Abstract

Understanding concepts is one of the goals of learning physics, however there are manyindications that students have learning difficulties. This study aims to determine theunderstanding of the concepts and difficulties of students in work and energy materials and tocompare the results across semesters. This quantitative study involved 152 students majoringin physics at one of the universities in Bengkulu Province. The research instrument consistedof 4 well-reasoned multiple choice questions. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.The reason is used for categorizing the level of understanding of student concepts. The resultsshowed that the level of understanding of student concepts was in the category of IU(Incorrect Understanding). Students are also indicated to experience difficulties in the sub-concept of energy, effort due to gravitational force, effort due to non-conservative force, andmechanical energy.

Abstract

Natural Science is a subject on junior high school level, consist of Physics and Biology. As the characteristic of contextual, natural science has many parts to be explained by observation, presenting the real object both in reality or virtually. As the pandemic era, the learning process difficult to held the real presenting, and virtual approach is the answer of this challenge. Video is one of the teaching and learning media for online learning. In visual model, the video completes with the visualization of particular process or particular object which difficult to direct observe like planets in universe. Furthermore, this particular study aimed to measure the students’ achievement and compare to traditional learning held in offline setting. The students’ achievement represents with the final test in the end of semester. The variables measured in a whole semester with 119 students in junior high level. Besides, the semester with videos for online learning compare to the achievement in the offline semester on same students. As the results, the students’ achievement with the set of visual model videos better than the traditional instruction. After more, this finding can use as the alternative method in online learning due to the continuing pandemic era in Indonesia with extend the study from home program.

Abstract

Vektor merupakan salah satu topik penting dalam fisika karena seringnya dijumpai pada topik-topik fisika lainnya. Akan tetapi, sejumlah penelitian terdahulu menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman konsep vektor siswa masih rendah. Beberapa upaya yang telah dilakukan diantaranya penggunaan multirepresentasi verbal dan matematis, pembelajaran berbasis masalah, dan penggunaan media serta sumber belajar daring. Tujuan dari artikel ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan pengembangan resitasi pada materi vektor dengan mengangkat sejumlah solusi terdahulu yang dapat digunakan di masa pandemi. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kepustakaan atau library research dengan metode analisis deskriptif. Berdasarkan hasil studi kepustakaan, diperoleh suatu metode yang dapat meningkatkan penguasaan konsep siswa, yaitu resitasi berbasis program. Metode tersebut merupakan suatu penugasan kepada siswa yang dirancang dengan umpan balik pada setiap jawaban siswa. Pengalaman penggunaan resitasi terbukti dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep fisika siswa secara signifikan. Rata-rata peningkatan dari pre-test ke post-test pada penelitian-penelitian terdahulu sebesar 14,5. Resitasi juga dapat menjadi pengganti guru di luar jam pembelajaran, sehingga dapat dijadikan sebagai alternatif pengganti tatap muka pada masa pandemi. Vector is one of the prominent topics in physics because it is often found in other physics topics. However, many previous studies show that students' understanding of vector concepts is still low. Some of the efforts that have been made include verbal and mathematical multi-representations, problem-based learning, and the use of media and online learning resources. This article describes the development of recitation in vector material by highlighting several previous solutions that may be used during a pandemic. The type of this research is library research or library research with descriptive analysis methods. Based on the literature study results, a method that can improve students' conceptual mastery was discovered, namely recitation-based-program. The method is an assignment to students with feedback on each student's answer. The experience of using recitation has been proven to improve students' understanding of physics concepts significantly. The average increase from pre-test to post-test in previous studies was 14.5. Recitation can also be a substitute for teachers out of class learning so that it can be used as an alternative to face-to-face during a pandemic.

