Abstract

Abstract Open University (UT) is a university that implement distance learning system, has three main components that affect the quality of learning, the third component includes teaching materials, student service components and component testing, of three components determines the learning process in distance education system. This research aimed (1) to determine the promotional strategy which had been carried out by Palu Distance Learning Program Unit of the Open University (UPBJJ-UT Palu) in recruiting new students in order to increase the number of student; (2) to analyze the obstacles faced by the UPBJJ-UT Palu in implementing their promotional strategies. The study was a descriptive-qualitative research with the focus on the overall description-qualitative research with the focus on the overall description of the form, function, and meaning of the ban expressions. The research results revealed that the implementation of the promotional strategies in recruiting the new students, the UPBJJ-UT Palu 4 (four, the UPBJJ-UT Palu 4 (four) mixture promotions:the Personal Selling, Publicity by the Public Relation, Advertisement, and Sponsorship. The promotional strategies which the UPBJJ-UT Palu had used were sticking to the ran, setting the targets, designing messages, excecuting promotions, and evaluating the results. However, the results of the promotions were not yet optimum because of the annually fluctuation of the number of students. Meanwhile, the obstacles faced during the implementation of the promotions were the long distance accesses or the inaccessible geographical locations, the shortages of the human resources especially the inability of the human resources to communicate, the non-maximum monitoring and evaluation of the Sosprom, the lack of funds to pay for the Sosprom activities, and the inadequate time given to the Sospromactivities considering the conditions of the geographical locations which were difficult to reach. AbstrakUniversitas Terbuka (UT) merupakan universitas yang menerapkan sistem belajar jarak jauh yang memiliki tiga komponen utama yang mempengaruhi kualitas pembelajaran, ketiga komponen tersebut meliputi bahan ajar, komponen pelayanan mahasiswa dan komponen pengujian, ketiga komponen ini menentukan proses belajar dalam system pendidikan jarak jauh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui strategi promosi yang telah dilakukan oleh Unit Program Belajar Jarak Jauh Universitas Terbuka Palu (UPBJJ-UT Palu) dalam menjaring mahasiswa baru guna meningkatkan jumlah mahasiswa; dan menganalisis kendala yang dihadapi oleh UPBJJ-UT, Palu dalam menjalankan strategi promosi. Penelitian ini mengunakan metode pengumpulan data yang digunanakan adalah observasi, wawancara, dan studi dokumen. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif-kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, strategi promosi menjaring mahasiswa baru di UPBJJ-UT Palu menggunakan empat bauran promosi yaitu, Personal Selling, Humas/Publisitas, iklan dan sponsorship. Strategi promosi yang dilakukan UPBJJ-UT Palu sudah mengikuti ran, menentukan tujuan, merancang pesan, melaksanakan promosi hingga evaluasi hasil. Namun, hasil promosi tersebut belum optimal karena masih terjadi fluktuasi jumlah mahasiswa setiap tahun. Sementara hambatan- hambatan yang ditemukan pada waktu pelaksanaan kegiatan promosi, yakni letak geografis yang sulit dijangkau; keterbatasan sumber daya manusia yang memiliki kemampuan komunikasi; monitoring dan evaluasi mengenai Sosprom yang masih kurang maksimal; kurangnya anggaran dan waktu yang diberikan untuk kegiatan Sosprom mengingat kondisi geografis yang sulit dijangkau.

