Abstract

The social movement in Salipolo Village, Pinrang Regency, Indonesia, opposing the development of sand mining, reflects a response to development policies perceived as environmentally destructive and threatening to the livelihoods of the local community. This study aims to explore how digitalization influences the dynamics of this social movement, focusing on the use of social media and data-based technologies as advocacy tools. The research findings show that digital transformation has opened new avenues for the Salipolo community to organize, document environmental impacts, and expand the reach of their movement more broadly. The use of visual data, such as maps of affected areas and environmental impact simulations, has strengthened their position in negotiations with the government and mining companies. This collaboration not only provides moral and material support but also introduces more effective advocacy strategies, broadening the impact of the social movement. The study demonstrates that digitalization has empowered the Salipolo community to fight for justice and policy changes that align more closely with their interests. Therefore, this social movement is not limited to mass actions but also involves the use of technology to strengthen the community's bargaining power in the face of detrimental development policies. Keywords: Social Movement, Digitalization, Mining Rejection, Cross-Community Collaboration, Digital Advocacy.

Abstract

Abstract

The relocation of Indonesia’s national capital to East Kalimantan reflects spatial-political dynamics in which state, corporate, and community interests collide. This study employs a qualitative case study combining field observations, document analysis, and in-depth interviews with the IKN Authority, East Kalimantan provincial officials, Dayak and Balik traditional leaders, NGOs such as AMAN, and civil society actors. Findings show that spatial planning is dominated by the central government and investors, while local participation remains limited. Key policy instruments, including the IKN Law and Detailed Spatial Plan (RDTR), tend to override indigenous rights, marginalize traditional living spaces, and prioritize long-term land concessions for corporations. Such exclusionary practices have intensified land conflicts, forced evictions, and ecological damage in the Sepaku and Samboja areas, including deforestation, biodiversity loss, and water resource degradation. The results indicate that IKN development is not a neutral technical exercise but a contested political project. This aligns with Lefebvre’s conception of space as a contested social product shaped by power. The study contributes to debates on spatial politics in Indonesia while underscoring the need for inclusive, just, and ecologically sustainable planning.

Abstract

Cities that are considered promising by rural communities to seek a better welfare life force them to look for space to fulfill their needs. Public places then become an alternative for them in making a living such as in shopping places, flyovers, and at road intersections. Makassar as one of the metropolitan cities is also inseparable from economic problems and social problems such as the existence of street children. This research was conducted using an in-depth interview method conducted to informants who the author considers capable of providing data and information related to the causes of the increase in the number of street children in Makassar city. The theory used is the theory of space production. The increase in the number of street children in Makassar City is caused by three factors, namely urban development factors. the second factor is urbanization carried out by rural communities to obtain a more decent life, and the third factor is the exploitation behavior carried out by individuals and families of these street children.

Abstract

The fading of identity issues indicates that the direction of local politics in Selayar has shifted and changed. However, this change does not mean that it does not bring new problems to the local political landscape in Selayar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. We aim to uncover the emergence of oligarchy in place of identity politics as a new phenomenon in the Selayar context. This research uses the concept of oligarchy to understand it, which is described qualitatively. In general, we argue that the failure of identity politics to consolidate power has given birth to oligarchies that are intertwined with familism in the local sphere. The emergence of oligarchy at the local level is strongly influenced by the disorientation of identity politics and the fragile socio-economic conditions of the community so that the practice of buying and selling votes cannot be avoided, which is used by oligarchs to take advantage unilaterally.
