Abstract

Aloe barbadensis is a plant with many applications such as anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and aiding in cell regeneration. Understanding aloe barbadensis' phytochemical profile and pharmacological action is essential since it is believed to have an impact on the formation of teeth and bones. The stability and bioavailability of Aloe barbadensis can be improved by formulating it as an instant powder. The research's objectives are to ascertain the Aloe barbadensis instant powder's qualitative and quantitative phytochemical profile, dosage formulations, and activity testing on hemoglobin, cholesterol, and red blood cell parameters. Samples of aloe barbadensis were washed, and they were then dried for 72 hours at 50°C. Following a maceration process using a 70% ethanol solvent, the extract was dried. Phytochemical screening, TLC profile, and extract description were employed to test the extract qualitatively. The quantities of total flavonoids, total anthraquinones, and total phenolics were determined to quantitatively test the extract. The formulation of the instant powder was then completed and evaluated on female mice using metrics associated with red blood cells, hemoglobin, and cholesterol levels. Furthermore, observations were made on the mice's liver organs. The study's findings revealed a qualitative profile of Aloe barbadensis extract, which included a tasteless, unique odor, milky white hue, and liquid shape. Aloe barbadensis has been demonstrated to contain flavonoids, phenolics, tannins, saponins, and anthraquinones, according to the results of phytochemical screening. Three spots, identified as Rf 3.2 and Rf 8.5 in the Rf 2.3 area, are visible in the chromatographic pattern. Total anthraquinones were discovered to be 4.59%, total flavonoids to be 0.24%, and total phenolic content to be 1.42%. The third formula of instant Aloe barbadensis pollen has been demonstrated through preclinical examinations to have the capacity to reduce cholesterol, boost hemoglobin, and enhance red blood cell count—all of which are associated with the growth of teeth and bones. An SPSS statistical study demonstrating statistically significant differences with other groups supports this. Mice liver histopathological examinations revealed no liver damage in any of the test groups.

Abstract

the common complications associated with DM is periodontal disease, which involves inflammation and destruction of the tissues supporting the teeth. This study aims to examine the association between DM and periodontal disease status in the wetland community of Banjar District, South Kalimantan. A cross-sectional observational analytic design was employed, involving 115 respondents. Fasting blood glucose levels were measured to determine DM status, and periodontal condition was assessed using the Periodontal Disease Index (PDI). The results revealed that 76.8% of respondents with DM exhibited poor periodontal health, compared to only 37% of non-DM individuals. Statistical analysis using the Chi-Square test confirmed a significant relationship between DM and periodontal status (p = 0.000). These findings indicate a strong correlation between diabetes and increased risk of periodontal disease. Therefore, targeted oral health education and preventive dental care are essential components of diabetes management, especially in wetland communities where access to dental services may be limited. This study underscores the need for integrated public health strategies that address both systemic and oral health issues among vulnerable populations.

Abstract

Abstract

MINISTRY OF HEALTH OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA BANJARMASIN HEALTH POLYTECHNIC DENTAL THERAPY STUDY PROGRAM APPLIED UNDERGRADUEATE PROGRAM DENTAL HEALTH YEAR 2025 ABSTRACT Undergraduate Thesis HILDA FAUJI The Effect Of Tooth Mousse Smearing On The pH Saliva Of Hypertensive Patients At The Banjarbaru Health Center South Of Banjarbaru City Mentor (1) drg. Naning Kisworo Utami., M.Kes, Mentor (2) Meggy Wulandari Kai, S. Tr.Kep, M.Tr.Kep xiv + 64 pages; 14 table; 9 pictures; 16 attachment Indonesians are still facing serious dental and oral health problems. According to data from the Indonesian Dental Association (PTGI) in 2022, around 70% of Indonesian people experience tooth decay. Research published in the International Journal of Clinical Dentistry and Wellness highlights that hypertensive patients who take antihypertensive drugs experience various oral health problems, such as dry mouth, taste changes, halitosis, bleeding gums, and mucosal lesions. This side effect can worsen the oral health condition of hypertensive patients. This study aims to determine the effect of tooth mousse application on salivary pH in hypertensive patients at Banjarbaru Selatan Community Health Center, Banjarbaru City. This research used a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest and posttest design. The sample was selected using purposive sampling technique, with a total of 33 participants. Data were analyzed using the Paired Sample T-Test statistical test. The results showed that the mean salivary pH before the application of tooth mousse was 5.912 and increased to 6.539 after the application. The result of the Paired Sample T-Test showed a p-value of 0.000 < α = 0.05, indicating that the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, tooth mousse application had a significant effect on salivary pH in hypertensive patients at Banjarbaru Selatan Community Health Center. It is recommended that health professionals, especially in the field of oral health, conduct promotive and preventive efforts such as educating the public on the use of tooth mousse to maintain salivary pH balance and prevent dental caries, particularly in high-risk groups such as hypertensive patients.