Abstract

Abstract The aims of the research are to acknowledge, to analyzes, and to describe the meaning of communication message of Sengkang silk material, especially of consummers’ choice. The research type is a desriptive qualitative approach with observation and indepth interviews with craftsmen and consummers of Sengkang silk material. Data analysis technique in this research is semiotic analysis of the subject, i.e. to review the meaning of Sengkang silk motives with meaning analysis of Charles Sanders Pierce’s triangle meaning of sign, object, and interpretant. The results of the research indicated that Sengkang silk material motive has philosophical and symbolic meaning of Bugis customs and culture. Motives of consummer’s choice are traditional motives which includes Balo Tettong, Mallobang, Balo Renni, Cobo’, Bombang, and Lagosi. The consummers of Sengkang silk purchase silk materials according to the motive concepts and colour, without prior knowledge of meaning of the silk material motives.Abstrak Kain sutera Sengkang merupakan warisan budaya, memiliki berbagai macam jenis motif mulai dari motif tradisional, semi tradisional, dan modern yang mengandung makna yang sarat akan nilai filosofi budaya masyarakat Bugis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui, menganalisis, dan menjelaskan makna pesan komunikasi motif kain sutera Sengkang, khususnya yang menjadi pilihan konsumen. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi dan wawancara mendalam dengan pengrajin dan konsumen kain sutera Sengkang. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis semiotika untuk mengkaji makna motif sutera Sengkang melalui model analisis makna Charles Sanders Pierce yaitu Triangle Meaning tentang tanda, objek, dan interpretan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa motif kain sutera Sengkang mengandung makna filosofi dan simbol adat istiadat kebudayaan Bugis. Motif-motif yang menjadi pilihan konsumen adalah motif tradisional diantaranya adalah Balo Tettong, Mallobang, Balo Renni, Cobo, Bombang, dan Lagosi. Konsumen kain sutera Sengkang membeli kain sutera berdasarkan konsep motif dan warna tanpa mengetahui makna yang terkandung dalam motif kain sutera tersebut.

Abstract

Pembagian ruang dalam rumah memiliki tujuan dan berdasarkan pada adat istiadat tertentu.  Konsep rumah bahkan mencerminkan status penghuninya. Konsep ruang rumah adat Bugis kaitannya dengan tingkatan status dan penggunaan ruang dan waktu yang digunakan oleh mereka dalam prosesi perkawinan adat Bugis, khususnya tradisi ”mappacci”.Tujuannya untuk mengetahui seni ruang dan waktu dalam “mapacci” pada upacara perkawinan adat Bugis. Untuk tujuan tersebut metode yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian etnografi. Etnografi adalah penelitian untuk mendeskripsikan kebudayaan sebagaimana adanya. Penelitian ini berupaya mempelajari peristiwa kultural, yang menyajikan pandangan hidup subyek sebagai obyek studi. Hasilnya adalah upacara “mappaci” perkawinan adat bugis tentang proksemik dengan pembagian ruang dalam rumah dapat memberikan gambaran bahwa semakin dekat jarak sosial seseorang dengan pemangku hajat menentukan ruang mana dia ditempatkan dan menentukan juga lama waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk mengikuti prosesi perkawinan adat tersebut. Semakin dekat jarak sosial semakin lama waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk mengikuti prosesi tersebut

Abstract

Abstrak Interpersonal communication involves the exchange of verbal and non-verbal messages that can directly affect the sender and recipient of the message. The context of interpersonal communication can be applied to opinion leaders and minority groups in direct interaction. Relationship between opinion leaders and minority groups have differences in religion, beliefs, culture, and customs can be applied through open interpersonal communication, empathy, and equality. The goal is to maximize the role and opinion leader function of the majority group, namely the Toraja ethnic group in interacting with the Bugis ethnic minority group of Makassar for social harmonization in a multicultural and multiethnic society. The research method approaches the constructivism paradigm. Methods of data collection through Focuss Group Discussion, observation, and in-depth interviews. Furthermore, the data collected in the analysis uses a qualitative approach to generalize the conclusions of the results of data analysis inductively. Informants were determined through purposive sampling based on high opinion leader interaction levels with individuals or groups outside their ethnicity, with the aim that the informants interviewed had a wealth of insight and extensive knowledge about ethnic opponents, and had experience of associating with individuals or groups outside their ethnicity. 3 informants were chosen in Toraja Regency and 3 in Makassar City, and 7 Bugis Ethnic Makassar who interacted directly with opinion leaders and the community in the majority group. The results of the study found that interpersonal communication was carried out by open opinion leaders, empathy, and equal attitudes. Opinion leader applies the concept of interpersonal communication with minority groups through interpersonal communication skills, such as the ability to imitate, identification skills, and the ability of sympathy with minority groups dominated by ethnic Bugis Makassar and the majority group dominated by ethnic Toraja. The obstacle factor of interpersonal communication between opinion leaders and minority groups is first, barriers to the status effect, perceptual distorsion barriers, and barriers to cultural differences on minority groups that have different cultures, religions and social environments.

