Abstract

Introduction: Indonesia is a country with a high geographical distribution of hepatitis A. In June 2019, the government established the status of hepatitis A outbreaks in Pacitan District, which is spread across several districts. Based on data from the District Health Office of Pacitan, there were 1,310 peoples with hepatitis A on October 2019. Through this study, the relation between knowledge, attitudes, and personal hygiene as risk factors of hepatitis A outbreaks in Pacitan District can be identified. Methods: Observational analytic methods and case control research design were used in this study. The population was 280 people. The sample consisted of 60 peoples with case of 30 peoples and control of 30 peoples. Case and control samples were taken randomly (simple random sampling). The research data were collected using the interview method, then analyzed using the Chi Square test and the Contingency Coefficient. Results and Discussion: There was a correlation between knowledge level with the occurrence of hepatitis A outbreaks (p-value = 0.002 <0.05), attitudes with hepatitis A (pvalue = 0.004 <0.05), and personal hygiene with the occurrence of hepatitis A outbreaks (pvalue = 0.001 <0.05). Conclusion: Inadequate knowledge, inappropriate personal hygiene lead to the spread of hepatitis A outbreaks in the working area of Primary Health Care of Ngadirojo, Pacitan District.

Abstract

Introduction: Waste processing in Final Disposal Sites (FDS) in Indonesia is still dominated by open dumping. This condition causes health and environmental problems and inhibits the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030. Waste is biomass that can be converted into electrical energy through the Waste-to-Energy Plant (WtE Plant) installation. This article aimed to illustrate the potential of WtE Plant in the FDS in Indonesia in supporting the achievement of SDGs 2030. Discussion: Most waste in the FDS are dominated by organic waste with the highwater content of 60-70% but have a calorific value almost equivalent to sub-bituminous coal. Most studies show the WtE Plant uses a thermal method (incinerator) than other technologies because it has a superior value in the technical aspects (easy operation and high generated energy around 9.86%), economy aspects (medium investment value, but high profit with moderate payback period around 6.5 years) environmental aspects (reduction of waste up to 70-80% and emissions), and lower public health impacts than those produced by open dumping and coal systems. For environmentally safe optimal results, it is necessary to reduce wastewater content, increase pollution control units, and implement an integrated monitoring system. Conclusion: The implementation of WtE Plant can accelerate to achieve the SDGs 2030, especially the 7th, 8th, 12th, and 13th goals concerning clean and affordable energy, decent jobs and economic growth, responsible consumption and production, and addressing climate change, respectively.

Abstract

Introduction: Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) is an effort by the government to improve public health. The main focus of pillar one is to stop open defecation. Sagulung Subdistrict has verified and non-verified ODF villages in their working area. This paper aims to create a CLTS model based on the pillar of one ODF in the Sagulung Subdistrict. Methods: This research used a mixed-method that combining qualitative and quantitative approaches. An amount of 90 families were chosen as respondents using a simple random sampling technique. Besides that, three programmers and five implementers from the government also became respondents. Data were analysed with a Chi-Square test and descriptive analysis. Results and Discussion: This research showed that ODF declaration and local policies were the aspects that had not been fulfilled to the maximum on CLTS pillar one in the Sugulung Subdistrict Government. Sungai Lekop Primary Health Care had not fully fulfilled three aspects: the concept, planning, and targets (advocated and local policies). As a Non-ODF village, Sungai Langkai primary health care did not fulfil the concept, planning, and target (certificate of the training program, advocated, declaration of ODF and local policies). Conclusion: Variables that have not been fulfilled optimally can be arranged as a recommendation model to successful ODF in Sagulung Subdistrict.

Abstract

Dengue fever remains a public health problem. Environmental factors influence the mosquito Aedes aegypti’s growth, especially if there are many containers in the neighborhood. The community of Nanggungan Village have a habit of storing water in containers, therefore, they risk to become breeding sites for mosquitoes. This study aims to identify the Maya Index status of Aedes aegypti between Tegalrejo and Krajan Kidul Village. The research was observational with a cross-sectional design. Total samples were 200 homes, which 100 homes from Tegalrejo and 100 homes from Krajan Kidul Village, taken by simple random sampling. The measurement of variables employed observation sheet and analyzed in a descriptive approach. The number of containers observed in the Tegalrejo Village was 394 units, and Karajan Kidul Village was 391 units. Maya Index statuses in Tegalrejo (92%) and Krajan Kidul Village (88%) were low. Maya Index status in Krajan Kidul (13%) was higher than Tegalrejo Village (8%). House Index (HI) in the Tegalrejo (18.0%) was lower than Krajan Kidul Village (25.0%), Container Index in Tegalrejo (5.30%) was lower than in Krajan Kidul Village (8.95%), Breteau Index in Tegalrejo (21.0%) was lower than in Krajan Kidul Village (35.0%), Density Figure in Tegalrejo and Krajan Kidul Village indicated a scale of 3 and 4. Based on the MI’s status, Tegalrejo and Krajan Kidul Village were included as a low-risk category of mosquito breeding sites. Based on the density number of larvae, two villages have a moderate risk of Dengue Fever transmission. The community should implement the Mosquitoes Breeding Sites Eradication Program (PSN 3M Plus) and minimize the presence of the containers.

Abstract

Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) is a sanitation program implemented in Situbondo District, East Java, Indonesia, for nearly ten years. However, Situbondo Regency has not achieved the Indonesian Government's 100% Open Defecation Free (ODF) target. This study aims to analyze policymakers' perspectives in the regions in accelerating CLTS targets' achievement based on a logical model approach. This research is a qualitative observational study with an evaluative method. The design of this research is a case study in Situbondo Regency with informants taken by purposive sampling. The data analysis used is qualitative analysis with the Spradley model. The results of this study indicate that managing stakeholders at the level of program implementers are critical, where program implementers must consider the needs and expectations of program makers to achieve their goals. The impact of policy makers' involvement greatly influences the construction process in producing significant target achievement and the greater influence on a project's success. Also, the achievement and Sustainability of the CLTS program cannot be successful only because of policy makers' readiness of policies. However, the interaction of health workers with the community and the social environment associated with the CLTS program is significant to accelerate its success. The plan's continuation to achieve the target requires policymakers' support and increased interpersonal support for program recipients. Keywords: CLTS; Community-Led Total Sanitation; ODF; Sustainable Program
