Abstract

Metabolism in the body is influenced by electrolytes. If the electrolyte concentration is abnormal, health problems will occur. Drinks that contain electrolytes are known as isotonic drinks. The kidneys are organs that play a role in body balance, such as controlling body fluids and maintaining the balance between acidic and alkaline compounds. It is important to check BUN and creatinine to determine kidney function. The aim of the research was to analyze the effect of giving isotonic drinks on the results of BUN and creatinine examinations in mice. This type of research is experimental which uses serum from test animals in the form of mice (Mus musculus). The test animals were divided into 5 groups and each group was treated for 14 days. Then after 14 days the test animals were sampled to check BUN and creatinine levels to determine the effect of giving isotonic drinks. All data is processed statistically using SPSS. The results of the ANOVA test obtained a Sig value. 0.878 on BUN levels and Sig values. 0.265 in creatinine levels. Conclusion: With the H0 criteria rejected if the significant value is 0.05 then H0 is accepted which can state that giving isotonic drinks with volumes of 0.5 ml, 0.8 ml and 1 ml has no effect on the results of checking BUN and creatinine levels.

Abstract

Adherence to Pedoman Gizi Seimbang is one of important part of non-communicable diseases prevention. Diet quality and quantity need to be assessed, thus it can detect the risk of non-communicable diseases. Healthy Eating Index (HEI) has been used in many previous studies as an indicator to examine the relationship between diet quality and disease biomarker, like fasting blood glucose (FBG). In Indonesia, the HEI has been modified to Indeks Gizi Seimbang (IGS). However there is no study that examine the relationship between IGS score and biomarker such as FBG yet. This study objective was to analyze the correlation between IGS score and FBG in adult in SDN X Sidoarjo. A cross sectional study design with 30 respondents. IGS4-105 score was measured by 2-days repeated 24h-recall, while FBG by using Glucostick method. Mann Whitney and Spearman test were performed to analyze the study results. The respondents' vegetable intake was relatively low (55.4 grams/day), while the intake of total fat (32.6%-e), saturated fat (16.7%-e), and added sugar (6.8%-e) were excessive. The intake of vegetables and non-dairy animal foods was significantly different between normal FBG group and high FBG group (respectively p value: 0.046, 0.011). The mean score of IGS4-105 was 52.3. There was no significant relationship between the IGS4-105 score and the FBG, but a positive relationship was found between the IGS score for animal foods and the FBG (r = 0.38; p = 0.04). A higher FBG was found in the group with a higher animal food IGS score.

Abstract

Background: Magnesium is an electrolyte that plays an important role in the body's reactions, because if there is a lack or too much magnesium it will cause organ dysfunction and even a person's death. That is the reason why errors in magnesium measurements can create serious conditions for patients if laboratory results are inaccurate. The hemoconcentration state of the sample can influence the final results obtained. The aim of the study was to determine the difference between tourniquet application techniques and the results of serum magnesium levels. Methods: This type of research is experimental research. In the first group of treatments, a tourniquet was dabbed which was maintained only until the vein could be accessed and the second group was dabbed with a tourniquet until the blood drawn reached the desired volume at the research object, measured and collected at the same time. Then the serum magnesium test was measured. Results:Research results on differences in tourniquet application techniques in serum magnesium examination. This research involved 20 respondents with a total sample of 40 samples (respondents' blood was taken twice). The research results mean magnesium levels with the released tourniquet technique were 2.8 mg/dL, higher than the second intervention, namely the tourniquet technique which was maintained at 2.5 mg/dL. The statistical results of the paired T-test carried out obtained data with a p-value of 0.849, which means p-value > 0.05. Conclusion: There was no significant difference between magnesium levels with the tourniquet removed and the tourniquet maintained to a volume of 3 cc.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a disease caused by the Dengue virus which is transmitted through the Aedes aegypti mosquito. DHF is caused by the Dengue virus whose main vector is the Aedes aegypti mosquito and the secondary vector is the Aedes albopictus mosquito. Eradicating Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus is one way that can be done to prevent the spread of the Dengue virus. Control of the dengue vector can be carried out on larvae and adult mosquitoes with the aim of breaking the chain of transmission. One way that can be done is by using a natural larvicide which utilizes the Allium fistulosum plant which contains secondary metabolite compounds including phenolics, flavonoids and tannins which can kill larvae. This study aims to determine the comparison of variations in the concentration of Allium fistulosum leaf extract on the mortality of Aedes aegypti instar III. The type of research used in this research was experimental with a completely randomized design (RAL). The potential level of the extract is reviewed from the Lethal Concentration (LC50) and Lethal Time (LT50) values. The data obtained were analyzed using a probit regression test or probit analysis to determine the potential of Allium fistulosum extract as an alternative larvicide for third instar Aedes aegypti larvae and stated as Lethal Concentration (LC50) and Lethal Time (LT50) with a confidence level of 95.0%. The results of the research show that Allium f istulosum leaf extract has the potential as an alternative larvicide for the death of third instar Aedes aegypti larvae as proven by a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05) with a value of LC50-6 hours is 52.850%, LC50-8 hours is 42.674%, LC50-24 hours is 30.900%, LT50-20% is 37.674 hours, LT50-30% is 24.423 hours and LT50-40% is 14.954 hours.

Abstract

Synthetic insecticides containing highly effective active substances such as DEET (N,N-diethyl-meta toluamide) to prevent and control Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever can have adverse effects on health and the environment. Kawista leaves (Limonia acidissima) have the potential as a natural insecticide against Aedes aegypti mosquitoes because they contain secondary metabolite compounds namely phenols, flavonoids, saponins, and terpenoids. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the repellent power of kawista leaf extract (Limonia acidissima) against Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. This study used experimental method with post-test only control group design. The sample used was 25 adult of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in each treatment. The ethanol extract of kawista leaves was made in the form of a spray with a concentration of 25%, 50% concentration, and 75% concentration. The 25% concentration, 50% concentration, and 75% concentration of kawista leaf extract have an effective repellent power against Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, namely 15.22%, 46.20%, and 70.08%, respectively. The results of the analysis of kawista leaf extract against Aedes aegypti mosquitoes obtained ED50 (Effective Dose 50) at a concentration of 60.343% and ED99 (Effective Dose 99) at a concentration of 124.452%. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that kawista leaves have the ability to repel Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.
