Abstract

This study aims at analysing the story's portrayal of corruption. This study is a qualitative research, and this study employed an objective approach of M.H Abrams in analysing the data of corruption as seen in "The Man Who Corrupted Hadleyburg". As the results, there are four types of corruption such as, Moral corruption is exemplified through the characters' susceptibility to greed and the erosion of their moral values when faced with the temptation of wealth. Ethics corruption is evident in the hypocrisy of Hadleyburg's residents, who, despite their outwardly virtuous appearances, succumb to deceitful practices when their integrity is challenged. Justice corruption is depicted in the manipulation of the town's justice system, emphasizing the ease with which corruption can infiltrate seemingly infallible institutions. Social corruption is explored through the ripple effect of dishonesty, showcasing how a single act of corruption can contaminate the entire social fabric of a community. In light of these findings, a fruitful avenue for further research on the themes of moral corruption, ethics corruption, justice corruption, and social corruption in "The Man Who Corrupted Hadleyburg" could involve a comparative analysis with contemporary societal dynamics. Investigating how the depicted corrosive influences manifest in modern settings, exploring real-world instances of moral and ethical lapses, compromised justice systems, and social decay would provide insights into the enduring relevance of Mark Twain's narrative

Abstract

This study explores students' perceptions of Instagram as a medium for English language learning, focusing on its role in enhancing engagement, creativity, and language skills. Conducted with English Education students from Universitas Negeri Manado, the research utilizes a quantitative approach and a closed-ended questionnaire, collecting data from 45 participants who actively use Instagram. The findings indicate that students perceive Instagram positively, noting its visually engaging and interactive platform as conducive to learning. Key benefits highlighted include increased engagement, enjoyment, and motivation, with Instagram’s multimedia and social features creating a dynamic environment where students feel more connected to peers and content. Additionally, Instagram is seen as a valuable tool for vocabulary acquisition and exposure to authentic English language use, particularly through real-world examples provided by native speakers and educational accounts. However, some limitations were identified, such as distractions inherent to the platform and a perceived lack of support for developing learning independence. Overall, the study suggests that Instagram holds significant potential as a supplementary educational tool, which, when thoughtfully integrated, can complement traditional methods and foster a more engaging and socially connected learning experience.

Abstract

The president is the icon of the number one person in a country, and the position of president is the highest position that allows him to always communicate with the public, namely making public speeches. The understanding of the listeners or the public towards the speech delivered by the president allows misunderstandings to arise in interpreting the meaning it contains, both implied and expressed. Therefore, it is very necessary to have a critical discourse analysis of what the president conveys in general. For this reason, the purpose of this research is to analyze the macro structure, superstructure, and micro structure contained in the text of the president's speech, as well as to reveal the implied intent of the president who put forward a statement in relation to action, context, history, power, and ideology. In addition, because the essence of the research is to describe in detail, the method used is qualitative with the principle of critical discourse analysis from Van Djik. Furthermore, the speech delivered by President Joko Widodo, which was delivered online on the metrotvnews youtube channel on May 19, 2022, was used as the object of this research. By applying the techniques of documentation, observation, systematic recording, literature study and listening to the data and research objects, the results show that the researcher found three dimensions of critical discourse analysis in speech texts, namely macro structure, supra structure, and micro structure. The characteristics of critical discourse analysis found in news texts are action, context, history, power, and ideology. In addition, five implied intentions were also found in the video that was shown online

Abstract

Abstract : The purpose of this study is to explore students’ perception toward AI. The research method used in this study was qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The theoretical framework is utilized as a guide to ensure that the research focus aligns with the facts in the field. a Likert scale with four options ranging from Strongly Agree (SA), Agree (A), Disagree (D), and Strongly Disagree (SD). The data collection technique is closely related to the instruments that will be determined. Data collection is, of course, also related to the issues and research objectives, the Result show that the data analysis reveals a nuanced landscape of attitudes and concerns. While many students express enthusiasm about the potential benefits of AI-driven teaching methods, such as personalized learning experiences and improved access to educational resources, there is also a significant level of apprehension regarding the implications for traditional teaching methods and human interaction. The findings suggest that students value the role of human teachers as mentors, motivators, and facilitators of meaningful learning experiences, raising questions about the potential for AI to replace or diminish the quality of teacher-student.

Language is a system of express and report what happens on the nervous system, Pengabean (1981:5). Providing two language understanding. this research the researcher used questionnaire to gather perceptions from students about the use of film .The results elicit a favorable response from the students, with over half of them expressing agreement with each given assertion. However, inside each statement, there are certain phrases that serve as evaluations for teachers, including the choice of films, which should be a priority for teachers in schools. An appropriate film selection will facilitate the students' comprehension of vocabulary, pronunciation, and structural elements within the movie. Firstly, students often view watching films as an enjoyable and engaging activity. Unlike traditional pronunciation drills, which can feel monotonous and repetitive, films provide an immersive experience that captivates students' attention. When students are engaged and interested, they are more likely to pay attention to the pronunciation of words and phrases spoken by native speakers in the film. This increased exposure to authentic language usage can help students develop a more natural and accurate pronunciation

Abstract

This study investigates the importance of English language learning in Indonesia, particularly focusing on reading comprehension among students at Kakaskasen Christian Junior High School. As English has become a global lingua franca, mastering it is essential for students to enhance their communication skills and improve their employability in an increasingly interconnected world. However, many students struggle with reading comprehension, as evidenced by assessments showing that only 7 out of 25 students met the minimum required score. The challenges identified include limited vocabulary, lack of engagement with reading materials, and ineffective teaching methods. To address these issues, the research advocates for the implementation of cooperative learning strategies, specifically the Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) model. This approach encourages collaboration among students and fosters an interactive learning environment that can enhance their reading skills. The findings suggest that employing cooperative learning techniques can significantly boost student motivation and performance in reading comprehension, ultimately preparing them for future academic and career opportunities while promoting a deeper understanding of cultural diversity through language learning.
