Abstract

This research was conducted in December 2023 in Pulau Cawan Village, Mandah District, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau Province. This research aims to analyze residents' knowledge, attitudes, and communication toward mangrove rehabilitation programs; analyze residents' participation in the mangrove rehabilitation program; analyze the relationship between residents' knowledge, attitudes, and communication with residents' participation in the mangrove rehabilitation program in Pulau Cawan Village. The research method used was a quantitative survey. Respondents of this study amounted to 30 households. To answer the research objectives, researchers used Likert Scale data analysis to answer the second objective, while for the third objective, researchers used Spearman Rank data analysis. The study results were population knowledge at a score of 1.178, population attitudes at a score of 1.178, and population communication at a score of 1.176, meaning that population knowledge, attitudes, and communication were outstanding. Good in the Mangrove rehabilitation program. Meanwhile, resident participation obtained a score of 1.492, which means that resident participation is quite good in the Mangrove rehabilitation program. The relationship between population knowledge and population participation is 00.529, population attitudes and population participation is 0.401, and the relationship between population communication and population participation is 0.422, so it can be interpreted as a moderate level of relationship closeness. If the sig value (2-tailed) <0.05, it can be considered significant.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the relationship between explicit grammar knowledge and English proficiency levels among students. The study involved nine Indonesian teaching students who were divided into three groups, namely seven new teachers who were teaching English for the first time in elementary schools and two teachers who regularly taught English for communication. Data were collected through interviews and grammar assignments to assess their explicit grammar knowledge as well as their level of language proficiency. The results of the study showed that there was a tendency to associate explicit grammar knowledge and English proficiency. However, explicit grammatical knowledge is not the main determinant of proficiency level. In contrast, proficiency is more influenced by a combination of factors, such as individual preferences and study habits. Students who engage in implicit learning activities, such as regular communication and exposure to language in context, show higher levels of fluency than students who rely on explicit grammar instruction. Nonetheless, explicit grammatical knowledge remains important, especially in academic contexts that demand accurate and formal use of language. An approach that consciously integrates explicit grammar instruction is recommended to support skill development, especially in academic writing. In this way, implicit learning can improve fluency, while explicit learning favors accuracy and formal structure. In conclusion, combining explicit and implicit grammar knowledge into a balanced approach can improve overall fluency and accuracy. Teachers are advised to incorporate explicit grammar instruction into a context-based curriculum that supports immersive learning to optimize student language development.

Abstract

One of the key instruments to support teaching and learning process is the lesson plan. Developing a lesson plan can help teachers facilitate the lesson, set the teaching goals and learning objectives, organize and manage the teaching and learning activities, and set the means to accomplish them. This research aims to investigate the aspect taken in lesson plan in implementing student-centered learning approach and how it is implemented in the classroom. A qualitative method was employed to analyze as many as 6 lesson plans developed by 6 PPG Unesa student teachers. The data were gathered from document analysis. The documents were lesson plans and teaching videos. The theories were composed from several frameworks that were utilized to measure the aspects of student-centered learning approach in lesson plan such as active learning instruction, teacher as facilitator, differentiated instruction, and formative assessment. In conclusion, the implementation of this approach was still facing some challenges. These include a limited range of instructional materials, language proficiency issues, the use of repetitive activities, and a lack of feedback, which can impede the efficacy of a student-centered approach.

Abstract

The trend of online learning has been intensifying and present is the need for study to align this phenomenon to motivation in order for language teachers to boost students achievement. This research is about to inquire the correlation between online informal learning of English and motivation to learn English. Quantitative method was used to measure the correlation between variables. Subjects were students in a boarding school selected with random sampling. To obtain data, questionnaire and interview were conducted. There were 55 students in total that participated in completing the questionnaire and only 16 of them were taken to be considered for the interview. The questionnaire was in Likert Scale about the frequency of English use and about the motivation in learning. Semi-structured interview was used to confirm and expand the data. Statistical analysis of two questionnaire resulted in a positive correlation (correlation coefficient {r} = 0,48). This means that higher values of one variable tend to be associated with higher values of other variable. Suggestion was to increase English use in online activities, to observe other factors affecting the results, and more research is needed to be conducted.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that affects toddlers' growth, particularly when their height does not align with age standards. In Indonesia, the prevalence of stunting in 2022 was 21.6%, still above the WHO standard of 20%. In response, Alma Ata University, through the Real Work Lecture (KKN) Program, implemented a community-based intervention in Kalirandugede Village, Kendal, to reduce stunting rates. This program combines nutrition education and utilization of local potential with a participatory approach. One of the main activities is counseling on the importance of consuming animal protein, especially mackerel, which is rich in nutrition and affordable. Additionally, this program presents "Onigizi," an innovative mackerel-based onigiri that serves as a healthy alternative for families. This activity involves PKK mothers who are agents of change in their communities. Through demonstrations and direct practice, participants gain knowledge about the importance of balanced nutrition as well as skills in utilizing local food ingredients to prevent stunting. The program evaluation showed active participation and enthusiasm from participants in understanding stunting prevention and applying the knowledge gained. In conclusion, this program has not only succeeded in raising public awareness of the importance of nutrition but also offers practical solutions based on local potential. Other regions can replicate this approach as an innovative and sustainable model for eradicating stunting.