Abstract

Abstract: Understanding of concepts and scientific reasoning are an important components of the Physics learning process. One of the importance of understanding the concept and scientific reasoning is facilitating students in understanding and applying concepts obtained for everyday life. This article aims to describe students' understanding of concept and scientific reasoning on Static Fluid topic. This research used mixed methods explanatory design with 31 students of class XII IPA who have obtained Fluid Static topic. The instruments used are 10 items of essay for conceptual comprehension and 20 multiple choice items justified for scientific reasoning with substantial reliability in order, ie 0.702 and 0.745. The results show that students still have difficulty in understanding the concept of Fluid Static and still have a low scientific reasoning. Students' understanding of hydrostatic pressure sub topic is 18%, Pascal's Law of 21%, and Law Archimedes of 2.2%. Scientific reasoning aspects used in this research are mass conservation reasoning, proportional reasoning, variable control, reasoning probability, correlation reasoning, and hypotetical deductive reasoning. Sequentially, the low level of students' scientific reasoning on Static Fluid material in each criterion is indicated by the following percentages: 24%, 40%, 34%, 25%, 48%, and 20%. Based on the results obtained, that the difficulties of students in general exist on the determination of factors that affect the phenomenon of each sub-material. Abstrak: Pemahaman konsep dan penalaran ilmiah merupakan komponen penting dalam proses pembelajaran Fisika. Salah satu pentingnya dari pemahaman konsep dan penalaran ilmiah adalah dapat memberikan kemudahan siswa dalam memahami dan mengaplikasikan konsep yang diperoleh untuk kehidupan sehari-hari. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pemahaman konsep dan penalaran ilmiah siswa pada materi Fluida Statis. Jenis penelitian ini menggunakan mixed methods explanatory design dengan subyek penelitian 31 siswa di kelas XII IPA yang telah memperoleh materi Fluida Statis. Instrumen yang digunakan dengan 10 butir soal esai untuk pemahaman konsep dan 20 butir soal pilihan ganda beralasan untuk penalaran ilmiah dengan besar reliabilitas secara berurutan, yaitu 0,702 dan 0,745. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa masih mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami konsep Fluida Statis dan masih memiliki penalaran ilmiah yang rendah. Pemahaman konsep siswa pada sub materi tekanan hidrostatis sebesar 18%, Hukum Pascal sebesar 21%, dan Hukum Archimedes sebesar 2,2%. Aspek penalaran ilmiah yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, yaitu penalaran konservasi massa, penalaran proporsional, kontrol variabel, penalaran probabilitas, penalaran korelasi, dan hypotetical deductive reasoning. Secara berurutan rendahnya tingkat penalaran ilmiah siswa pada materi Fluida Statis di masing-masing kriteria, ditunjukkan dengan persentase sebagai berikut: 24%, 40%, 34%, 25%, 48%, dan 20%. Berdasarkan hasil yang diperoleh, bahwa kesulitan siswa secara umum terdapat pada penentuan faktor-faktor yang berpengaruh pada fenomena masing-masing sub materi.

