Abstract

Media has a significant role as the source of information for people to prepare for disaster and assist in minimizing disaster risk reduction. Examining how media frame disaster information helps to understand the quantity and quality of the information about the disaster. Earthquakes and Tsunamis in Indonesia are disasters causing massive losses and grieves, and how the media portray and frame the tragedy has influence people's perception and behaviour towards disasters. Since the first significant Earthquake and Tsunami in Aceh 18 years ago, followed by the same disasters in Banten and Palu in 2018, studies have yet to be found analyzing and comparing media coverage of earthquakes and tsunamis within the local media. This study aims to compare how local media frame the information about the Earthquakes and Tsunamis that occurred in Aceh and Palu using the Urs Dahiden framing model to analyze the frame themes in mass media. The findings show more negative coverage of the disasters, focusing more on the numbers of victims, material losses, and the government's incapability to disasters response. Disaster preparedness is framed through the lens of religious perspectives and less on scientific knowledge or how to better respond to future disasters.

Data collection through questionnaire distribution, using the Sexual Experiences Questionnaire (SEQ) scale. Results: Through data analysis with SPSS 25.0, it was found that the Pearson Product Moment correlation value between anonymity and Cyber Sexual Harassment (CSH) was (r) 0.749 > r_table 0.113. Conclusion: The research shows that there is a relationship between anonymity and Twitter users' willingness to commit cyber sexual harassment, with a positive relationship direction. The lower the anonymity, the lower the desire to commit CSH, and vice versa. Abstrak Latar Belakang: Kasus pelecehan seksual siber meningkat terkhusus di masa pandemi Covid-19. Abstract

The term Korean wave refers to the global spread of K-Pop, which has been widely accepted and adopted by societies around the world. The dissemination of BTS K-Pop through social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, music portals, and other constantly updated media channels provides extensive information for BTS fans, known as the Army. Data for this study was collected via questionnaires distributed to 133 respondents, all members of the K-Pop Army community in Banda Aceh City. The findings indicate that the consumption of BTS K-Pop influences self-concept, driven by the significant interest in BTS among fans. The appeal to Army community members is evident in the time spent watching BTS, the frequency of their engagement, and their willingness to forego other activities to watch BTS. Data analysis reveals that BTS K-Pop consumption positively affects both the physical and psychological aspects of self-concept among Army community members in Banda Aceh City, with a significance level of 5% at 1.9799.

Abstract

In an endeavor to assist the Banda Aceh City Government in effective waste management, a group of lecturers and students from Syiah Kuala University (USK) has introduced an innovative waste management solution in the form of a digital-based waste collection and disposal application named e-tikbroh.yak. This application is designed to pick up pre-sorted waste from users, including individuals and communities, and then distribute the segregated waste to collectors and partners who have ordered or purchased it for various productive purposes. The distribution of this application to the community is considered essential as it streamlines the waste management process by promoting waste sorting and implementing the 3 R (Reduce-Reuse-Recycle) waste management concept, thereby fostering a conscious approach to waste management. Furthermore, e-tikbroh.yak creates new employment opportunities within the community, both as application couriers and by generating additional income through the collection of sorted waste. To expand its reach and accessibility, the e-tikbroh.yak application will soon be made available on the Play Store and web browsers for non-Android smartphone users in Banda Aceh City. Following its public introduction, a Users Acceptance Test (UAT) was conducted to ensure the effective and optimal functioning of the application system. This paper aims to elucidate two key aspects: 1) introducing e-tikbroh.yak to the community and partners, and 2) assessing the application's performance through the User Acceptance Test (UAT) procedure. The outcome of the UAT demonstrated that the people of Banda Aceh City found the application's operation to be smooth and user-friendly.

Abstract

Yakesma (Aceh Community Welfare Foundation) in Kajhu Village, Baitussalam District, Aceh Besar, focuses on nurturing management by recruiting foster parents and volunteers to assist groups of abandoned children and, primarily, survivors of sexual violence. Child survivors of sexual violence have experienced deep psychological trauma, which requires continuous psychological assistance. The presence of volunteers is significant in accompanying these survivors so that they can recover from the psychological trauma they have experienced. However, not all volunteers have psychological abilities and practical communication skills. This community service aims to equip Yakesma volunteers with the two abilities needed to help themselves when interacting with survivors of sexual violence to recover from their mental health issuesthe community service through workshop and practicum methods. The results of psychological assistance and effective communication received a positive response from the volunteers, encouraging them to write their stories as self-healing. The outputs of community service are training modules and an anthology book of volunteer stories that can be referenced to assist survivors of sexual violence in other institutions.

Abstract

The environmental STEM (E-STEM) approach helps students to understand problems related to the environment and solutions to overcome the issues. Many studies show how applying the E-STEM approach in education increase students' awareness of protecting the environment and being adaptive and resilient to the impact of climate change. This paper explains the findings of E-STEM learning activities and outcomes in a school setting (grade XI) in Aceh. Qualitative approach with Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with 11 senior high school students taught about the environmental issue using the E-STEM. Students have low environmental awareness of the impact of climate change. Furthermore, students' unwise behavior in using electricity and transportation and lack of waste management indicate a gap in implementing the E-STEM approach within the current National Independent Learning Curriculum. Despite the shortcoming of the learning activities and outcomes, the study highlights the importance of introducing natural connectedness through E-STEM learning at an early age to be adaptive and resilient to the impact of climate change

Abstract

This study examines the critical but often underrecognized roles of women social workers in the context of post-tsunami disaster recovery and resilience-building in Aceh, Indonesia. Drawing on twenty in-depth interviews and a focus group discussion with certified social workers, community volunteers, journalists, academics, and activists, the research explores how women navigate cultural, institutional, and professional barriers during disaster response and recovery. Guided by feminist disaster theory, intersectionality, and transformative social work frameworks, the analysis reveals that women not only provide essential care labor and psychosocial support but also act as agents of changeinitiating community-based projects, advocating for gender-sensitive policies, and building informal support networks. Despite persistent patriarchal norms and limited institutional recognition, women social workers demonstrate remarkable agency, adaptability, and collective resilience. The findings highlight the urgent need for gender-inclusive policies, improved professional pathways, and greater institutional support to empower women as leaders in disaster management. This research contributes to a more nuanced understanding of gender, power, and professional practice in humanitarian contexts, offering insights for both policy and practice in Indonesia and similar settings.
