Abstract

Citayam Fashion Week has become a pop culture that is known by many people. This culture is known as a culture that appears in the midst of marginalized subordinate communities in urban society. Pop culture, which should be a place of expression for young people, eventually disappeared. This happened because there were bourgeois who entered with personal interests. This phenomenon causes the subordinates to be increasingly marginalized. This was increasingly felt when Baim Wong tried to register Haki from that culture. Negative responses then appeared from netizens on Twitter, including Ernest Prakasa and Ridwan Kamil. This ultimately creates a network of interactions that are strong enough to shape public opinion. The purpose of this study was to find out the interaction that was formed about the Citayam Fashion Week phenomenon which focused on the issue of Haki registration carried out by Baim Wong. The interactions that appear on Twitter also form a social-cyber reality triangle. The method in this study uses a qualitative approach. Researchers focused on three Twitter accounts, namely @assumco, @ridwankamil, and @ernestprakasa. The three accounts were chosen because they represent different parties, namely online media, the government, and artists. In addition, this study uses social media network analysis techniques. The choice of this analysis technique is because this research focuses on interactions between users. Besides that, the content on Twitter is used as interaction support data that is analyzed.

Abstract

Instagram is one of the social media that is used to disseminate information widely. The social media has power in its visual text. One account that uses Instagram is @asupankomik_. The account uses Instagram not to upload personal content. However, to reupload works from other comic creators. This study aims to determine the commodification of text by the @asupankomik_ account in order to gain profit. The method used in this research is qualitative. The unit of analysis in this study is content from the @asupankomik_ account. The analysis technique used is semiotic analysis from Charles S. Pierce. The results of this study found that the content chosen by these accounts tends to describe the life of the middle and lower social classes. This can lead to stereotypes about their lives. In addition, the commodification carried out by @asupankomik_ changed the use value of comics as entertainment content into content for economic gain. The benefits are not only in the form of money. But also in the form of investment in the form of the number of followers and posts.

Abstract

The case of covering the Virgin Mary statue using a tarpaulin is one of the viral cases related to religious issues. The case involved an Islamic mass organization in Kulon Progo Yogyakarta and the owner of the Sasana Adhi Rasa prayer house, ST Yacobus. Some of the posts about the case use the hashtag #patungbundamaria. Hashtags, which intended originally to promote sculpture products, suddenly used to increase the reach of spreading issues. This is as an effort to carry out propaganda that has the potential to bring up a discourse of intolerance. This study aims to determine the form of multimodal discourse from the case of the closing of the Bunda Maria statue in Kulon Progo, as well as the propaganda formed. This research method uses a qualitative approach with a constructivist paradigm. The analysis technique is through multimodal discourse analysis. Researchers look at the use of multimodal text to build propaganda messages with the addition of hashtag modes. The results of this study indicate that the emergence of the issue of the Virgin Mary statue by using hashtags begins in the form of gray propaganda. This is because the data to raise this issue is still not valid due to pursuing posting speed. However, from the process of developing issues on social media, the message shift to white propaganda. In addition, netizens on Instagram have a concern in rejecting intolerance. They seek to suppress the emergence of intolerant discourse by providing comments that encourage tolerance between religious communities.

Abstract

The People's Defenders National Movement (GNPR) held the 411 Action to demand President Jokowi step down from his position. Even though the action was in the name of defending the people, it contained the practice of Muslim identity politics. This Muslim identity can be exploited by the media to reap benefits from the audience. The theory in this research is propaganda and commodification. The purpose of this study is to analyze Tribunnews' efforts to make a profit in the context of political economy. This study uses qualitative methods through semiotic analysis of Rolland Barthes. The results of this study see that Muslim identities tend to be displayed in Tribunnews live reports. Setting the point of view of the journalist's camera makes Muslim identity a spectacle material to be used as a commodity material. In addition, the selection of action images also strengthened the propaganda message of the demonstration. There are various signs displayed in the live report, such as white cloth clothes, caps, and other clothes that symbolize Islamic religious identity. In addition to commodification, there are propaganda practices carried out through this media. Propaganda practices are carried out to build a position between the protagonist and antagonist through broadcasts on Youtube.

Abstract

Penggunaan media baru telah menjadi kebutuhan primer di tengah masyarakat. Hal ini terlihat dari ketergantungan penggunaan smartphone dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, khususnya bagi para siswa. Hasil survei yang dilakukan oleh Kemkominfo memperlihatkan indeks Literasi Digital Indonesia mencapai 3,49, dari skala 1 – 5. Indeks tersebut membuat pemerintah perlu mendorong peningkatan literasi digital di masyarakat. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang dilakukan di SMPN 154 Jakarta bagian dari upaya peningkatan kemampuan literasi mereka sejak dini. Bentuk kegiatan yang dilakukan adalah dengan penyuluhan. Peserta juga diberikan form evaluasi kecakapan proteksi perangkat digital untuk mengetahui sejauh mana kesadaran mereka tentang keamanan digital. Dari hasil evaluasi diketahui bahwa tingkat kesadaran keamanan digital relatif rendah. Hasil tersebut membuat kegiatan literasi keamanan digital sangat penting dilakukan kepada remaja. Dalam kegiatan ini, para siswa lebih ditekankan pada aspek keamanan digital, seperti pembuatan password hingga identitas diri untuk terhindar dari kejahatan digital.

