Abstract

This qualitative study investigates cultural and linguistic challenges faced by 45 junior cadets in global maritime education, focusing on English usage. Through interviews and focus group discussions, diverse English proficiency levels were identified among participants, highlighting the need for tailored language training programs. Communication challenges, particularly in understanding technical terminology and navigating cultural differences, emphasize the importance of targeted language instruction and cross-cultural training initiatives. Aligning with the International Maritime Organization's Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW), the study emphasizes the significance of linguistic competence and cultural awareness in ensuring safety and efficiency within maritime crews. The findings emphasize the importance of integrating language training initiatives into maritime education curriculum and fostering a culture of inclusivity and professionalism within the maritime industry.

Abstract

Online registration of resellers through a website has become a crucial strategy for many companies, including Kelirskin, to enhance business efficiency. This research proposes the development of a dedicated website for registering as a Kelirskin product reseller using a prototype method. With this method, an analysis of system requirements, modeling, and prototype development is conducted, incorporating various essential features such as login, registration, product management, shopping cart, and reseller management. The result is a prototype with a user-friendly interface and functionality tailored to the needs. In conclusion, digital reseller registration via a website using the prototype method has the potential to enhance business efficiency and competitiveness. Suggestions for further research include conducting trials with representative users and paying attention to user training and regular system maintenance to ensure smooth operation.

Abstract

Currently, education is a crucial aspect of life. Technology has led to adaptations across various sectors, including higher education. One of these adaptations is the emergence of online attendance recording systems. IPB University has responded seriously to this by launching the IPB-Mobile for Student for Student app, which is equipped with a mobile-based self-attendance feature. Students can easily mark their attendance with just one click. However, this convenience is sometimes misused; one of the problems is students marking their attendance without attending classes. This issue has prompted a study into the effectiveness of the online attendance system in IPB-Mobile for Student for Student. Through the use of Short Versions of User Experience Questionnaires (UEQ-S) and interviews, it was found that the online attendance system is quite effective. Still, there is one aspect that makes this application quite complicated, thus requiring further updates

Abstract

Korean dramas are very popular with audiences from various mass media and social media. With a very interesting storyline, it is able to hypnotize Indonesian audiences to become active viewers and bring up various assumptions about Korean drama content. The Korean drama adopted in this study is entitled The World of the Married. The drama that was broadcast by Trans TV a few months ago was very successful in anesthetizing the general public and making viewers adopt drama in their daily lives. This study aims to describe the female self-image of the main character, Ji Sun Woo’s in the Korean drama entitled The World of the Married which raises the issue of divorce and shows the value of feminism as shown by Ji Sun Woo as a strong figure and a brave female character who can make her own decisions to seek justice. By using qualitative research, data was collected using reading and note-taking techniques. Abstract

The film " Nussa The Movie" is a breakthrough in the film with Islamic animation nuances with the plot presented easily for children to understand. The film is designed to invite children to be interested in manual or digital literacy, especially in Islamic activities. With a myriad of meanings, this story tells the story of the character of Nussa as the defending champion of the science fair with its limitations. The purpose of this paper is to examine and analyze literacy from the point of view of parents who have little time for their children, based on the results obtained through research on data sources and internet studies. Knowledge of the importance of literacy in children is decreasing due to the use of smartphones that are not wise and the attention of parents is not optimal. In conclusion, the development of literacy in children is less emphasized on letter knowledge and language use skills, among others; introduce vocabulary through objects, invite children to read books, train children to appreciate an object, and teach children about sincerity. This literacy learning mode uses a social and technological approach. The research results reveal that digital literacy is better able to increase awareness to build a mature mindset.

Abstract

One of the most memorable films from our childhood would be "Mulan" by Disney. When most of the Disney princesses show us the glamour, the elegance of being a princess, “Mulan” shows us something else, like a battlefield, army, war, and lots of other things that may sound new and fresh from a child's perspective. People watch Mulan on her journey to become China's saviour. Ignoring the line that separates a man from a woman she kept her head up and worked hard to become the perfect soldier for her land. Despite showing her capability in fight and strategies to help her comrades survive the battlefield, she still faces rejection and anger when people around her find out that she is a woman. But she still tries her best to save the country by protecting China's emperor when he faces life and death situations caused by the enemies. Her success caused a lot of people to acknowledge her power as a woman and praise her. This paper will study the female representation of “Mulan”. A qualitative method will be used to conduct this study to show educational values in “Mulan” by Disney.

Abstract

In supporting the efforts to preserve the nation’s cultural heritage, this research aimed to implement project-based learning by designing e-books as digital information media to promote tourism development. This research attempted to report and illustrate the implementation of project-based learning, which aimed to explore twenty potential tourist attractions in the surrounding villages of the Borobudur Temple in Central Java, Indonesia. This research involved 127 students of the Informatics Management Study Program enrolled in the Graphic Design course. This qualitative case study exemplified the implementation of project-based learning in designing and digitizing information media in the form of a collection of e-books. The overall process consisted of three main stages, i.e., pre-production, production, and post-production. The stages included conducting preliminary research; formulating the concept of design; collecting visual and typographic references; outlining; performing the design and digitization; and presenting the final product. The data were taken from class observations and documentation from March to June 2022. By demonstrating the project-based learning model of preserving the cultural potential of twenty traditional villages surrounding the Borobudur Temple area in a digital environment, it is hoped that the digitized cultural heritage can be introduced to and recognized by wider audiences.

Abstract

The decline in aquaculture productivity due to the COVID-19 pandemic and increasing global competition, as well as difficulties for fishermen in selling fish due to high distribution costs and low consumer confidence in fish freshness, demand innovative solutions for the fishing industry. This research aims to answer this problem by developing a mobile-based fresh fish marketing application called "FreshCatch." We use Design Thinking methods to improve user experience and interface design. This methodology includes understanding user needs, determining core problems such as the issue of trust in fish freshness, finding solutions, creating low and high-fidelity design prototypes, and usability testing. The research results show a high level of success and user satisfaction with a significant increase in user trust and market accessibility for fishermen. The study concluded that "FreshCatch" effectively enhances the digital transition in fish sales, expands market reach, and increases fish farmers' income while ensuring the availability of fresh fish for consumers. This research contributes to advancing digital solutions in the aquaculture industry, encouraging sustainable and efficient market practices.

Abstract

Devin AI is an autonomous artificial intelligence assistant referred to as an "AI software developer" and claimed to be capable of building websites and applications, completing complex programming, and training its own AI models. Cognition Labs has released a trailer for Devin AI on YouTube. This research analyzes the responses of Software Engineering Technology students from the Vocational School of IPB University regarding the Devin AI trailer. Responses were collected via Google Forms from students of classes 59, covering familiarity, benefits, and concerns about using Devin AI. The responses varied, with both positive and negative feedback. Devin AI is considered capable of accelerating the software development process and allowing developers to focus on strategic and creative elements. 60% of respondents are not afraid that Devin AI will replace the position of Developer, seeing it as a companion or considering it a scam. Conversely, 40% are concerned that the Developer position will be replaced by Devin AI.
