Abstract

The potential of the coffee industry in Probolinggo City, especially in the Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises food and beverage sector, including coffee shops, shows promising growth. For example, the coffee shops in the Tisnonegaran Village have become a significant tourist destination contributing to the local economy. However, coffee industry stakeholders face several challenges. The availability of high-quality coffee beans is a major concern as they often need to be sourced from outside the city, leading to stock instability and price fluctuations due to high delivery costs. To address these challenges, artisan coffee roasting technology training plays a crucial role. This training provides a deep understanding of the coffee bean roasting process, enabling coffee business owners to produce high-quality beans with unique flavor profiles. Knowledge about coffee bean selection, temperature control, and roasting times equips participants with the ability to optimize their coffee products. Furthermore, a plan for the development of artisan nano coffee roaster machine technology is also proposed to enhance the quality of mature coffee beans. Through collaboration with students, this technology's design is expected to bring innovation and a deeper understanding of effective roasting equipment and techniques. By combining training, technological development, and collaboration among coffee industry stakeholders, students, and the government, Probolinggo City has the potential to become a high-quality and competitive hub for the coffee industry in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study analyzes the feasibility of industrial-scale pyrolysis of polyethylene (PE) and polystyrene (PS) plastic waste with a feedstock capacity of 200 kg per day. PE and PS plastics are pyrolyzed at temperatures of 400°C, 450°C, and 500°C until the feedstock is fully decomposed, indicated by the cessation of smoke emission from the reactor. The optimal conditions obtained are then used as a reference for energy calculations in a 200 kg industrial-scale process. The pyrolysis duration varies depending on the type of plastic and operating temperature, with the longest time recorded for PE pyrolysis at 450°C for 98 minutes, while the shortest time was observed for PS pyrolysis at 400°C for 31 minutes. The resulting heating rate indicates that higher temperatures lead to lower heating rates for both PE and PS plastics. The results indicate that increasing the temperature enhances the oil yield (v/wo) up to a certain limit before it begins to decline. The pyrolysis oil yield from PS plastic is higher than that from PE, as styrene monomers naturally exist in a liquid phase. The oil yield from PS remains relatively constant despite temperature increases, whereas the yield from PE follows an increasing trend before declining at the highest temperature. The decrease in PS pyrolysis oil density at higher temperatures also suggests differences in physical characteristics compared to PE. The energy consumption analysis indicates that PS plastic pyrolysis requires more energy than PE, with an average energy consumption of 75.14–77.57 kJ/g for PS and 18.7–33.94 kJ/g for PE. However, the oil yield from PS reaches approximately 79–80% of its initial weight, which is higher than that of PE pyrolysis oil. From an economic perspective, converting PE and PS plastic waste into fuel is not entirely feasible, as the energy produced is insufficient to sustain the pyrolysis process itself. The revenue from selling PE pyrolysis oil amounts to Rp 14,729,000 per month, while PS pyrolysis oil generates Rp 30,927,000 per month. Nevertheless, the social benefits of reducing plastic waste provide an added value that cannot be overlooked.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact of RLC loading on the power stability and power quality in Wind Power Plant (PLTB) systems. The RLC is applied to stabilize the power generated by the PLTB system, which tends to fluctuate due to wind speed variability. The testing was conducted by measuring the output power of the PLTB system loaded with various RLC configurations. The results show that RLC loading can enhance the apparent power stability and efficiency of the PLTB system. The resistive load (R) yielded the best performance, improving the power factor to 0.95 and maintaining relatively stable output voltage. Meanwhile, the LC loads exhibited lower efficiency with a reduced power factor, but still played a role in balancing reactive power. The reduction in reactive power for inductive and capacitive loads indicates that RLC loading can help reduce power waste and improve power quality. This research makes a significant contribution to the development of more efficient and stable PLTB systems and more reliable renewable energy-based power plants, particularly in managing power stability in the face of fluctuations caused by wind variability.

Abstract

Abstract

Dependence on fossil fuels causes significant environmental damage and increases costs and scarcity in the future. To overcome this problem, a transition to renewable energy is needed, one of which is biodiesel which can be obtained from used cooking oil. This study aims to convert used cooking oil that cannot be reused into biodiesel products. Biodiesel synthesis can be carried out by the transesterification process, using NaOH catalyst with concentration variations of 0.5%, 0.75%, 1%, 1.25%, and 1.5% of the total mass of oil. The test parameters are calorific value, density, viscosity and flash point as well as yield on used cooking oil biodiesel products. The test results show that the use of a catalyst concentration of 1% produces more optimal density, viscosity, and calorific value and flash point. Each value is 0.859 g / cm³, 2.34 cSt, 10,356 cal / g, and 139°C. However, the use of a catalyst concentration of 0.5% shows that the biodiesel product is less than optimal. This can be shown by the highest density, viscosity and flash point values of the catalyst concentration variations used. Each value is 0.88 g/cm3, 3.16 cSt and 178°C, while the calorific value is also low with a value of 9,689 cal/g. However, when viewed from the yield, the catalyst concentration of 0.5% produces the highest value of all catalyst concentration variations used with a value of 88%.

Abstract

This community service program aims to improve the quality of honey products produced by small-scale producers in Probolinggo by implementing the Dehydrated Honey Machine. The main problem faced by partners is the high moisture content in honey (28%), which exceeds the Indonesian National Standard (SNI 8664:2018) limit of less than 22%. High moisture content reduces shelf life, product quality, and market acceptance, especially in pharmacies and online stores. The program was conducted through participatory methods consisting of socialization, training, technology implementation, and monitoring-evaluation. The Dehydrated Honey Machine with a capacity of 15 liters per 3 hours was installed at the partner’s production site, followed by training on operation and maintenance. After implementation, the moisture content of honey decreased to 17–18%, in line with the standard requirements. This improvement has extended the shelf life of honey, increased the selling price, and reduced product rejection. The program demonstrates that appropriate technology transfer effectively enhances production quality and competitiveness of local honey producers.
