Abstract

Deductive reasoning is at the core of rationality and is one of the main components that describe the level of intelligence. However, instruments for measuring deductive reasoning in Indonesia have limited accessibility, with unpublished psychometric properties. This study aims to develop an instrument for measuring deductive reasoning ability, namely the General Sequential Reasoning-Verbal (GSR-V), and examine its psychometric properties (reliability, validity, factor structure). A cross-sectional study was conducted with 163 students in grades 10, 11, and 12 from several senior high schools in Indonesia using convenience sampling. The instrument consists of two types of tasks: syllogism and conditional reasoning. Data were collected online and analyzed based on item difficulty, item discrimination, reliability, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and convergent validity. The results revealed that the 20-item GSR-V is reliable and exhibits a two-factor structure (syllogism and conditional reasoning) with adequate model fit. Additionally, convergent validity analysis indicated that the GSR-V meets composite reliability and factor loading standards, although the average variance extracted (AVE) values were insufficient. The GSR-V has proven to be quite reliable and valid in measuring verbal deductive reasoning in the Indonesian context, thus providing a relevant tool for various deductive reasoning assessment purposes in Indonesian samples.

Abstract

Over the past four decades, the application of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) has expanded significantly, attracting considerable interest from researchers worldwide. Despite the proliferation of research across various disciplines, comprehensive reviews that map global trends in NLP research remain limited. Consequently, this study aims to evaluate the evolution and contributions of NLP research over time, and to identify the key topics, leading researchers, prominent institutions, and influential countries involved in its development. This study employs a literature review methodology using the Scopus database as of September 27, 2024, with the keywords “neuro-linguistic” and “programming.” Bibliographic data from 280 publications were exported in CSV format, processed using Excel, and analyzed with VOSviewer software to map networks and visualize findings. The results of the study are as follows: (1) NLP research output peaked in 2018, with over 20 documents published that year; (2) the most cited article is titled “Machine Learning Approach to Personality Type Prediction Based on the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator”; (3) the researcher contributing the most to this field is Tosey, with nine publications; (4) the United Kingdom and Europe exhibit a high concentration of NLP research and robust collaboration networks; (5) in the Scopus database, articles constitute the majority of documents, comprising 62.9% of the total publications; (6) NLP research is predominantly concentrated in the social sciences and computer science domains, where NLP techniques are utilized for developing technologies such as chatbots, text analysis, and linguistic data processing. The findings indicate that NLP holds substantial potential for application in psychology and the social sciences. However, its application in the domain of sports remains underexplored. This represents a significant opportunity to implement NLP in sports, particularly for mental training and enhancing athletic performance.

Abstract

The increasing number and proportion of the elderly population in Indonesia, reaching one in 10 Indonesians, has led to various challenges, including economic slowdown, demographic imbalance, limited adoption of healthy lifestyles, and a higher risk of depression. Additionally, older adults must cope with physical, social, and emotional changes associated with aging. This phenomenon is a global concern, as their psychological well-being is strongly influenced by the quality of social support they receive. This study integrates previous findings to provide a comprehensive understanding of the role of social support in enhancing elderly psychological well-being. Using a systematic literature review, the selection process from JSTOR and Scopus databases resulted in 10 relevant articles. The synthesis identified three key themes: (1) the function of social support in psychological well-being, (2) mechanisms for improving psychological well-being, and (3) sources of social support influencing psychological well-being. By integrating insights from multiple sources, this review highlights the impact of social support in mitigating the negative effects of aging and improving elderly well-being. These findings are expected to serve as a foundation for more effective interventions and policies to enhance the psychological well-being of older adults, particularly in addressing the challenges posed by an aging population.

Abstract

The current study aimed to develop and validate the Parasocial Relationships with Religious Figures (PSR-R) scale, a multidimensional instrument designed to assess individuals' parasocial relationships with their idolized religious figures. A total of 301 participants aged 18–29 were recruited using convenience sampling, representing six religious groups in Indonesia. The scale development process involved item generation, expert evaluation, and confirmatory factor analysis to establish the structural validity of the scale. The final 25-item PSR-R scale demonstrated robust model fit (CFI = .908, RMSEA = .062, and SRMR = .607), capturing four dimensions: interest in, knowledge of, identification with, and interaction with. Internal consistency was high (? = .922), with dimension-level reliabilities ranging from .711 to .855 and significant intercorrelations among its four dimensions, supporting its validity as a multidimensional construct. Convergent validity was supported by a significant positive correlation with a measure of celebrity worship (r = .544, p < .001), suggesting that shared psychological processes underlie parasocial relationships across different domains. These findings support the PSR-R scale as a reliable and valid instrument for assessing parasocial relationships in religious contexts. By introducing a validated measurement tool, this study provides a foundation for further exploration of parasocial relationships with religious figures and their psychological implications. The scale offers theoretical and applied value for examining the psychological impact of mediated religious engagement. Future research should assess the cross-cultural generalizability of this approach, its role in identity development, and its potential applications in religious education, counseling, and mental health settings.
