Abstract

A Digital learning does not take place exclusively within formal platforms such as Learning Management Systems (LMS), but also emerges in informal and often invisible digital spaces beyond institutional control. This study examines how informal student WhatsApp communities function as a socio-emotional infrastructure that supports learning processes outside formal educational systems. Employing a qualitative virtual ethnography approach, data were collected through passive observation, digital documentation, and analysis of naturally occurring conversations and shared learning artefacts over one academic semester. Thematic analysis following Braun and Clarke’s framework identified four interconnected themes: collaborative learning management, access and distribution of academic knowledge, emotional support and peer solidarity, and safe spaces for academic courage. The findings reveal that these informal digital communities operate as an alternative learning ecosystem that sustains students’ academic engagement, emotional well-being, and willingness to participate intellectually. This study conceptualizes such communities as the “dark matter of learning” an invisible yet critical socio-emotional structure that underpins student learning beyond institutional LMS environments. The findings highlight the importance of recognizing and integrating informal digital learning spaces into a more holistic digital learning ecosystem.

Abstract

Studying the impact of internet-based learning on students' social skills is important because humans are actually social creatures who need other people no matter what their circumstances. Unfortunately, the impact of internet-based learning on the social skills of students in class The aim of this research is to determine the impact of internet-based learning on the social skills of class X students at Ibnu Khaldun Vocational School for the 2023/2024 academic year. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through observation, interviews with 7 students, 3 teachers and the school principal as well as documentation. The research subjects were class X students at Ibnu Khaldun Vocational School, Cirebon. The research was carried out for 1 month, namely February 2024. The data collected was then analyzed in depth to determine the research results. The results of the research show that internet-based learning implemented in class able to overcome problems that occur with friends, and direct communication skills worsen, so that students' social interactions can be carried out optimally

Abstract

Pendidikan karakter merupakan aspek fundamental dalam pembentukan generasi unggul yang tidak hanya cerdas secara intelektual tetapi juga memiliki integritas moral. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran pendidikan karakter berbasis kearifan lokal dalam membentuk kepribadian yang seimbang, mencegah degradasi moral, serta mempersiapkan pemimpin masa depan yang beretika. Studi di laksanakan pada Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Yasfika Provinsi Lampung menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pengumpulan data melalui wawancara mendalam terhadap 10 guru, 6 siswa, dan 5 orang tua, serta analisis dokumen kurikulum dan observasi partisipatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kearifan lokal dalam pembelajaran kejuruan mampu meningkatkan kompetensi sosial siswa secara signifikan. Temuan utama penelitian mengungkap bahwa siswa mengalami peningkatan kemampuan kolaborasi setelah penerapan model pembelajaran berbasis proyek yang mengangkat nilai-nilai lokal. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa model pendidikan karakter berbasis kearifan lokal tidak hanya memperkuat identitas budaya siswa, tetapi juga menyelaraskan kompetensi teknis dengan keterampilan sosial yang dibutuhkan di dunia kerja. Selain itu, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendidikan karakter yang terintegrasi dalam keluarga, sekolah, dan masyarakat mampu menciptakan generasi yang berdaya saing global dengan nilai-nilai positif. Kesimpulannya, pendidikan karakter harus menjadi prioritas dalam sistem pendidikan untuk mewujudkan generasi unggul yang berakhlak mulia dan bertanggung jawab. Rekomendasi kebijakan mencakup pengembangan modul terpadu, peningkatan kapasitas guru, dan penyusunan sistem sertifikasi kompetensi yang mengintegrasikan aspek teknis dan karakter. Temuan ini memberikan kontribusi penting bagi pengembangan model pendidikan karakter kontekstual di SMK, khususnya di daerah dengan kekayaan budaya yang khas.
