Abstract

This research aims to enhance students' communication skills in science education by implementing the STAD-type Cooperative Learning model. The subjects of this study were seventh-grade students at a junior high school, with the learning topics "Earth Movement in the Solar System" in cycle I and "Moon as a Satellite of the Earth" in cycle II. The study was conducted over two cycles, each involving the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The tool used was an observation sheet for communication skills, which included both verbal and nonverbal communication indicators. The results demonstrated an improvement in verbal communication skills, which increased from 39% in the pre-cycle to 77% in cycle II. Similarly, nonverbal communication skills improved from 32% to 69%. The highest improvements were seen in the ability to present discussion results (from 35% to 84%) and in body language during speaking (from 29% to 73%). It can be concluded that the STAD Cooperative Learning model effectively improves students' communication skills, both verbal and nonverbal. Additionally, this model encourages students to be more active in discussions, sharing ideas, and collaborating in groups.

Abstract

Penelitian ini termasuk dalam jenis Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan minat belajar siswa kelas VII C SMPN 1 Tengah Tani pada mata pelajaran IPA tahun pelajaran 2024/2025. Masalah yang dihadapi adalah rendahnya minat belajar siswa dalam proses pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan model PTK menurut Kemmis dan Taggart yang dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus pembelajaran. Setiap siklus meliputi tahap perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan, dan refleksi. Pengumpulan data minat belajar siswa menggunakan angket minat belajar dan juga observasi langsung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan minat belajar siswa yaitu dari kegiatan prasiklus hasilnya sebesar 61% (kategori cukup), dan meningkat pada siklus I sebesar 70% (kategori baik), dan meningkat lagi pada siklus II menjadi 80% (kategori sangat baik). Peningkatan ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan media pembelajaran berbasis digital mampu meningkatkan minat belajar IPA siswa kelas VII C SMPN 1 Tengah Tani pada semester genap Tahun Pelajaran 2024/2025.
