Abstract

In accordance with the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, a systematic search was conducted in the Scopus database, and in the first phase, 639 documents were identified that were published from 2020 to 2026. When 15 duplicates were removed, 624 records left were screened by title and abstract. Records that did not fall under English-language peer-reviewed articles or reviews deal explicitly with badminton stroke or match analysis were discarded, so in the end, 158 full-text articles were obtained for the eligibility check. The final thematic screening found 55 papers that were synthesized to prepare this review. The four main findings of the analysis are: (1) the smash stroke was recognized as the shot most used for attacking and also the shot most responsible for playing the winning points in elite singles and doubles; regardless of the level, (2) net shots, along with net-kills, were also the second most frequently used weapon, mainly in short-rally scenarios enabled by the rally-point scoring system; (3) gender and format-based differences are so marked that in male singles, more rear-court to front-court transitions occur than in female players; (4) there is a growing use of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to accurately quantify stroke patterns instead of mere notational analysis. In terms of numbers, the smash and net shot combined made up just about 73% of the winning shots in elite singles as per the gathered research, whereas net-kills represented more than 40% of the points won in elite women's doubles. These results lead directly to areas of coaching pedagogy, talent identification, and the design of training programs. The aim of future research should be to longitudinally monitor changes in stroke distribution as scoring systems change and to utilize wearable sensor technology for real-time stroke classification in natural match conditions.

Abstract

Fundamental movement skills (FMS) and learning motivation are essential for children’s physical development and participation in physical activity. However, many elementary school students demonstrate low motor competence and limited engagement in physical education due to conventional instructional approaches that are often repetitive and less interactive. Augmented Reality (AR) technology has emerged as a promising tool to enhance learning experiences and increase student motivation. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the effects of AR-based athletics learning on FMS and learning motivation among elementary school students. A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control group design was employed involving 60 students aged 9–11 years. Participants were assigned to either an experimental group receiving AR-based athletics instruction or a control group receiving conventional instruction. The intervention was conducted over eight weeks. FMS were assessed using the Test of Gross Motor Development-3 (TGMD-3), while learning motivation was measured using a validated questionnaire. Data were analyzed using paired-sample and independent-sample t-tests and Cohen’s d effect size analysis. The results showed significant improvements in both FMS and motivation among students in the experimental group. FMS scores increased from 61.47 ± 6.28 to 78.53 ± 5.91, while motivation scores increased from 63.84 ± 5.74 to 82.15 ± 5.38 (p < 0.001). Large effect sizes were observed for FMS (d = 1.42) and motivation (d = 1.58). These findings indicate that AR-based athletics learning is an effective and innovative strategy for improving motor skills and learning motivation in physical education.

Abstract

Abstract

Antenatal Care (ANC) services are a crucial effort in improving maternal and fetal health and preventing pregnancy complications. Pregnant women's perceptions of ANC service quality play a role in their utilization of healthcare services during pregnancy. This study aims to analyze pregnant women's perceptions of ANC service quality at the Taratara Community Health Center (Puskesmas) based on the five dimensions of service quality (SERVQUAL): tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. The study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Informants consisted of four pregnant women (primary informants) and one midwife (key informant), selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis, while data validity was tested through source triangulation. The results indicate that, overall, pregnant women hold a positive perception of ANC service quality at the Taratara Community Health Center. The dimensions of tangibles, reliability, assurance, and empathy were perceived as meeting expectations, evidenced by adequate facilities, adherence to service procedures, healthcare worker competence, and a friendly, attentive attitude during service delivery. However, issues were identified regarding the responsiveness dimension, particularly concerning waiting time efficiency and the speed of staff response in certain situations. The study concludes that the dimensions of tangibles, reliability, assurance, and empathy should be maintained, whereas the responsiveness dimension requires improvement specifically regarding service speed and waiting time management to further optimize the quality of ANC services at the Taratara Community Health Center.

Abstract

The effects of sexual activity and masturbation before exercise or competition on athletic performance remain unclear. This systematic review examined their short and long-term effects on physical performance and physiological responses, proposed underlying mechanisms, and methodological limitations in the existing literature. A systematic search of the Scopus database was conducted according to PRISMA 2020 guidelines, identifying 281 records. Following title and abstract screening and application of predefined eligibility criteria, 50 articles were included in the review. Of these, 10 directly investigated the relationship between sexual activity or masturbation and athletic performance. The relevant evidence was synthesized thematically using Braun and Clarke’s framework. A meta-analysis was not performed because of substantial heterogeneity in study outcomes and measures. Overall, sexual activity or masturbation performed more than two hours before exercise or competition did not appear to significantly affect strength, endurance, physical performance, or reaction time. Findings for shorter intervals were inconsistent. Psychological readiness and sleep quality may influence performance, while testosterone fluctuations, autonomic arousal, and perceived exertion were the most frequently proposed physiological mechanisms. However, small sample sizes, reliance on self-reported data, and inconsistent definitions of sexual activity limited the interpretation of causal relationships. Current evidence does not support strict abstinence from sexual activity or masturbation before competition. Individualized, evidence-based recommendations may be more appropriate for athletes. Further research using larger and more diverse samples, standardized definitions, objective measurements, and rigorous study designs is needed to clarify the relationship across different sports and levels of competition.
