Abstract

Yellow root (Arcangelisia flava) demonstrates potential for combating bacterial infections in aquaculture due to its secondary metabolite content, which includes flavonoids, terpenoids, and protoberberine alkaloids. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of yellow root extract as a curative agent against Aeromonas hydrophila infection in Climbing Perch (Anabas testudineus). The method employed was an in vivo study using immersion treatments of yellow root extract at concentrations of 200, 400, and 600 mg/L, alongside a control (0 mg/L). Observations were conducted for 10 days post-infection and treatment, covering clinical symptoms and Survival Rate (SR). Prior to treatment, the fish exhibited clinical symptoms characteristic of A. hydrophila, such as red spots and exophthalmia. The results indicated that water quality parameters (temperature 26.4–27.1°C, pH 6.8–7.1, DO 3.28–3.47 mg/L) remained within optimal and stable ranges. In the extract treatment groups (B, C, and D), significant recovery was observed starting from day 3, achieving a 100% SR by day 10. In contrast, the control group (A) only attained an SR of 26.6%. This curative success is attributed to the mechanism of action of active compounds, which disrupt bacterial membranes and inhibit metabolism. It is concluded that A. flava extract is effective as a natural alternative treatment for bacterial infections in Climbing Perch.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the density and diversity of macrozoobenthos and water quality conditions including temperature, depth, turbidity, pH and DO in Lake Hanjalutung and Rungan River. This research was conducted in July 2023 at Lake Hanjalutung. The results showed that at the study site found as many as 15 species of macrozoobenthos included in 3 phyla namely Uniramia, Annelida and Nematoda. The average macrozoobenthos density value ranged from 134-1,032 ind/m2. The average of diversity index values ranged from 0.714 to 1.278 indicating the diversity of macrozoobenthos species classified as low to moderate. The condition of water quality parameters at the study site showed the value of the temperature parameter was still suitable for the life of aquatic organisms. Meanwhile, the pH and DO parameter values showed relatively low values at all stations, but these values are still suitable for waters influenced by peat swamp ecosystems because they are still in their natural conditions. While the value of the turbidity parameter at station IV and the depth value at station II were higher than the other stations. Anova results on the value of diversity showed no difference between stations. While the density values showed there were differences between observation stations. Anova result on physical and chemical water quality parameters showed no difference in temperature, turbidity, pH and DO values between stations. Abstract

Nilai indeks keanekaragaman sebesar 2,28 menunjukkan kategori sedang. Disimpulkan bahwa kondisi perairan Danau Burung masih mampu mendukung keberadaan komunitas ikan dan aktivitas perikanan masyarakat.

Abstract

This research was conducted in Batu Lake in February- April 2018. Batu Lake is one of the oxbow lakes in Central Kalimantan. The lake is generally used as a fishing ground area by local people. The research aimed to investigate the feeding habits of some commercial fish species, namely Baung, Lais Baji and Saluang Balu fishes. Fishes caught by gillnet with the mesh size of 1, 1.5 and 2 inches. Based on the research results, the total fishes caught during the research were 96, 139 and 121, respectively. Those fishes were examined for the Index of Relative Importance. The gut composition of Baung based on the Index of Relative Importance was dominated by small fishes (41%), Lais Baji was dominated by small shrimp (77%), and Saluang Balu was dominated by moss (80%). All water quality parameters such as pH with ranged between 5,20-5,90, temperature with ranged value between 29,00 – 32,20 oC, transparency ranged from 22,00–35,50 cm and dissolved oxygen value ranged from 2,60 – 6,90 mg/l.
