Abstract

This experiment aimed to evaluate the effect of bromelain enzyme supplementation in a late-laying period diet on blood metabolite and blood profile parameters. A total of 200 Isa Brown at late laying period hens, 85 weeks of age, were randomly distributed into four dietary treatments and fed for eight weeks. The bromelain enzyme was used at the level of 0% (control diet), 0.025%, 0.050%, and 0.075%. Each treatment was replicated five times. Experimental design data were analyzed using ANOVA and Duncan multiple range test. Bromelain supplementation had a significant effect on the concentration of blood protein (p<0.01), reduced blood cholesterol (p<0.05), and increased concentration of immunoglobulin Y (IgY) (p<0.05). It is concluded that supplementation at dosages 0.05% and 0.075% of bromelain can improve the birds' immunity by increasing the IgY content in blood serum. supplementation at 0.05% reduces blood cholesterol and increases blood protein. Key words: blood metabolite, blood profile, bromelain, IgY, late laying period

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the utilization of liquid probiotics from black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) fermentation on broiler chickens' performance. A total of 250 male broilers strain Cobb CP 707 were given 5 treatments of probiotics in drinking water with 5 replications using a completely randomized design. The treatments in this study were P0=commercial broiler feed+drinking water without probiotics, P1=commercial broiler chicken feed+ drinking water with 1 mL L-1 commercial probiotic, P2=commercial broiler chicken feed+water with 1 mL L-1 probiotics from BSFL fermentation, P3=commercial boiler chicken feed+water with 3 mL L-1 probiotics from BSFL fermentation, and P4=commercial broiler chicken feed+water with 5 mL L-1 probiotics from BSFL fermentation. The results showed that BSFL fermentation probiotics were not significantly different on broiler chicken performance. Income over feed and chick cost (IOFCC) in addition to 5 mL L-1 in drinking water was more efficient in saving feed cost and the highest performance index during the broiler rearing. In conclusion, the utilization of BSFL fermentation probiotics in drinking water gave the same effect on broiler chicken performance as the other treatments yet the IOFCC and broiler chicken performance index were more advantageous. Key words: black soldier fly larvae, broiler, performance, probiotics

Abstract

The increase in demand for feed impacts the availability of feed ingredients such as soybean meal (SBM), which is still 100% derived from imports. This study aimed to analyze the factors impacting the import of SBM as a crucial feed ingredient in Indonesia, offering insights for governmental policy-making. Secondary data spanning 2019-2022, encompassing SBM import quantities, price, and quality, were sourced from the Import Service Recommendation System. Additionally, annual feed production data were obtained from the Feed Directorate Information System, overseen by the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health, Ministry of Agriculture, Republic of Indonesia. SBM prices were sourced from World Bank online data. The dataset spanned four years (2019-2022), each comprising twelve months, with eight parameters under examination. Multiple linear regression was employed to evaluate the influence of independent variables including price upon arrival in Indonesia (USD), moisture content, protein content, crude fiber content, crude fat content, feed production, and the world price (USD) on the dependent variable of import volume. The results showed that all independent variables significantly affect the volume of SBM imports. Partially, variables like feed production, international prices, prices upon arrival in Indonesia, and moisture content have a significant and negative effect on SBM imports. The coefficient of determination shows that the independent variables explain 66.1% of the import volume of SBM. The study highlights critical factors influencing SBM imports in Indonesia. Effective policies addressing these factors could enhance the sustainability of the poultry farming industry. Key words: animal feed, import, linear regression, soybean meal

Abstract

High-productivity laying poultry during the production period may experience bone problems, as structural medullary bone is progressively absorbed to supply calcium for eggshell formation. This study aims to evaluate the usage of different particle sizes of limestone (fine (0,025mm), and coarse (1mm)), and split feeding system (morning (8 am) and afternoon (15 pm)) on laying quail productivity. This research used 160 quail aged 18 weeks, which is reared up to 23 weeks. A complete randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 4 replicates was used in this study. Each replicate consisted of 10 quails. The cages used were multilevel colonies equipped with feed and drink containers. The diet treatments were: P0= diet contained fine (FL) and coarse (CL) limestone at a (25:25): (25:25) ratio fed in the morning and afternoon, P1= diet contained 75FL-(Morning): 25CL-(Afternoon), P2= diet contained 50FL-(Morning):50CL-(Afternoon) and P3= diet contained 25FL-(Morning):75CL-(Afternoon). Data were analyzed using ANOVA and further analyzed using the Duncan test. The results showed that the ration treatment with limestone divided into fine and coarse forms with split feeding in the morning and evening significantly increased (p<0.05) tibia bone Ca and P content but decreased (p<0.05) feed conversion. However, it increased (p<0.05) quail egg index value. Feeding calcium at a ratio of 25% (morning) and 75% (afternoon) resulted in the highest ration utilization efficiency, Ca and P deposits in the tibia bone, and increased egg index values. Abstract

This study evaluated the effects of cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) leaves extract (CLE) in drinking water on the performance and health profile of IPB-D1 chickens. Cassava leaves are known to contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and saponins which have antioxidant and antibacterial properties. These compounds can provide positive effects such as feed efficiency, improving growth performance and health status of chickens by improving the immune system and reducing oxidative stress. Cassava leaves extract acts as a phytogenic additive that can be given in livestock drinking water. This study used 180 IPB-D1 chickens aged 2–8 weeks were randomly assigned to three treatments: CLE0 (control), CLE1 (17 ml/l CLE), and CLE2 (50 ml/l CLE). Parameters observed included growth performance, organ morphometry, hematological profiles, and ileal histology. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s post hoc test (p<0.05). cassava leaves extract supplementation did not adversely affect growth or feed intake. Final body weight and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were not significantly different among the groups. A reduction in leukocyte counts was observed, particularly in the CLE2 group, with a relative increase in heterophils, though values remained within physiological limits. Histological analysis revealed a significant increase in villus surface area in the CLE2 group, followed by CLE1, compared to the control (CLE0), suggesting enhanced intestinal morphology and nutrient absorption potential. Cassava leaves extract can be given in the drinking water of IPB-D1 chickens without disrupting their performance and health profile. These findings indicate that cassava leaves extract can improve gut structure without compromising performance, supporting its application as a safe and beneficial phytogenic additive in poultry diets.
