Abstract

Literacy skills in reading and numeracy in Indonesia are classified as low, so the government has made new policies, one of which is the application of questions based on the Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM) in the National Assessment. Observation results from several high schools in Pekanbaru, Riau, have not shown the application of AKM questions to biology learning. This research aimed to produce AKM-based reading and numeracy literacy instruments on high school plant and animal bioprocess materials used in Research and Development (R&D) design, where the subjects were grade XII students at three high schools in Pekanbaru city. Data collection instruments were the test instruments that had been developed. Data were analyzed using Rasch modelling assisted by Winstep software, including Wright map analysis, person capability analysis, item capability analysis, scalogram analysis, and question item analysis. The results show that most students have a logic score below 0.0, meaning that reading and numeracy literacy skills and understanding concepts are still low. Four out of 63 students have inappropriate answer patterns, indicating that students did not work on the questions seriously. Then, the analysis results show 14 fit questions; having a Cronbach alpha value of 0.84 with a very high interpretation, a person reability value of 0.77 with sufficient interpretation, and an item reability value of 0.92 in the very high category; the difficulty level of the question items is in line with the rules of the test instrument development, since there is a spread of difficulty of the question items starting from very difficult, hard, medium, easy, and very easy. Thus, it is concluded that the instrument test can be used to measure reading literacy and numeracy skills based on AKM on plant and animal bioprocess materials.

Abstract

Based on the analysis, students lack references and in-depth, relevant material content, and still use open printed materials. This results in students' mental models of virus material being unscientific, and their problem-solving skills being low. For this reason, an e-module integrated with Augmented Reality (AR) can be an effective solution. This study aims to develop E-VIRA (E-Module Virus Integrated with Augmented Reality) to improve students' mental models and problem-solving skills. The research method employed is Research and Development (R&D), utilizing the ADDIE stages from inception to development and trial. Data collection instruments include expert validation sheets and cloze tests (for readability). Data analysis techniques are carried out descriptively and quantitatively to calculate the percentage of validity and readability. Participants were selected using purposive sampling, involving grade X high school students. The results showed that E-VIRA was very valid, with a percentage of 97% and 96% from expert validators, and a readability level of 82%. Thus, E-VIRA shows good feasibility and validity. The recommendation of this study is to continue the trial of E-VIRA on a larger scale to measure effectiveness in significantly improving students' mental models and problem-solving skills, as well as explore its application to other abstract biological concepts.

Abstract

Habits of mind is one of the dimensions of long-term learning that allow productive actions to occur and can produce positive student character in solving problems in their lives. The importance of habits of mind is in contrast to the ability of habits of mind of students in one of the high schools in Bandung City which is still low. Based on this, the researcher aims to analyze the biology learning process carried out by teachers to further understand the factors that influence students' habits of mind. The method used in this research is quantitative descriptive. The sample was chosen using convenience sampling, so that 34 samples were obtained from class X students and biology teacher at one of the state high schools in Bandung City. The research results show that the low level of students' habits of mind is because teacher has not implemented how to develop students' habits of mind in classroom learning. Differentiated learning, student centers, reflection activities, and learning independence in using resources are the next researchers' recommendations for interventions to improve students' habits of mind.