Abstract

This study focuses and aims to describe the interpersonal conflict management of homosexuals in interacting in the city of Makassar in ingroup and outgroup. Using a qualitative approach, data were taken from the field as a result of in-depth interviews with homosexual informants, two gays and two lesbians in the city of Makassar. The results of this study indicate that each informant has a different way of resolving conflicts depending on the form and type of conflict affecting the way conflict resolution of homosexuals. Efforts to deal with lesbian conflict are easier to deal with in-group conflicts than in outgroup conflicts. Conversely, gays are easier to deal with outgroup conflicts than ingroup conflicts.

Abstract

This research aims to determine how the effect of family communication intensity atchildren’s knowledge level of pancana language. This research took place in Central Buton, Southeast Sulawesi. The type of research used by researchers is quantitative research methods using multistage random sampling techniques in determining samples. This research uses data collection methods using a questionnaire. In this study, the data collected through the questionnaire was then analyzed by using the SPSS program assistance. The results of the analysis of multiple linear regression tests to test the proposed hypothesis show that the value of Fcount>Ftable (40.9822> 2.402). From the results of the test it was concluded that the intensity of family communication simultaneously or jointly gave a positive and significant influence on the level of knowledge of children in pancana language.

Abstract

Boudaries of privacy in the context of interpersonal communication is an attempt to disclose themselves openly or closedly to individuals or groups. The purpose of this study is to categorize the privacy boundaries of interpersonal communication of veiled Muslim women in Makassar City. The research method uses a qualitative approach through narrative studies based on stories of veiled Muslim women in conducting social interaction and communication with their external environment. Determination of informants through purposive sampling and primary and secondary data collection. The results showed that the privacy boundaries of interpersonal communication differed based on the sexes of men and women. Social interactions and communication with fellow veiled friends are more open compared to low male friends. The contributing factors are beliefs, and similarities which determine the openness of communication with the external environment.

Abstract

This research presents the impact of the social campaign strategy for reading interest in the city of Makassar. This research uses descriptive quantitative research methods with frequency distribution data analysis, the concept used is the campaign strategy and indicators of students' reading interest. The results showed that based on quantitative data, 71% agreed if they cared about information obtained about reading interest or anything related to reading, and also 59% of them strongly agreed that they got new knowledge and information after reading.

