarus niger maupun Scarus quoyi dengan Scarus niger sama- sama menunjukkan persentase perbedaan karakter sebesar 54,5%. Ketiga ikan scarus memiliki pola pertumbuhan alometrik negatif (b<3) dengan nilai faktor kondisi berkisar antara 1.008 hingga1.020. Upaya pengembangan selektivitas alat tangkap dan penelitian lanjutan terkait aspek biologi reproduksi ikan genus scarus penting dilakukan untuk mendapatkan informasi yang komprehensif dalam upaya mendukung kelestarian dan pemanfaatan yang berkelanjutan.

Abstract

The use of insecticides as pest control is one of the efforts of Indonesian farmers in increasing agricultural productivity. Chlorpyrifos insecticide is one type of organophosphate insecticide that is toxic and can have a negative impact on the environment. The study aimed to compare the effect of exposure to Chlorpyrifos insecticide with different concentrations on egg hatchability and larval survival of silver rasbora (Rasbora argyrotaenia). Experimental research with a completely randomized design (CRP). One way ANOVA to compare between treatments then further tested using DMRT (Duncan's Multiple Range Test), and larval mortality was analyzed using probit analysis. The results showed that different concentrations of chlorpyrifos insecticide had a significantly different effect on hatchability and survival of silver rasbora larvae (Rasbora argyrotaenia). The lethal concentration (LC50) of chlorpyrifos insecticide that can affect the hatchability and survival of silver rasbora larvae is 0.62 ppm. The results of this study provide valuable information for various parties related to the dangers of excessive use of insecticides because they can have a negative impact on the acute environment.

Abstract

Fish Auction Place (TPI) is a means to market fish catches obtained by fishermen after going to sea, so it is one of the economic drivers in the capture fisheries sub-sector, also used as a data collection center for fish biological resources caught in one area as a support for capture fisheries statistics. One of the TPIs in Lamongan Regency, East Java is TPI Kranji, Paciran. This study aims to determine the number and species composition of large pelagic fish caught by fishermen. The research was conducted in September - October 2023, data collection was conducted 10 times. Data collection used survey methods, interviews and direct observation in the field. The results obtained were 3,983 individuals consisting of 8 species from 6 families, and 5 orders. The highest species composition and frequency of fish presence in Kranji TPI is gray tuna (Thunnus tonggol) 24.76% with 100% presence, and the lowest is lanjaman shark (Carcharhinus sealei) (0.05%) with 10% presence. The conservation status of the 8 species of fish caught varied greatly, including; Vulnerable (VE), Near Threatened (NT), Data deficient (DD), and Not Evaluated (NE), each represented by one species (12.5%), and as many as four species (50.0%) were categorized as Least concern (LC). The results of this study can serve as scientific information and evaluation material for further research on the biological aspects and dynamics of fish populations in measured fishing efforts to support sustainable utilization

Abstract

Tofu industries that do not have processing facilities often dump their waste water into river bodies, so that it can pollute the water and the surrounding environment. One way to improve water quality resulting from tofu liquid waste is phytoremediation which utilizes aquatic plants. This research aims to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) and water spinach (Ludwigia adscendens) in reducing water quality in household tofu liquid waste. The method used was experimental using a Randomized Block Design (RAK) consisting of 5 treatments and 4 replications. Data analysis uses ANOVA PAST descriptively using graphs or diagrams. The research results show that water spinach plants are the most effective for reducing pH, temperature, TDS, TSS and BOD levels. This shows that in general aquatic plants are able to neutralize tofu liquid waste in the Jilu River and still comply with the quality standards of PP RI No. 22 of 2021 Class III, except for TSS levels.

Abstract

Biological indicators utilize animals as markers to assess water quality in specific water bodies. Among various bioindicators, benthos is widely used for evaluating river water quality due to its sensitivity to environmental changes and its tendency to remain in specific areas. This study aimed to determine the water quality status of the Jilu River. Sampling was conducted using a purposive sampling method, with macroinvertebrates collected using a grab sampler to extract sediment from the riverbed. The sediment was then sieved to isolate benthic organisms from five locations with varying characteristics: industrial area, rice fields, natural riparian zone, residential area, and educational tourism park. The Family Biotic Index (FBI) was used to analyze the benthic macroinvertebrates, identifying 11 families: Thiaridae, Tubificidae, Chironomidae, Viviparidae, Simuliidae, Philopotamidae, Baetidae, Heptageniidae, Gecarcinucoidea, Caenidae, and Coenagrionidae. The Thiaridae family dominated across all locations. Based on FBI analysis, water quality along the Jilu River ranged across three categories: good, moderate, and very poor. The findings highlight the need for effective management strategies to mitigate pollutant loads and preserve the river’s water quality.
