Abstract

Testing of soybean genotypes were conducted at six locations of tidal swampland; in dry season of 1999/2000. Eight genotypes and two checks varieties i.e. Wilis and Slamet were evaluated for their yield potential. The experiment was using Randomized Completely Block Design with four replications. The result showed that yield of two genotypes, MSC 9/12-D-4 and MSC 9243-D-3, were higher and relatively stable compared to Wilis and Slamet.   Key words Soybean, Tidal swampland

Abstract

Critical thinking and problem-solving are key 21st-century competencies that determine students’ academic success and life readiness. Although numerous studies have been conducted, most have focused on dispositional aspects and learning strategies, whereas the dimensions of self-confidence and systematic thinking have remained relatively underexplored. This study addresses this gap by examining differences in critical thinking and problem-solving skills based on literacy, gender, socioeconomic status (SES), and maternal educational background. Using a cross-sectional survey design, data were collected from 1,797 junior secondary students in Makassar, Indonesia. Statistical analyses using t-tests and one-way ANOVA were employed to examine mean differences across groups. Results revealed that students with higher reading–writing literacy demonstrated greater self-confidence and more systematic thinking. Female students outperformed males in reflective aspects of critical thinking and problem-solving, whereas SES differences appeared only in the essential systematicity of thinking. No significant differences were found based on maternal education. These findings highlight literacy as the strongest differentiating factor in students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In practice, the study underscores the importance of interdisciplinary, literacy-based instruction to strengthen students’ higher-order thinking skills. Future research should employ longitudinal and mixed-method approaches to explore the mediating role of the cultural environment in shaping young learners’ critical cognition in developing countries.

Abstract

Innovation is a key driver of national competitiveness, and its advancement increasingly relies on the strength of governance quality. However, empirical evidence linking governance performance to national innovation outcomes in the Indonesian literature remains limited. This study addresses this gap by assessing how the Worldwide Governance Indicators (WGI), used as a proxy for governance quality, affect Indonesia’s innovation capability as measured by the Global Innovation Index (GII). The analysis also incorporates additional factors that commonly influence innovation capabilities, including economic growth, foreign direct investment, and the labor force. By adopting a decomposition model to evaluate the individual contributions of each WGI dimension, and employing Gaussian Identity-link GLMs and robust least squares methods, the results show that governance quality overall has a positive and significant effect on Indonesia’s GII. When each component of the WGI is assessed individually, most dimensions display positive effects, with voice and accountability, political stability, and rule of law showing notably significant impacts. These findings imply that strengthening governance structures, particularly in transparency, stability, and legal certainty, is essential for advancing Indonesia’s innovation capability.

Abstract

This study aims to examine and reconstruct Indonesia’s product liability regulations from a Tort Law Perspective in order to strengthen effective consumer protection in contemporary commerce. The research is grounded in the problem that existing regulatory frameworks, particularly those contained in the Civil Code and Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection, remain general in character and predominantly fault-oriented, thereby limiting consumers’ ability to obtain compensation for losses caused by defective products. Such a framework is increasingly inadequate in responding to complex distribution chains, digital transactions, and modern market risks. This study employs a normative juridical method using statutory and conceptual approaches. The statutory approach analyzes relevant legislative provisions through systematic and teleological interpretation, while the conceptual approach examines core tort doctrines such as strict liability, vicarious liability, and duty of care within comparative legal discourse. The novelty of this research lies in its systematic reconstruction model that integrates modern tort principles into Indonesia’s product liability regime, moving beyond a purely fault-based paradigm toward a risk-allocation and consumer-oriented framework. The findings demonstrate that incorporating strict liability standards, expanding accountability through vicarious liability, and reinforcing duty of care obligations would create a more balanced, preventive, and justice-oriented liability system. Such reform is essential to enhance legal certainty, improve access to remedies for consumers, and harmonize national regulations with global developments in tort law.
