Abstract

Background: Globally the prevalence of chronic diseases continues to increase every year. In 2021, it is estimated that around 43 million people will die from chronic diseases, with 73% of them being prevalent in low-income or developing countries. Purpose: To conduct an analysis related to the use of virtual and digital technology in reducing psychological problems in the elderly with chronic diseases. Method: This paper is a review of the literature related to the topic of the use of virtual and digital technology in the elderly with chronic diseases on its effect on psychological problems. The analysis begins with a literature search across several databases, including PubMed, Google Scholar, Sage Journals, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, and SpringerLink. The article search was conducted using the PICO form (P = Elderly with chronic diseases; (2) Intervention = Utilization of virtual technology, utilization of digital technology; (3) Outcomes = Reducing psychological problems, elderly rehabilitation). The author identified 33 articles for analysis and filtered them, resulting in 5 articles that employed the Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) research method. Furthermore, the author conducted an analysis using a critical appraisal form, namely the CASP (Critical Appraisal Skill Program) form. Results: The virtual technologies can minimise depression, anxiety, and increase self-efficacy in elderly people with chronic disease. The digital application technologies give a psychological impact based on the features and the basic purpose of making that application. Conclusion: Virtual and digital technologies have an impact on the psychological well-being of the elderly, based on the features that these technologies provide for them.

Abstract

Background: Interprofessional collaboration (IPC) is critical for delivering comprehensive and coordinated care, particularly in managing complex noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). However, in primary care settings, collaboration among healthcare professionals remains fragmented. Evidence on how different health professions collaborate in community health centers (CHCs) remains limited. This knowledge gap hampers efforts to strengthen team-based NCD management in primary care.Purpose: This study aimed to assess IPC among healthcare professionals in primary care and identify domains that require strengthening for NCD management. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 37 CHCs in Palembang City, South Sumatra Province, Indonesia. A total of 301 healthcare professionals, including nurses, medical doctors, midwives, and public health workers, were selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using a sociodemographic questionnaire and the validated Indonesian version of the Collaborative Practice Assessment Tool (CPAT), which consists of 56 items across eight subscales. Descriptive statistics and Kruskal–Wallis tests were used to analyze the data. Results: A total of 301 healthcare professionals participated. Overall CPAT scores were relatively similar across professions, with median (IQR) values of 292 (275.75–330.50) for nurses, 304 (278–329.50) for medical doctors, 292 (278.50–334) for midwives, and 287 (279–314) for public health workers. The highest scores across professions were observed for general role responsibilities and autonomy and team leadership, while the lowest scores were observed for community linkages and coordination of care and patient involvement. Only the communication and information exchange domain showed a significant difference among professions (p = .039).Conclusion: IPC for NCD management in primary care demonstrated strengths in role clarity, autonomy, and team leadership but remained weak in communication, patient involvement, and community linkages. Targeted interventions, including structured interprofessional education, patient-centered care approaches, and stronger community partnerships, are needed to strengthen collaboration.
