Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is one of the incurable cronic diseases. The patient’s dietary obedience is a principal component in diabetes treatment success. One of the efforts to increase dietary obedience behavior in type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients is using a Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME) principles approach. Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME) is the ongoing process of facilitating knowledge, skill and ability necessary for diabetes self care. The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of DSME principles approach toward the dietary obedience behavior that consists of knowledge, attitude, and practice aspects in patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at Puskesmas Kebonsari Surabaya. Methods: A quasy experimental design was used in this study with 24 people as the sample which taken by using purposive sampling and divided into two groups (treatment and control group). A structured questionnaire and daily meal note for seven days were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed by using Wilcoxon signed rank test and Mann Whitney U test with significant level α≤0.05. Result: The results showed that there was an influence of DSME principles approach after being applied to the treatment group and control group toward the dietary knowledge with the value of p=0.004 and p=0.083 respectively, the attitude of dietary obedience with p=0.025 and p=0.083 and the dietary obedience practice with p=0.002 and p=0.564.Discussion: The study showed that DSME approach had a significant influence toward the dietary obedience behavior in type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients. DSME principles approach used learning based on patient empowerment and behavior strategies. Ongoing support also contributed in maintaining progress achieved so that resulting dietary obedience behavior in type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients. Larger respondents, more proper instruments and longer duration of study are needed to get a better results of the study concerning diabetic patient’s obedience in the future.

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus’s with high blood glucose level is at a risk to get ulcus diabeticum because do not do the foot care. The aimed of this research was to examine effectivity of foot care education by guidance motion picture and leaflet media in Diabetes mellitus type 2’s behavior in Puskesmas Loceret. Methods: This research was using quasy-experiment with pretest-posttest control group design. The population were Diabetes mellitus type 2’s at Puskesmas Loceret working area. This research used 3 group, they were treatment group (guidance motion picture+leaflet), positive control group 1 (guidance motion picture), and positive control group 2 (leaflet), each group consisted of 10 respondents taken according to purposive sampling from January-March 2014. Data were collected using questionnaire and observation and then analyzed using Wilcoxon signed rank test and Kruskal-Wallis test with level of significance <0.05.Result: Results showed that increasing knowledge is significant for treatment group (p=0.005), the positive control group 1 (p=0.011), the positive control group 2 (p=0.097). Analysis of attitude for all group (p=0.005). Analysis of action for treatment group (p=0.005), positive control group 1 (p=0.006), the positive control group 2 (p=0.011). There are different effectivity between guidance motion picture+leaflet combination, guidance motion picture, and leaflet in increasing knowledge (p=0.047), attitude (0.022), and action (p=0.037).Discussion: It can be concluded that education with guidance motion picture+leaflet combination, guidance motion picture, and leaflet media influence non ulcus foot care behavior, but for leaflet, it does not influence their knowledge. So, nurses can use one of that media to get effective influence when giving health education to Diabetes mellitus type 2’s. Further research should evaluate other factors of knowledge, attitude, and action also do direct observation of action to gain more accurate data.

Abstract

Introduction :  Mobilization is important to optimize body’s physiological function. The inhibiting factors of patient who doesn’t less motivation do mobilization are pain of surgery wound, afraid to move the extremity. One effort to improve the mobilization’s need is socialization of phone alarm as a reminder. The aims of this study was to analyze the effect of phone alarm socialization to mobilization in patient with post laparatomy surgery.Method : This study used pre-experiment design through one – shot case study. The samples taken were 14 patients with post laparatomy surgery at Gladiol surgery room in Dr. Soetomo Hospital of Surabaya period December 2013 to January 2014. The independent variable was phone alarm socialization, the dependent variable was mobilization in patients with post laparatomy surgery.Result : Based on this study, the mobilization in patients with post laparotomy surgery after being given phone alarm socialization, they were doing good in 8-24 hours, good enough in 36-48 hours, and less good in 60-72 hours after surgery.Discussion : It can be conclude that phone alarm socilization have effect to the mobilization in patients with post laparatomy surgery. Further research related to  the effect of phone alarm socialization to the mobilization of post laparotomy surgery at rehabilitation ward is needed.

Abstract

Introduction: On the banks of the Kalimas River, Indonesia, drowning cases often occur because many people fish and swim in the river, especially when the munggut phenomenon occurs (fish die due to toxic factory waste being thrown into the river), but when drowning cases occur there are actually many people. feel afraid and confused about providing assistance to drowning victims. Objective of this research is to analyze what factors are related to self-efficacy in helping drowning victims based on Albert Bandura's Theory of Self-Efficacy.   Methods: This study was a correlational descriptive research with a cross-sectional design. The population in this study were all residents of the Kalimas Riverbanks, Gresik Regency. This research involved 146 respondents who live on the river banks in Gading Village, Wates Village, and Cangki Village using a cluster sampling technique. This research variable refers to Theory of Self-Efficacy including enactive mastery, vicariously experience, verbal persuasion, physiological and emotional state and self-efficacy. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using a logistic regression test with a significance level of ≤ 0.05.   Results: The results of statistical tests show a significant correlation between enactive mastery (p=0.001), vicarious experience (p=0.004), and verbal persuasion (p=0.000) with self-efficacy. In contrast, physiological and emotional state did not show a significant correlation with self-efficacy.   Conclusion: The higher the level of enactive mastery, vicarious experience, and verbal persuasion, the better the self-efficacy in helping drowning victims. This provides input for health workers and local government, as well as for further research, in increasing self-efficacy and the ability of residents to help drowning victims.

Abstract

Introduction: Active faults in Surabaya move at 0.05 millimeters per year, causing earthquakes. Disaster preparedness is crucial for safety, reducing risks, enhance capabilities, and mitigate the impact of disasters. This study analyzes the relationship between knowledge, social support, and earthquake preparedness in Surabaya using the Precede-Proceed model.  Methods: The method used in this study was correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The total population of the study was 11,062 Ngagel residents, and a sample of 386 respondents from the Ngagel district was selected through purposive sampling. The independent variables in this study were knowledge and social support, while the dependent variable was the disaster preparedness behaviors of the local residents in facing earthquakes. The data were collected through a questionnaire and analyzed with logistic regression tests with a significance level of p≤0.05.  Results: The analysis results showed that there was a significant relationship between knowledge (p=0.000) and social support (p=0.000) with disaster preparedness behaviors. Conclusion: Knowledge and social support have a positive relationship with disaster preparedness behavior, indicating a direct correlation. It is hoped that future researchers can conduct research with a wider range and add other factors that can initiate maladaptive responses.