Abstract

Abstract: Critical thinking skills as an important skill in the 21st century is a major goal of science education. Therefore the researchers develop various learning strategies to enhance and develop students' critical thinking skills. They develop learning materials that integrated with ability to think critically. However, the strategy makes students less understand to the concept of the material. Learning strategy as bounded inquiry lab model can improve both critical thinking skill and students' comprehension of the material. This study aims to determine effectiveness of bounded inquiry lab to critical thinking skills in high school students. This study focuses on hydrostatic pressure, Pascal's law, and Archimedes’ law. Mixed methods of embedded model design were used during the study. A total of 30 students in major natural science program undergo pre test, followed by learning using bounded inquiry lab, doing post test and then interview. The results showed that students' critical thinking skills on hydrostatic pressure, Pascal's law, and Archimedes’ law increased from an average of 20.00 in pretest to 80.67 in post test. In addition, students said that they can improve their understand concepts of matter, determine the variables, how to create and test hypotheses through scientific work, and make good conclusion through classroom learning. So, bounded inquiry lab should be used as an alternative learning to enhance critical thinking skills in static fluids. Abstrak: Keterampilan berpikir kritis sebagai keterampilan penting di abad 21 merupakan tujuan utama pendidikan sains. Hal tersebut membuat para peneliti mengembangkan berbagai strategi pembelajaran untuk mengembangkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa. Sebagian besar peneliti mengembangkan keterampilan berpikir kritis yang terintegrasi dengan materi pembelajaran. Namun, strategi tersebut membuat siswa kurang memahami konsep dari materi. Strategi pembelajaran berupa model bounded inquiry lab merupakan salah satu model yang dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis sekaligus meningkatkan pemahaman siswa pada materi. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui efektivitas bounded inquiry lab terhadap keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa SMA. Penelitian ini berfokus pada materi tekanan hidrostatis, hukum Pascal, dan hukum Archimedes. Mixed methods desain embedded model digunakan selama penelitian. Sebanyak 30 siswa kelas XI IPA SMA menjalani pre test, dilanjutkan dengan pembelajaran menggunakan bounded inquiry lab, mengerjakan soal post test kemudian wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa pada materi tekanan hidrostatis, hukum Pascal, dan hukum Archimedes meningkat dari rata-rata nilai pre test sebesar 20,00 ke nilai post test sebesar 80,67. Di samping itu, menurut siswa, pembelajaran di kelas membuat mereka lebih memahami konsep materi, menentukan variabel, cara membuat dan menguji hipotesis melalui kerja ilmiah, serta membuat kesimpulan dengan baik. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, bounded inquiry lab dapat digunakan sebagai salah satu alternatif strategi pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa pada materi fluida statis.

Abstract

Abstract: This study described students mistake on solving newton’s law problems. The subjects were 60 students of high school in 11th grade. This study used survey method with data collection technique was test. Test consisted of 10 items about the description of Newton's law (cronbach alpha 0.638). The results showed that many students mistake on solving problems about 1st Newton’s Law, 2nd Newton’s law, 3rd Newton’s law and concept of friction. Students just rememberred the mathematical equations of Newton's law without understanding the physical meaning. It was advisable to conduct further research as an effort to reduce students' mistakes, one of them is through learning that involves students participating on problem solving and given assistance so that students can do problem solving independently. Abstrak: Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan kesalahan siswa dalam memecahkan masalah hukum newton. Subyek penelitian siswa kelas XI SMA berjumlah 60. Penelitian menggunakan meteode survey dengan teknik pengumpulan data yaitu tes. Tes terdiri atas 10 butir soal uraian materi hukum Newton (cronbach alpha 0,638). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa banyak mengalami kesalahan dalam memecahkan masalah hukum I Newton, hukum II Newton, hukum III Newton dan konsep gaya gesek. Faktor penyebab kesalahan tersebut adalah karena siswa kurang memahami hukum I Newton, hukum II Newton, hukum III Newton dan konsep gaya gesek. Siswa hanya hanya menghafal persamaan matematis hukum Newton tanpa memahami makna fisis. Disarankan untuk melakukan penelitian lebih lanjut sebagai upaya mengurangi kesalahan siswa, salah satunya melaui pembelajaran yang melibatkan siswa ikut serta dalam pemecahan masalah dan diberi bantuan agar siswa dapat melakukan pemecahan masalah secara mandiri.

