Abstract

Hospitalized children often experience decreased appetite, which is influenced by stress and anxiety. This decrease in appetite can worsen the recovery process and increase the risk of complications. VR technology has emerged as one of the promising innovations to reduce anxiety and improve nutritional fulfillment in children during medical treatment. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of Virtual Reality (VR) in improving nutritional fulfillment in hospitalized children. Method: A literature search was conducted on four major databases: PubMed, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, and Scopus. Three articles with Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) design that met the inclusion criteria were selected and analyzed in this review. The articles were evaluated using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) form to assess risk of bias and methodological quality. Results: This study shows that VR is more effective than animated videos in reducing anxiety, increasing appetite, and motivating children to eat nutritious food. In addition, VR also provides benefits as an interactive educational tool that appeals to children. Conclusion: VR is a promising intervention in improving nutritional fulfillment in hospitalized children. This technology not only reduces anxiety, but also has the potential to increase children's participation in the recovery process. Further research with larger samples is needed to confirm these findings and explore the applicability of VR to different age groups and diverse medical conditions.

Abstract

Frailty syndrome is a common condition among the elderly. Frailty has become a major health issue in the 21st century, affecting older adults and being associated with various negative outcomes such as decreased quality of life, increased mortality, hospital admissions, risk of falls, depression, and dementia. Objective: This study aims to identify and summarize the factors associated with frailty syndrome in the elderly through a systematic literature review. The findings are expected to serve as a basis for early prevention and management efforts of frailty in older adults. This study employs a systematic literature review method by analyzing 7 relevant journal articles published between 2020 and 2025. Articles were sourced from databases such as ProQuest, SpringerLink, and ClinicalKey for Nursing, selected based on topic relevance and publication quality to provide a comprehensive overview of the factors influencing frailty syndrome in the elderly. Based on the review of 7 journal articles, several factors influencing frailty syndrome were identified, including: age over 80 years, polypharmacy (use of multiple medications), gender, low body mass index (BMI), history of hospitalization, previous alcohol use, history of falls, living alone, presence of comorbidities, and impaired cognitive function. Frailty syndrome in the elderly is influenced by various risk factors spanning physical, psychological, and social aspects. Identifying these factors is crucial to support early interventions and preventive efforts, thereby improving the quality of life of older adults and reducing the risk of further complications. This systematic review can serve as a reference in developing strategies for the prevention and management of frailty among the elderly population.

Abstract

Heart Failure (HF) is a progressive disease that occurs in 0.13% of Indonesia's population and is dominated by the elderly. This disease requires high costs due to high rehospitalization rates. In meeting their daily needs, the elderly with HF needs caregivers to pay attention to their health, prevent risk factors, and identify resources owned by the family to support the needs of the elderly with HF. The aim of this systematic review was to identify the effect of knowledge of elderly clients and caregivers on the incidence of re-hospitalization in the elderly with HF. The data collection method uses an electronic database from journals that have been published through ScienceDirect, EBSCOHost, ProQuest, ClinicalKey, and Scopus. The data was analyzed using PRISMA diagram. The results of the systematic review of related journals show that the knowledge of clients and caregivers can reduce the incidence of re-hospitalization, and worsening of conditions, and reduce the risk of mortality in heart failure patients, therefore good understanding and literacy is needed for caregivers and elderly clients with HF.