Abstract

Komunitas etnik Kampung Rama dominan beretnik Toraja terletak di Kecamatan Panakukang Kota Makassar. Permasalahan mitra komunitas etnik Kampung Rama Kelompok mayoritas adalah etnik Toraja dan kelompok minoritas adalah etnik Bugis, etnik Makassar, etnik Mandar, dan etnik Jawa. Kelompok mayoritas dan minoritas berbeda agama, nilai, kepercayaan, dan adat istiadat harus saling memahami. Tujuannya memaksimalkan pengetahuan, sikap dan perilaku dalam menerima perbedaan sebagai keberagaman bangsa. Metode ini dapat meningkatkan karakter sikap demokratis, pluralis, dan humanis pada masyarakat komunitas Etnik Kampung Rama. Tahapan metode yakni, pertama, pembuatan karya audio visual pendidikan multikultural; kedua, kegiatan pengajaran dan pelatihan; ketiga, pemutaran audio visual multikultural, dan keempat : hasil pretest dan postest literasi multikultural. Nilai postest lebih tinggi dari pretest, seperti pemahaman dan keterbukaan masyarakat terhadap perbedaan suku, agama, dan ras. Cara pengambilan keputusan dan peran aktif pada perbedaan suku mengalami peningkatan hasil dari pretest dan postest. Persepsi dan pandangan masyarakat terhadap kebebasan beragama menunjukkan hasil sama yakni 100%.Kata kunci: Literasi Multikultural; Etnik Toraja; Kampung Rama; Kecamatan Panakukang; Kota Makassar.AbstractThe dominant ethnic Rama village of Toraja ethnic is located in Panakukang District, Makassar City. Problems with the Rama Kampung Rama ethnic community majority groups are Toraja and minority groups are Bugis, Makassarese, Mandarese and Javanese. Majority and minority groups with different religions, values, beliefs and customs must understand each other. The aim is to maximize knowledge, attitudes and behavior in accepting differences as a diversity of nations. This method can improve the character of democratic, pluralist and humanist attitudes. The stages of the method are, first, the making of audio visual works in multicultural education; second, teaching and training activities; third, multicultural audio-visual playback, and fourth: multicultural literacy pretest and posttest results. The posttest score is higher than the pretest, such as people's understanding and openness to differences in ethnicity, religion, and race. The method of decision making and the active role in tribal differences have increased the results of the pretest and posttest. Public perceptions and views on religious freedom show the same results, namely 100%.Keywords: Multicultural Literacy; Toraja Ethnic; Kampung Rama; Panakukang District; Makassar city.

Abstract

 Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi bentuk stereotipe kelompok Samasundu terhadap kelompok Tallas di Desa Samasundu, Sulawesi Barat. Stereotipe muncul karena adanya sejarah di masa lalu seperti, stereotipe kelompok Tallas sebagai kelompok yang tidak berpendidikan, kelas sosial bawah serta pekerja kasar. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan riset kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus pada kelompok Samasundu dan kelompok Tallas. Data dianalisis dengan kondensasi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa stereotipe yang selama ini muncul karena adanya kejadian masa lalu kedua kelompok  perlahan mulai dapat dihilangkan. Perbaikan dari aspek pendidikan serta ekonomi bagi kelompok Tallas menjadi prioritas utama dengan harapan agar status sebagai kelompok minoritas dapat dihilangkan. Akan tetapi tidak semua aspek sosial yang berkaitan dengan kelas sosial dapat disejajarkan. Ada hal-hal tertentu yang menjadi pengecualian untuk dapat disejajarkan terutama yang berkaitan dengan tradisi ataupun adat yang diyakini oleh keduanya karena kedua kelompok masyarakat masih berpegang teguh pada adat istiadat, seperti acara pernikahan saat proses pelattigian (pemberkatan) bagi seseorang saat melangsungkan pernikahan. Menurut adat istiadat yang diyakini oleh masyarakat setempat, pelattigian (pemberkatan) hanya boleh dilakukan oleh seseorang dengan identitas lebih baik atau mempunyai level sosial paling tidak sama dengan kelompok yang melangsungkan pernikahan. Dalam hal ini, pemerintah setempat atau tokoh masyarakat di desa tersebut harus mampu memberikan solusi berupa pemahaman kepada kelompok Samasundu untuk dapat hidup secara berdampingan tanpa harus melihat kejadian di masa lalu sebagai pembanding diantara kedua kelompok masyarakat sehingga stereotipe yang memberi kesan negatif terhadap kelompok Tallas dapat dihilangkan. Selain itu, kelompok Tallas mempunyai keterampilan unik yaitu membuat keterampilan dari bambu yang tidak dimiliki oleh masyarakat Samasundu harus diberikan pelatihan maupun wadah yang cukup untuk melestarikan atau memberikan inovasi terhadap keterampilan yang mereka miliki.