Abstract

Beberapa guru IPA SMPN se-Kota Malang masih melakukan pembelajaran IPA secara konvensional. Model Pembelajaran inkuiri merupakan salah satu model pembelajaran yang disarankan. Tujuan pengabdian ini adalah memperkenalkan media pembelajaran yang relevan dengan pembelajaran IPA berbasis inkuiri. Pengabdian ini dilakukan sebanyak 4 kali, yakni 15, 22, dan 29 September 2021, dan 6 Oktober 2021, dengan kegiatan berturut-turut pemaparan materi tentang teori tentang pengembangan media pembelajaran inovatif, pendampingan desain kit media, pengembangan Kit Media oleh kelompok-kelompok guru IPA, dan Reviu Kit Media dengan cara melakukan presentasi terkait dengan praktikum yang dilakukan dengan kit media. Pada akhir kegiatan pengabdian peserta mengisi angket respon melalui Google Form. Hasil pengabdian ini menunjukan bahwa sebanyak 97,50% peserta merasakan bahwa pelatihan pengembangan kit media ini berdampak positif terhadap kompetensi mereka. Guru-guru IPA SMPN se-Kota Malang merasakan bahwa kit media yang telah dikembangkan adalah praktis, cukup efektif, aman digunakan, ada inovasi terkait media, dan senang sekaligus termotivasi untuk melakukan praktikum saat melangsungkan pembelajaran IPA. Tetapi, terdapat beberapa butir angket yang mendapatkan respon peserta kurang dari 100%, yakni pengambilan data tidak memerlukan waktu yang lama (93,75%), peserta tidak merasa ada kesulitan saat menggunakan kit media (90,63%), dan peserta tidak merasakan bahwa kit media yang dikembangkan mudah rusak/trouble (90,63%).

Abstract

This study aimed to generate a teaching package in a lesson plan and student worksheet using the TPACK integrated Collaborative Inquiry model, which can improve higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) validly and effectively. The development research design followed the four-D-models development model, consisting of 4 phases: define, design, develop, and disseminate. At define, several observations and literacy studies were carried out. At design, teaching materials were designed. The experts validated the teaching materials in development, namely two lecturers and two teachers as users. Based on the validation results, it is found that the lesson plan and student worksheet were within the good or valid criteria to be used. HOTS was measured using two-tier multiple-choice in the form of 15 questions with good categories and high-reliability categories. The feasibility test was based on expert validation. The results show that the teaching material is in good criteria, so it is suitable for use under several conditions. The implementation results can affect the differences in the results of the pretest and post-test student’s HOTS-based observation during learning and increased scores.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the needs of Class XII students of MA Raudlatul Ulum for the recitation program as an interactive learning media on magnetic field material. This research’s method is descriptive. The research subjects are class XII students of MA Raudlatul Ulum who have taken magnetic field subject. The data collection techniques are interview with 1 teacher who teaches magnetic field subject and questionnaires for 30 students. Based on the data obtained, we identified several problems that occur in the magnetic field material, including (1) the lack of time allocation in the learning process despite the magnetic field material being a broad and complex material, (2) the lack of feedback in learning, (3) less interactive and boring learning media used, (4) lack of practice questions. Referring to these problems, it is necessary to develop a recitation program as an interactive learning media on magnetic field material. This program contains practice questions accompanied by feedback on each correct or incorrect answer.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to know students’ scientific literacy after they studied problem-based STEM learning. The study used mixed method with embedded experimental design. The instrument test of this studyconsisted of 5 essay questions to measure students’ scientific literacy with reliability Cronbach’s alpha 0.72.Other instruments used in this study were the interview guide and questionnaire. The subjects of this study were 27 students in SMAN 8 Muaro Jambi who studiedstatic fluid. The result of this study shows that there is an increasedstudents’ scientific literacy after studyingproblem-based STEM learning as shown by the higher post-test scoresin comparison with the pre-test scores. The significance of the improvement of students’ scientific literacy is shown by8.35 in t value with significant 0.0000. The interview result shows that through problem-based STEM learningthe students are easy to understand the phenomena in the daily lives. Besides, the students can interpret the data evidence and design an experiment.The improvement of students’ scientific literacy is shown by N-gain in medium category. The influence of problem based STEM learning toward students’ scientific literacy is shown by the Cohens d-effect size. It is 1.72 with high category. The students positively responded towardproblem-based STEM learningas shown by 58.2 % of the students indicated in “agree”scale and 38.3% in “strongly agree” scale.
