Abstract

Bireuen District has significant potential in fisheries resources. However, the high potential of marine fisheries comes with various threats, such as overfishing and destructive fishing, which can disrupt the sustainability of marine ecosystems. The use of environmentally friendly fishing gear is a crucial aspect of sustainability. This study aims to identify environmentally friendly fishing technologies in Bireuen District. Data collection was conducted using a descriptive method with survey techniques, observations, and structured interviews with respondents. The sampling method employed purposive sampling, selecting respondents based on specific criteria or considerations relevant to the research objectives, with a total of 50 respondents directly involved in capture fisheries in Bireuen District. Data analysis was carried out using a scoring analysis based on nine criteria for environmentally friendly fishing gear, following the guidelines of the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries. The results of the study indicate that fishing gears with very environmentally friendly technology include purse seines, trolling lines, set longlines, pots, and gillnets. Meanwhile, beach seines and trammel nets are categorized as less environmentally friendly. Keywords:Fishing gearEnvironmentally FriendlyCapture fisheriesCCRFBireuen District

Abstract

Abstract

Lam Ujong Village is one of the villages in the Baitussalam sub-district of Aceh Besar Regency. The majority of people in this coastal area work as salt farmers to support their livelihoods. Despite the abundant salt production, it has not significantly increased the community's income, as salt processing is limited to selling salt directly to consumers. Processing sea salt into creative, economically valuable products has not been pursued due to a lack of innovation and skills. Sea salt is rich in minerals with great potential to be utilized as a key raw material in producing spa salts and liquid soap. This community service activity will be conducted in Lam Ujong Village in 2024, in partnership with a group of salt farmers. The project will be carried out in three stages: pre-activities (socialization and initial preparation for educational activities), main activities (training and technical guidance on producing environmentally friendly spa salt and liquid soap), and post-activities (evaluation of results). The program results demonstrated a significant improvement in the technical skills and understanding of salt farmers regarding the production process of spa salts and liquid soap. This success highlights that well-targeted technology transfer can be a key driver in the economic transformation of local communities while promoting more sustainable natural resource management. Abstract

Climate change can create a considerable impact in Indonesia. Aceh province is a province located on the island of Sumatra and it are located around in the Indian Ocean. Aceh Province has a considerable impact of climate change caused by the Sea Surface Temperature Anomalies (SSTA). The SSTA in the Indian Ocean is a parameter that can affect climatic conditions in Indonesia. The SSTA changes can cause an extreme climate change on earth. There are several climate elements affected by SSTA including air temperature, rainfall, wind speed, solar radiation, and relative humidity. One of the methods used to look at SSTA's relationship with some climate elements is the Cross-Correlation method. The climate data used in this study was a daily time series data. The purpose of this study is to find out SSTA's relationship with some climate elements. The results showed that using the Pearson correlation, the highest relationship was SSTA and the air temperature was 0.45. Meanwhile, the lowest relationship was SSTA and the rainfall was -0.05. Similarly, the Cross-Correlation method where the highest relationship was SSTA and the air temperature was 0.469, and the lowest close relationship was SSTA and the rainfall was -0.075.
