Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan Strategi Reciprocal Teaching dapat secara signifikan meningkatkan pemahaman membaca teks narasi siswa di SMP Negeri 2 Siantar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian quasi eksperimen. Populasinya adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Siantar yang berjumlah 263 siswa. Dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling, dipilih dua kelas sebagai sampel penelitian, yaitu kelas eksperimen (VIII-1) dan kelas kontrol (VIII-3), masing-masing kelas terdiri dari 30 siswa. Instrumen pengumpulan data menggunakan pilihan ganda untuk pre-test dan post-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata post-test di kelas eksperimen adalah 73,1 dan rata-rata post-test di kelas kontrol adalah 65. Setelah peneliti menemukan bahwa Thitung lebih tinggi dari Ttabel (2,066 > 1,672) pada taraf signifikansi 5%. . Berdasarkan hasil temuan Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan Reciprocal Teaching Strategy (RTS) secara signifikan meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa di SMP Negeri 2 Siantar dalam pemahaman membaca teks naratif.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan Know-Want-Learn (KWL) pada siswa kelas sepuluh SMK Swasta Persiapan Pematang Siantar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian quasi eksperimen. Populasinya adalah siswa kelas sepuluh SMK Swasta Persiapan Pematang Siantar yang berjumlah 188 siswa. Sampel penelitian ini dibagi menjadi dua kelas yaitu kelas eksperimen (X-TITL) berjumlah 30 siswa yang menggunakan strategi KWL dan kelas kontrol (X-TKR 2) berjumlah 30 siswa yang menggunakan strategi konvensional. Instrumen pengumpulan data menggunakan pilihan ganda untuk pre-test dan post-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata post-test pada kelas eksperimen adalah 73,01 dan rata-rata post-test pada kelas kontrol adalah 65,78. Setelah itu peneliti menemukan bahwa thitung lebih tinggi dari ttabel (1,835 > 1,672) pada tingkat signifikansi 5%. Dari hasil tersebut, dapat dilihat bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari penggunaan KWL yang digunakan untuk mengajar pemahaman membaca. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan strategi Know-Want-Learn (KWL) secara signifikan meningkatkan kemampuan siswa di SMK Swasta Persiapan Pematang Siantar dalam pemahaman membaca teks recount.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan strategi mendengarkan-membaca-diskusi terhadap prestasi siswa kelas sebelas dalam mendengarkan teks deskriptif di SMK Persiapan Pematang Siantar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian quasi eksperimen. Populasinya adalah siswa kelas XI SMK Swasta Persiapan Pematang Siantar yang berjumlah 170 siswa. Sampel penelitian ini dibagi menjadi dua kelas yaitu kelas eksperimen (XI TAV) yang berjumlah 30 siswa yang menggunakan strategi mendengarkan-baca-diskusi (LRD) dan kelas kontrol (XI TKRO) yang berjumlah 30 siswa yang menggunakan strategi konvensional. Instrumen pengumpulan data menggunakan pilihan ganda untuk pre-test dan post-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata post-test di kelas eksperimen adalah 73,4 dan rata-rata post-test di kelas kontrol adalah 66. Setelah itu peneliti menemukan bahwa Thitung lebih tinggi dari Ttabel (2,110 > 1,672) pada taraf signifikansi adalah 5%. Berdasarkan hasil temuan Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) secara signifikan meningkatkan kemampuan siswa di SMK Swasta Persiapan Pematang Siantar dalam pemahaman mendengarkan teks deskriptif.

