Abstract

Abstract

Flats as an alternative alternative form of residence, must be able to provide a good quality of life. To determine the existing quality of life, a comprehensive study was carried out by identifying the character of the residents along with their occupation, income and educational background related to their behavior, especially towards public spaces and their use. Public space is the main focus of this research to empower the community economically considering that the majority of residents are low-income people. The design method used is a concept-based framework because it uses concepts as a way of organizing architectural responses. The main idea of designing public spaces in this research is the application of Islamic values because the population is Muslim. It is hoped that this design can be used as a recommendation for the design of public spaces in flats so that they are in accordance with Islamic values.

Abstract

Paggora Water Park, a once-popular tourist destination, has experienced significant degradation in its facilities and infrastructure due to the prolonged COVID-19 lockdown. This paper examines the urgent need for comprehensive renovation and tourism design concepts to restore and enhance the park's appeal based on the opinions of Paggora Water Tourism visitors using quantitative methods, which will be analyzed using multiple linear regression techniques, ultimately providing a design concept that will fit with the service quality and visitor satisfaction. Five independent variables will be tested with the dependent variable (visitor satisfaction): tangible, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. The results of the quantitative analysis show that the variables influencing visitor satisfaction are the tangible (positive influence) and the assurance variable (negative influence). The proposed design concept aims to apply the results of survey and quantitative analysisimproving facilities or physical forms to increase visitor satisfactioncreating an engaging and memorable visitor experience. These findings also highlight the renovation process that the team undertook and the potential for Paggora Water Park to serve as a model for similar facilities facing maintenance and resource challenges

Abstract

This study examines the spatial-institutional configurations of community-based production cooperatives in two dense urban kampungs, Kampung Penjahit (Denpasar) and Kampung Lontong (Surabaya), and their implications for architectural and urban design discourse. A comparative qualitative–quantitative case study was conducted, integrating non-participant observation, in-depth interviews, 1–5 scale perception questionnaires, settlement morphology mapping, and dwelling typological diagramming. Qualitative data were thematically coded in NVivo 15, while perception data were analysed using the Kruskal–Wallis test in SPSS. Findings reveal two contrasting configurations. Kampung Lontong displays a cooperative-mediated model characterised by compact-clustered morphology, with the cooperative functioning as an institutional-spatial anchor, an alley network operating as a production corridor, and productive social capital. Kampung Penjahit displays an individuated production model marked by linear-dispersed morphology, autonomous dwelling-as-workshop units, and a religious association performing only a symbolic role; nevertheless, residents exhibit higher work discipline and superior arterial-road and parking access. The spatial-institutional configuration framework serves as a typological example for the design of inclusive productive villages in dense Southeast Asian cities.

Abstract

Contracted houses, or landed rental houses, were developed spontaneously by homeowners as the cheapest alternative for renting houses with flexible contracts. Therefore, landed rental homes are not designed to suit the needs of tenants, and several variations will occur in landed rental homes as a form of adjustment for the owner. Adaptation is significant in the process of building a house. However, given the limited time context in rental housing, the adaptation process is interesting to study more deeply. Gresik is a developing district, and the large number of industries in Gresik has triggered many migrants, most of whom are industrial workers and rent houses on site. This study identifies the adjustment of semi-fixed features and analyzes the adaptation pattern in three types of landed rental houses—40, 50, and 60 m2—using the descriptive-qualitative method. The techniques used here are in-depth interviews, on-the-spot sketches, and observations. From the research that has been done, it was found that each type of landed rental houses has their own adaptation pattern. Generality pattern was found in all the three types, while the flexibility pattern was found in the second and third types.

Abstract

Behavior aspects cover response of interaction between human and places, showing existence of interactive spaces that not only describes behavior but also the place character. Currently, the level of need for human social and economic interaction is increasingly binding. Purpose of this study is to identify behavior of users in public space especially in utilizing space when they carry out social and economic activities simultaneously, and to question whether the creation of public space can reflect the character of identity. Activities to be observed are in residential corridor of Sekarbela, Mataram City. This space is used daily as space for social and economic interaction. This is qualitative research using grounded theory and case study. Data collection techniques were carried out by observation, description, and documentation. Interactive analysis model is used with descriptive analysis of behavior setting in Sekarbela corridor. The results show that social and economic activities are behavior identities in public space of urban settlement. The routine activities of production, distribution, and consumption in this area unwittingly make this space unified and give more meaning to a public space; not only perceived social and economic space separately but intertwined each other and makes the public space more vibrant.

Abstract

The development of public activity spaces in traditional fishing communities due to urbanization and the growth of tourism has led to changes in existing territories. This requires them to adjust to these changes. This research aims to understand how fishing communities maintain their territories through spatial practices, social interactions, and territorial definitions after the changes. The research method used is qualitative phenomenology, to explore the organization of social interaction, identity, security, and territorial stimulation of the community in public activity spaces. Through observations and interviews, it was found that fishermen's territoriality, in addition to functioning as a defense, also plays an important role in strengthening social relations. The unique factors that shape the concept of fishermen's territoriality, namely dependence on income sources, egalitarian social structure, and a strong spirit of gotong royong, produce a concept of spatial interaction that is different from other neighborhoods.
