Abstract

This study investigates the consumption behavior of santri (Islamic boarding school students) within the framework of Islamic economics at Miftahul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Banyuputih Kidul, Lumajang. It aims to examine how students adopt the principles of halal (permissible), thayyib (wholesome), and moderation in their daily consumption practices. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation from selected students and school staff. The study reveals that most students display a basic awareness of Islamic consumption ethics, shaped by religious education and pesantren discipline. Nevertheless, their behavior is often challenged by modern consumption trends, peer influence, and financial constraints. The presence of a sharia-compliant cooperative within the pesantren supports efforts to align practice with Islamic economic values. The study concludes that while the foundation for ethical consumption is present, consistent reinforcement and practical support are necessary to bridge the gap between knowledge and behavior. These findings have implications for the integration of value-based consumption education in Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

The Muslim community has grown to be the world’s largest population. Muslims have become a priority for business people and manufacturers who understand Muslim life patterns. Nowadays, manufacturers do not hesitate to use the halal label to reap huge revenues from Muslims. According to the GIE-report for 2019 to 2020, Muslim expenditure on the purchase of goods and services in six industries of food, finance, medicine, cosmetics, fashion, and travel and tourism has reached 2.2 trillion with 5.2% YoY growth from 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide. This draws a rosy picture of the development of the halal industry that Muslims have turned into a potential market. Products adhering to Islamic law are what manufacturers must consider having their goods sold well. The sharia trend has become a new lifestyle, particularly for millennials. The rise of Islamophobia is one of the reasons for the ascending trend of sharia-compliant lifestyles in the modern age. This paper highlights the sharia modes of consumption practiced by Muslims by employing literature review as a research methodology. Referring to the Marshallian demand function, the higher the demand, the higher the satisfaction, yet, even if it is labeled halal, the additional satisfaction decreases. This is in stark contrast to Ibn Taymiyah asserting that market demand depends on shifting preferences. Muslims are increasingly focused on the halal lifestyle due to ever-changing tastes based on economic reasoning.

Abstract

This study explores the formulation of sustainable household financial management through the integration of Green House practices and ḥalāl budget allocation, grounded in Ibn Khaldūn’s social change theory. Employing a qualitative library research method supported by secondary data from national statistics and field observations in Indonesian villages, the study finds that conventional household consumption patterns—driven by overconsumption and digital spending habits—have contributed to both environmental degradation and financial instability. The proposed model promotes financial planning that balances consumption, saving, investment, and charitable giving (zakāh, infāq, ṣadaqah), while integrating eco-conscious practices such as waste banks, Sustainable Food House Areas (KRPL), and Climate Resilient Integrated Service Posts (Postaklim). This research contributes to global Islamic finance and sustainability literature by introducing a maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah-aligned household finance framework that operationalizes ethical budgeting and environmental stewardship. It offers a novel interdisciplinary perspective by combining green economy principles with Islamic economic ethics to promote long-term household financial resilience. The model may serve as a benchmark for international studies aiming to develop culturally contextualized frameworks for sustainable finance at the microeconomic level. Future research could apply this model across diverse socio-economic and cultural settings or test its impact quantitatively on household welfare and environmental outcomes.

Abstract

Eco Halal Food is a new term in the food industry. Eco Halal Food is a continuation of eco food, namely food that provides safety not only for humans but also for the environment. Eco food is one of the business models for food from processed plants that has an impact on health and community empowerment. But in the current context, eco food in food is not enough, because it cannot be internationally competitive. Thus, eco food coupled with halal food are two food safety concepts that have their own standardization, and can become a new discovery, namely eco halal food, a food concept that is not only halalan thoyyibah, but also has a positive impact on empowering the surrounding community and a sustainable environment. So this research aims; the first describes the development of eco Halal food in the Sustainable Food Home Area (KRPL), the second analyzes the design of SDGs-based economic development through the development of eco halal food. Achievement of the objectives was carried out using a research method, namely a qualitative approach with the type of phenomenological research. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews, documentation and extension of observations at the location. Data analysis used the Miles Huberman model with a phenomenological analysis model. So the results of this study state that the first thing to do is to empower women in managing food at KRPL. So as to produce various food variants that are managed from upstream to downstream. Second, the design of the economic development carried out seeks to achieve the 17 goals of the SDGs coupled with sharia elements as a new combination in realizing sustainable development.DOI: https://doi.org/10.33005/jgp.v11i02.416

Abstract

This paper purposes are firsly; describe the presence of the obligation of halal certification for the economy of the people. The second, to analyze the effectiveness of halal certification obligations for business actors in increasing the competitiveness of their products in the markets. The third,to analyze the positioning pattern of halal certification in the contestation of religion, market and state. These purposes were reviewed using literature review and case studies. The collecting data with observations, interviews, document review. Data were also obtained from internet sources and previous studies. The data is analyzed using the level of business competition effectiveness and critical analysis related to the contestation of religion, market and state by requiring halal certification for all entrepreneurs. The results of this study, firstly, the obligation of halal certification is present as a form of security and consumer protection from various forms of products that cannot be responsibility. Second, the level of effectiveness of halal certification for business competition of business owners depends on the market segmentation. If the target market is the national and international market, halal certification was effective in increasing market competitiveness. However, the local segmentation of halal certification has not been efficient in the process, thus denying its effectiveness. Third; halal which became the study of religion turned into a study of the market and the state, so that market contestation became dominant and led to repression by the state. Thus, the positioning of halal certification is no longer a religious study, but has turned into a market and state study.