Abstract

Masalah penelitian ini dapat dilihat dari komponen-komponen berbicara sebagai berikut: kurangnya kosakata, tata bahasa, prosodi, kefasihan dan pelafalan siswa dalam bahasa Inggris. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh video tongue twister terhadap kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas sepuluh di Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) Tamansiswa Pematangsiantar dalam imitative speaking. Metode dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain kuasi eksperimen. Peneliti menggunakan kelompok kontrol dan kelompok eksperimen. Penelitian ini menggunakan pre-test dan post-test. Lokasi penelitian ini di Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) Tamansiswa Pematangsiantar. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X. Peneliti menggunakan purposive sampling dan diperoleh kelas X-5 dan X-6 yang berjumlah 68 siswa. Hasil temuan dalam analysis data adalah nilai t-hitung diperoleh sebesar 3,097 dan nilai t-table pada taraf 5% adalah 1,668. Pada kelas eksperimen, nilai rata-rata pre-test sebesar 62.2 dan post-test sebesar 82.9. Pada kelas kontrol, nilai rata-rata pre-test sebesar 60,2 dan post-test sebesar 72,2. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan video tongue twister efektif untuk keterampilan berbicara siswa. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan didukung oleh beberapa penelitian terdahulu, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan Video Tongue Twister sebagai media sangat efektif terhadap keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas X SMA Swasta Tamansiswa Pematangsiantar.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi dampak dari Permainan Wordwall terhadap penguasaan kosakata di antara siswa kelas delapan di SMP Taman Siswa Pematangsiantar untuk tahun ajaran 2024/2025. Menggunakan desain kuasi-eksperimental dengan pendekatan kuantitatif, penelitian ini melibatkan dua kelas: kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Populasi terdiri dari delapan kelas yang berjumlah 284 siswa, dengan kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol masing-masing terdiri dari 31 siswa. Kelas eksperimen adalah kelas VIII-A, sedangkan kelas kontrol adalah kelas VIII-C, yang dipilih secara purposive sampling. Analisis data menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata pre-test untuk kelas eksperimen adalah 54,50, sedangkan nilai post-test meningkat menjadi 75,17. Pada kelas kontrol, rata-rata skor pre-test adalah 56,00, dengan skor post-test 73,97. Hasil uji-t menunjukkan nilai signifikansi (Sig) sebesar 0,000, yang menunjukkan adanya pengaruh yang signifikan dari Permainan Wordwall terhadap penguasaan kosakata. Oleh karena itu, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima, dan hipotesis nol (H0) ditolak, yang menegaskan bahwa Permainan Wordwall berpengaruh positif terhadap penguasaan kosakata di antara siswa kelas delapan. Abstract

The goal of this research is to ascertain to implement of using short animation movie method on listening comprehension of students grade eight The objective of this research is to find out whether there is significant effect of using short animation movie method on listening comprehension of grade eight students of SMP Negeri 2 Pematangsiantar. This research was quantitative research in the form of experimental design. The data obtained in the form of data on student test scores. In the experimental class, the pre-test scores ranged from a minimum value of 2 to a maximum value of 44, with a mean score of 19.32 and a standard deviation of 11.545. Following the intervention, the post-test scores ranged from a minimum value of 24 to a maximum value of 78, with an average (mean) score of 51.03 and a standard deviation of 13.205. This significant improvement highlights the effectiveness of using short animation movies in enhancing students' listening comprehension skills. Conversely, the control class exhibited pre-test scores ranging from a minimum value of 4 to a maximum value of 40, with a mean score of 21.03 and a standard deviation of 9.061. The post-test scores for this group ranged from a minimum value of 20 to a maximum value of 92, with an average (mean) score of 58.84 and a standard deviation of 14.531. While the control class also showed improvement, the progress was less pronounced compared to the experimental class, underscoring the advantages of implementing short animation movies as a teaching tool. Overall, the findings support the conclusion that utilizing short animation movies significantly enhances listening comprehension ability among students. The results indicate that this engaging and interactive approach effectively promotes listening skill development, highlighting the importance of innovative teaching methods in educational practices.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan di SMP Swasta Muhammadiyah 55, Kandangan, Kabupaten Simalungun, yang merupakan salah satu bidang prioritas Universitas HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar dalam melaksanakan pelayanan. Melalui hasil observasi di lapangan, disebutkan bahwa guru-guru di sekolah tersebut belum memahami bagaimana menerapkan, merancang, dan membuat media pembelajaran yang berdiferensiasi sesuai dengan Kurikulum Merdeka. Selain itu, belum ada guru yang lulus sebagai Guru Penggerak untuk membantu menerapkan Kurikulum Merdeka. Oleh karena itu, tim pengabdian melaksanakan kegiatan pelatihan di SMP Swasta Muhammadiyah 55 Kandangan dengan tujuan meningkatkan keterampilan 13 Guru di sekolah mitra dalam melaksanakan pembelajaran berdiferensiasi sesuai dengan Kurikulum Merdeka. Kegiatan pelatihan yang dilakukan oleh tim pengabdian berjalan dengan lancar dan melalui hasil evaluasi menunjukkan keberhasilan yang tinggi baik pada guru SMP Muhammadyah 55 Kandangan, maupun secara umum bagi seluruh guru yang mengikuti pelatihan..

Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), has transformed English language learning, including the development of students’ writing skills. ChatGPT, an AI-based language model, has increasingly been used as a writing assistant to help learners generate ideas, organize text structure, improve grammar, and expand vocabulary. This study aims to explore the perceptions of ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri 10 Pematangsiantar regarding the use of ChatGPT as a writing assistant in an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design, the study investigates students’ perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived ease of use (PEOU), guided by the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Data were collected through open-ended essay questionnaires distributed to 28 students who had received direct instructional exposure to ChatGPT through guided writing activities. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the majority of students hold positive perceptions of ChatGPT. In terms of PU, students reported that ChatGPT effectively supported idea generation, improved writing structure and grammar, expanded vocabulary, enhanced writing quality, and increased their confidence in writing English texts. ChatGPT was also perceived as helpful in overcoming writing difficulties and completing academic tasks more efficiently. Regarding PEOU, students stated that ChatGPT was easy to learn, accessible through mobile devices, and provided clear and understandable responses. Many students also felt comfortable using it independently without teacher supervision. Nevertheless, several challenges were noted, such as unstable internet connectivity and difficulties in formulating appropriate prompts. Overall, the results indicate that ChatGPT is well-accepted by students and has the potential to serve as an effective tool for supporting English writing instruction at the junior high school level. The study recommends guided and ethical integration of ChatGPT in EFL classrooms to prevent overreliance and promote critical engagement with AI-generated content.

Abstract

The rapid integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education has prompted a paradigm shift in English Language Teaching (ELT), including the implementation of the Deep Learning framework introduced by the Indonesian Ministry of Education in 2024. This study aims to explore teachers’ and students’ perceptions toward the application of the Deep Learning paradigm within ICT-supported ELT at SMA Negeri 2 Pematangsiantar. A qualitative survey design was employed, involving interviews with two English teachers and questionnaires distributed to 109 eleventh-grade students. The findings reveal that both teachers and students generally hold positive perceptions toward the Deep Learning approach, particularly in the dimensions of mindful, meaningful, and joyful learning. Teachers perceive the paradigm as a refinement rather than a novel concept, although their understanding of its principles varies. Questionnaire results indicate high levels of agreement across the three dimensions: Joyful Learning (87.16%), Meaningful Learning (85.57%), and Mindful Learning (84.59%). However, several challenges emerged, including students’ limited metacognitive awareness, low confidence in applying English in real contexts, and passive participation during classroom activities. ICT was perceived as an essential tool that enhances engagement, supports assessment practices, and increases learning motivation, though its pedagogical application remains predominantly surface-level. Overall, the study concludes that the Deep Learning paradigm, when supported by ICT, positively influences learning experiences in ELT and demonstrates potential as an effective instructional approach. Strengthening teacher training and developing ICT-based instructional strategies are recommended to optimize implementation and foster deeper learning outcomes.

Abstract

The integration of digital technology in education has encouraged the use of innovative learning media that align with students’ characteristics. Social media platforms such as TikTok, supported by video editing applications like CapCut, have the potential to be utilized as short video-based learning media. This community service activity aimed to enhance students’ understanding and skills in creating short instructional videos using TikTok and CapCut. The activity was conducted on December 8, 2025, involving 36 students of SMA Negeri 6 Pematangsiantar as community service partners. The implementation method employed training activities consisting of material presentation, hands-on practice in producing instructional videos, and evaluation of the learning outcomes. The results indicated that students were able to produce short instructional videos creatively and demonstrated improved understanding of learning materials and the educational use of digital media. This activity contributed positively to fostering innovative, creative, and technology-based learning practices that support student engagement and learning effectiveness in the school environment. The activity also encouraged collaboration among students, enhancing their communication and teamwork skills. Feedback collected from participants highlighted increased confidence in using digital tools for educational purposes. Future initiatives will focus on expanding this program to include more schools and diverse digital media platforms. The program’s success underscores the importance of integrating digital literacy into the curriculum to prepare students for future academic and professional environments. Additionally, educators reported that the initiative enhanced their teaching strategies by incorporating more interactive and student-centered approaches. Ongoing assessment and feedback will guide the refinement and scalability of the program to maximize its impact across different educational contexts.