Abstract

Flexing behavior or flaunting wealth on social media has become a common phenomenon that can have a negative impact. Driven by the ease of sharing on social media, people tend to compete to flaunt their possessions in order to gain recognition and praise from others. Therefore, this study wants to find out more about how this flexing phenomenon is understood through the subjects studied. This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. The result of this study is that flexing behavior has a negative impact on the mental health of the individuals involved, due to the lack of validation and acceptance in the social environment. Even though there are views that take advantage of flexing in marketing, in Islamic economics this culture is still considered excessive and contrary to Islamic rules. Therefore, social media users need to understand the prohibition and build an identity without a flexing strategy.

Abstract

Pemilihan Umum (Pemilu) Presiden dan Wakil Presiden Republik Indonesia akan dilakukan pada tahun 2024. Menjelang pesta demokrasi tersebut, saat ini telah banyak wacana yang disebarkan oleh berbagai pihak melalui media. Wacana tersebut disebarkan melalui media massa maupun media baru yang terhubung melalui internet. Banyak konten yang mengandung wacana politik, di mana konten-konten yang beredar dapat mempengaruhi khalayak terhadap satu pandangan tertentu. Baik konten yang disebarkan melalui media sosial maupun pemberitaan di media online. Agar mahasiswa sebagai generasi muda dan pemilih pemula dalam Pemilu nantinya, penting bagi mereka memiliki bekal dalam memahami wacana yang beredar dalam berbagai bentuk teks. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini berfokus pada pelatihan penggunaan aplikasi DNA Analyzer untuk memahami wacana yang dibangun melalui pesan yang ada di media. Adapun mitra dalam kegiatan ini adalah mahasiswa yang terhimpun dalam organisasi Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam (HMI) yang berada di Tangerang Selatan. Pemilihan mitra tersebut karena organisasi HMI adalah organisasi yang aktif dalam mengikuti perkembangan politik, sehingga bekal pengetahuan dalam penggunaan teknologi untuk memahami penyebaran wacana politik menjadi satu hal yang penting untuk dimiliki. Melalui kegiatan ini diharapkan para mahasiswa tersebut semakin mudah dalam memahami dan menganalisis wacana yang berkembang di sekitar mereka. Dengan demikian mereka dapat lebih berhati-hati dan bijak dalam memahami informasi yang dikonsumsinya, sehingga tidak mudah terpengaruh dengan wacana yang berpotensi menggiring mereka dalam pandangan yang negatif.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the importance of the role of government and society in collaborating, especially in improving society's capabilities in the agricultural sector. In this case, development communication has an important role, especially in the form of participatory development communication and community empowerment. However, technological aspects cannot be separated from development communication. Electronic agriculture (e-Agriculture) has become something that farmers need to do to improve the quality of their agriculture. Since the penetration of information and communication technology, the use of this technology has become increasingly massive, especially in searching for information. This encourages the active role of government and society in providing facilities to support the development of human resources for farmers. In this case, digital literacy skills are very important for farmers to have, starting from searching for information, managing information resources, forming digital collaborations, to efforts to increase digital participation. These skills need to be built wisely so that the use of technology in the agricultural realm can be carried out well.

Abstract

Background: Before the digital era, television was spotlighted for people who enjoyed audio-visual shows. However, in the digital era, television viewers in Indonesia have decreased. The ease of access to infrastructure, the Internet, and mobile technology devices makes viewers, especially Generation Z (Gen-Z), prefer shows that can be enjoyed flexibly anytime and anywhere. Purpose: This paper discusses the trend of television viewers for Gen-Z amid the “onslaught” of streaming platforms. Methods: This study uses a survey method on Gen-Z, interpreted descriptively and qualitatively. Results: Based on the data obtained, this research illustrates that Gen-Z viewers can be said to be roamers or viewers who enjoy broadcast shows that move between streaming platforms. The study results show that the digital era has changed Gen-Z viewers’ behavior according to their technological devices and subscription streaming platforms. Conclusion: This research indirectly shows that the digital era and the presence of streaming platforms have made viewers increasingly fragmented, so television is not famous for Gen-Z to enjoy audio-visual shows, especially entertainment. Implications: The theoretical implication is that this roaming behavior may be a typical characteristic of Gen-Z. Future research could explore whether this behavior excludes Gen-Z or represents a broader trend among the emerging generation.

Abstract

This study examines the topic of environmental sustainability, which is currently emphasized by governments and organizations. How do organizations, in particular, utilize the term "green" to designate their products and services? A green label plays a crucial role in establishing a favorable reputation for an organization, allowing it to be identified as a promoter of environmental sustainability. This study explores the utilization of the green concept on Twitter deeper. Utilizing the Netlytic program, tweets containing the terms "green" or "environmental" are submitted to a content analysis. This study shows, using collected data, that Twitter is utilized as a "technology weapon" to promote the organization's image. By accommodating digital traces by users on Twitter, researchers see a "digital space" formed to be utilized as a space for organizations to produce content based on environmental communication. This information has consequences for the green labeling of an organization and enables the enhancement of a good image that adds value to the organization's reputation to establish itself as a pro-environmental organization. Important findings from this study suggest that Twitter could be utilized by organizations to improve their status on the map as a green organization.
